Mmh... Marauder, Warhammer, Locust, Daishi, Mad Cat, Vulture...

Yes, the Atlas is iconic, but in the top three?

It's one of three mechs that was used as the mascot of the game.  It's considerably more iconic than the Locust, Daishi, or Vulture.  You can decide how it ranks compared to the other three you listed but it's not fourth place.

The Warhammer was on the cover of the BT boxes a very long time, the Marauder is *the* mech of all BT, the Mad Cat is *the* clan mech of all...

There's no place for the Atlas on the podium.

The Atlas head appears on the spine of well, everything now.  I’m not sure if there is a more iconic mech for the franchise.  It is up there with the Whammy, Mad Cat, and Marauder.

It was on the fourth edition box and more books than I can remember.

In terms of most "face of the franchise" iconic, it goes Atlas, then Mad Cat, then Warhammer. The Marauder, while much talked-up in-universe and the progenitor of a whole family of 'Mechs lore-wise, has never gotten nearly the same level of visual exposure as the other three.

Somebody likes his Atlas.  ;)

Okay, okay, I'm not involved enough to search my PDFs to try to find mechs with more cover appearences. You won. This time. But only b/c TPTB have a fancy for the Atlas the last years.

Last few?  Some of those covers are 20+ years old.

The last years?

BF1 is from 1986 and the Star League SB is from 1988.

I didn't wrote *all* covers were relatively recent.

But omitting the more recent ones will diminish this gallery a great deal.

It was just the ones I could think of on top of my head, I'm sure there's more.  Almost certainly more than, say the Locust or the Vulture.

Yeah there's more. At least one novel with an AS7 on the cover too.

I'd say, what one considers iconic depends on when you got into the game, your preferred tech base and the print media one chooses to buy.

Yes, there are. Slightly more than Marauders, but less than Mad Cats.

I've sieved through my PDFs after all.

No. This title goes to the Mad Cat.

No. This title goes to the Mad Cat.

I would say only for people who's entry point was the MechWarrior games. Which is fine.

I'd say as a consumer of both table top and electronic media, the Atlas probably still comes out ahead of the Mad Cat as the iconic BattleTech/Mechwarrior symbol.  But in video games, things skew towards the Timber Wolf pretty hard, especially if you go back to MechWarrior 2 and move forward.  Lots of box cover art and movies featuring Timber Wolves.

*The* *cover* mech of BT is the Mad Cat. The most iconic... for me the Marauder, then Mad Cat, then Warhammer, then maybe the Atlas.

I started with BT before the Clans were a thing, otherwise i'd maybe favor the Mad Cat over the Marauder.

But now I'll try to be more on topic.   :)

The Atlas is THE cover 'Mech of Battletech.
It's worth mentioning that the Atlas (and MadCat) are BT original whereas the Warhammer (and Marauder) aren't... until Project Phoenix.

PDF: $3.99

The march of technology across BattleTech’s eras is relentless—but some BattleMech designs never die. Each installment of this PDF-only series not only includes a brand new BattleMech or OmniMech, but also details Classic ’Mech designs from both the Inner Sphere and the Clans, now fully rebuilt with Dark Age technology (3085 and beyond).

Allowing beloved units redesigned for the BattleTech: Clan Invasion crowd funding campaign to be competitive on “modern” battlefields, this series also includes in-universe development notes, battle histories, notable pilots, and record sheets for each ’Mech. Released as a series of 24 PDF-only documents through the end of 2020 and early 2021, many ’Mechs featured in this series will be collected in print upon its completion.
