Title: Attachment File Size
Post by: The Purist on 31 July 2017, 11:39:36
Good morning,

I have been trying to attach a .png of very basic map but have run afoul of the 900kb file size maximum. I tried using the 'properties' compress file function but that only save a few hundred kb on a 1200kb file. The final result is a quite tight screen shot that loses perspective.

Is there another way to compress files that I am missing?

[Edit: At other forums I have used .png files and these reduce the file size of jpeg, etc. substantially. I was surprised it did not do so this time.

I Realize this is more a 'tech' question that an issue with the forum but,...]

Cheers.

There's a few options:
1. Upload it somewhere else and link to it here (with an anchor tag, not an image link, please)
2. Lower the resolution of the file
3. Fiddle with the settings in whatever image editor you're using to see what you can come up with on the original output

Another note, forums in general cannot shrink the size of a file just by changing the extension. Changing a jpeg from jpeg/jpg to png does not change the fact that it is still a jpeg.

Thanks Gents,...

I'll tinker with saving the file as a .png. My memory of bygone days was that if I did a 'screen shot' and saved it as a .png, tinkered with the resolution, I usualyy ended up with a file of less than 200kb.

Cheers.
