Title: Anyone play Full-Thrust?
Post by: Prospernia on 04 March 2014, 16:07:06
Has anyone played Full-Thrust: it's a spaceship battle game roughly based off of Star-Trek: I've downloaded the rules (they're free), but I've only played FT in Chameleon-Electric's Babylon 5 game (which was awesome).

I have the rulebook and more thrust, but have hardly ever played it.  I did get a few games of the B5 mod in at the time, and I really enjoyed it too.

Yes but not regularly, there are a bunch of mod.s  that work well.  But most fun is the ease of modifications.    There is a Traveler variant that makes heavy use of spinal mounts >:D.  It great but not enough people play.

Never played, though I have flipped through the rules quite a bit. More of a Starmada person, myself.

On the other hand, I love the look of a lot of their ships. I will own a NSL fleet someday...even if I have to assemble it one ship every couple of years.

When I can.  As others have mentioned, players are fairly thin on the ground, especially in the wilds of Maine.

I've played a fair bit and have two 1/2 fleets in various stages of painting
Get onto FB, there's a group a dozen who play both originals and mods all over the place
There might be someone near you that plays, worth a look!

It’s been a long while now since I last played, but my old wargaming group used to play it on an off. But only because everyone used to get angry over StarFire. It is a fun little game however, quick too, in my experience.

not had a chance to play much, but i've been working on fleets.
though i've been doing a fair bit of "world building" at the same time.. i enjoy that sort of thing even if it never shows up in a game.

I find Starmada (Admiralty edition) to be a better game, myself. But I've played a lot of Full Thrust.

not actually the latest set of official rules. just the latest set of fan-rules.

the latest set of official rules by the company is Full Thrust Remixed (http://members.ozemail.com.au/~laranzu/fullthrust/rules/ftremixed-us.pdf).
it compiles all the rules from Full thrust, more thrust, and fleetbook 1. the alien systems from fleetbook 2 aren't included but they are easy to add. i personally include the playtest rules and systems from here: http://fullthrust.star-ranger.com/

these are items GZG picked from fan suggestions for the (long delayed) third edition.

Continuum, cross dimensions, and the other fan-versions started with the same base sets of rules (compiling the old main book and supplements) but they have added scads of new weapons, rules, systems, and ship types to the point it makes for a complicated game that almost has more in common with starfleet battles than full thrust. (not surprising, given many of the new ship types and systems in the fan-rulesets seem drawn from SFB and the other trek derived game systems, the point of using any of the same names and terminology)

i recently was able to purchase the mini's i need to complete my tholian and klingon fleets, so hopefully i'll be able to host some games beforel ong.
