RISC Hyper Laser question
« on: 26 May 2016, 13:17:05 »
Am I understanding IO correctly in that a RISC Hyper Laser is simply a normal laser (Small, Medium, Large) with the added "benefit" that it explodes in exchange for nothing? This seems a bit odd to me.
But as a matter of fact I was quite busy getting potty-trained at the time and had no time for interstellar politics.- ykonoclast

You are not.  Pages 220 and 221 show the characteristics of a RISC Hyper Laser.  Suffice to say, they are nothing like a normal laser.

Thank you. I apparently scanned past those entries on the table a dozen or more times.

IIRC, the hyperlaser is basically taking a regular laser, giving it "MOAR POWER" to the point it becomes a "laser-of-doom"... after which it blows up.

Actually, the Hyper Laser is a further development of the Improved Heavy Laser technology. Per IO page 93. Better plasma lasing and whatever, and somehow even more explosive than iHLs.

(Too bad we can't add a Pulse Module to a Hyper Laser. The Pulse Modules work only with IS standard or IS ER lasers.)

That would be only one step away from just installing a Booby Trap on your mech, so it's redundant tech.  O0

whoa I didn't notice this either... looks like 2 Clan ER lasers combined with explodey consequences. might be worth the risc (boo! hiss!) to me, for flavour and for challenging the dice gods.

It's literally exactly two CERLLs stuck together, but bulkier and might explode. I really like it anyway, just purely out of the "FIRIN MAH LAZOR!!1!"-ness of it; it just is too willing to explode in my face (the dice hate me enough already, the last thing I need to do is encourage them).

Umm, what? Why not, the Hyper Laser IS and IS Laser.

But it is not a standard or ER laser.

Why isn't it a standard laser? It lacks ER or Pulse in it's name.

Because it is not a Small, Medium, or Large laser.
