About the Super Griffin
« on: 28 March 2014, 10:04:26 »
Will the Super Griffin ever get into full time production for the regular customers? Or even done as like a limited time only mech?

I'd like to see miniature of the Super Griffin, but I don't expect it is going to happen this year.

Considering the fact that both the standing and jumping sculpts are CE minis, I'd guess "No".   :-\  The best you can Hope for (aside from getting them at a Con), is seeing them on IWM's site for a few months around the end of the year.  If you can't make it to a Con, make Friends with someone that can!  O0

I have it on Good authority that Someone will be posting a thread on BTU around the end of June, offering to get stuff at Gen Con '14.   ;)

What kind of exclusives do CGL or IWN do for cons?

How's this?  8)

Atlas (2012 LE Jumping Variant)
Catapult CPLT-K4 (LE Con Variant)
DFA Jade Hawk (2009 CE Sculpt)
Gestalt D2X-G (2013 CE Sculpt)
Grand Titan T-IT-N14R "Vengeance" (2013 CE Sculpt)
Hatchetman HCT-6D (2009 LE Con Variant)
Revenant UBM-1A (2013 CE Sculpt)
Rifleman RFL-7X (R) (2011 LE Con Variant)
Rifleman IIC (R) (2011 LE Con Variant)
Super-Griffin GRF-2N-X (Jumping) (R) (2013 CE Sculpt)
Super-Griffin GRF-2N-X (Standing) (R) (2013 CE Sculpt)
Warhammer 'The Lich' WHMLTD-X7 Variant (R) (2010 LE Con Variant)

CE = Con Exclusive
LE = Limited Edition

They had the XTRO Lance Pack as a 2012 CE Special, that had one each of No-Dachi 3X, Rifleman RFL-X3, Victor VTR-9K2, and Wraith TR2-X. I guess they were cheaper by the Lance than individually, but I can't remember.   :-\

They've also had the Primitive Shadow Hawk and the Bounty Hunter's 28mm Power Armor for sale individually there as well.

They had a Primitives Lance Pack at Gen Con 2013, which had the four Primitive minis in one box for less than if you bought them individually. It was $45.00, had one each of the each of Banshee BNC-1E (20-5079), & Wasp WSP-1 (20-5078) {Both from XTRO Primitives II}, and Longbow LGB-0C (20-5077), & Thunderbolt TDR-1C (20-5076) {Both from XTRO Primitives III}, and premiered at GC, though I don't know if it was at any Cons after that.

CGL usually has a few BT and Shadowrun t-shirts at the Cons also, and at GC '13 they had some shot glasses and pint glasses with logos for each game, plus a wristband flash drive for each system, with Free PDFs loaded on each. They had some nice clipboards for SR also, but none for BT.   :(   Finally, IWM will also have ALL the Archived minis available at the Cons, WITHOUT the Archive Fee.   O0  They'll have all the Online Exclusive minis for sale there also, like the BT & FT series minis.  It is BT Nirvana!   [drool]  Or Nerdvana, whichever.   :D  Some things debut at Origins, but some things aren't ready until just before Gen Con, so they debut there.  Then again, some things debut AND Sell Out at Origins, so they never make it to GC, which is the only Con I go to.   :'(

The Lich wasn't a con exclusive. It was just a limited edition. It has been available on the website. Since about a month after the con in which it came out. (I've gotten two through the store over the years)

Thanks guys the only reason why I am even asking is that a guy who I play battletech with REALLY wants my copy that I got off an auction site for a very good and fair price. And I actually just love the look of this mech and figure if I can get another one I could do a trade for some of his mechs that he has.

Hence the reason I've got it and a few others listed as "LE" for "Limited Edition", rather than "CE" for "Con Exclusive".  Sure, it's available NOW, but how long will it be before it's removed?   ???

Not anytime soon, it was released a few years ago. Just a web only offering that is also at the shows.

I'd like to say that Psycho's Super Griffin from Camospecs site is really beautiful - nice mini and great paintjob.

That would be awesome Speck. I know I would like to get a couple more of these mini's and sadly where IWM goes for cons I can't really get too.

Will it be up permanently or only a limited time offer?
I know a few people who are jealous of mine and permanently would increase the chance for Ulisses to get it in there shop in Germany. :) (Which pretty much means I will pester them until it is available ^^)

I have a slightly off topic question......... what unit does he Super G belong to? Who can use the thing, the MUL provides no insight.

It's the prototype created for the Project Phoenix. It was not issued to a line AFFS unit.

Thank you, that was helpful. So how do you suppose this thing should be painted? Since it's a one of a kind model, I think I should paint it accordant to canon.

In this case, I don't think there is any canon.

So as with 99.99%* of all Battletech minis, paiont it however you want.

I would say that there are two possible options:
  • Use grey or perhaps green primer. After all, the Super Griffin was just a prototype ...  Maybe FedSuns insignia.
  • Use livery of a local AFFS unit. In this case, it was the Dahar DMM which uses deep red colour on its 'Mechs.
Things like that sometimes happen, as it won't raise suspicion, should somebody see the Super Griffin outside its hangar. Just one local militia 'Mech, nothing more ...

Will that be a web-only special type deal, or something distributors can order?
