Quick question about record sheet pdf's.
« on: 17 July 2011, 09:13:48 »
Do they contain record sheets for aerospace units? If they do then which ones have'em.

Thanks

Not many of them do.  RS: Operation Klondike, RS:3039U and RS:3085U The Cutting Edge contain the units from the appropriate books.

What he said. The Unabridged series of RS books is often abridged, removing aero units, support units, and sometimes even battle armor to speed up the process and get the tanks and 'mechs available to players. I don't recall any specific official statement, but I believe their desire is to go back and add the removed stuff at some point, probably once the RS-making process becomes a bit more streamlined. If you buy a RS product right now, you'll probably be allowed to re-download the truly unabridged one for free when it becomes available.

(Note: All this is guesstimation from what I've seen on these forums and heard in Battlechats. Don't count on me to have hard data, especially since my mind at best resembles not a steel trap, but a steel colander.)

More like we get the capability to generate those sheets.

On the upside, players can make their own printable RSes pretty easily using even the most basic image editing program. Here's one I did using MS paint and a document converter, abridged to avoid showing the complete stats and shrunk/de-PDFed to fit into attachment limits.

I don't recall any but they've said they're working on it.

Not many of them do.  RS: Operation Klondike, RS:3039U and RS:3085U The Cutting Edge contain the units from the appropriate books.

Cutting Edge is missing the DropShips, WarShip, and WiGEs.  Large Craft are a particular pain in the neck.  I don't know what the story on the WiGEs is although they're tangential to the thread.  Be aware that RS3039U is not available for sale at the moment due to extensive problems in the vehicle section.

RS3050 Upgrades Clan and Star League does have the associated fighters but they're not on current style sheets.  When that gets revised is anyone's guess.

I also make my own record sheets, albeit in my own format and with optional rules in italics, but only for Mechs.  I've never tried to make one for aerospace fighters.

The actual sheet itself would be simpler for fighters.  The main problem with this is that there are fighters we know exist but don't have hard stats on.

Probably would have to use the TRO and construction rules from TO.

I was actually thinking of picking up AerotechII sheets on Ebay.  It sells for around 12$.  I do have aerotech II rules, which I believe is still cannon.  It has stats for all units for the time it was written.  I was asking about sheets cause my hands are starting to shake making writing that small difficult.  Too much LDS when I was younger.

We don't always know the full armament, don't always know the weapons arrangement when we do, frequently don't know heat sink numbers or fuel load, may not know engine type, and always lack information on armor distribution.  That means it turns into a guessing game because you're not using a canon design.  Some people don't have a problem with that but some do.

There are differences between AT2 and TW, although they're not that big.

Aren't there a number of errors in RS:AS2?

I don't know one way or the other about that one.  I wouldn't be surprised given how messy some of the other aerospace numbers have proven to be.

From what I understand there's some problems deep in HMA, and as it was used to make the AeroTech record sheet book, it's meant some of the sheets are in question.

Part of the problem with Record Sheets: AeroTech 2 is there were differing setups in HeavyMetal Aero. For example, my default ship had zero days worth of food and zero spare parts. Reason being it's still cargo, it should be represented by the cargo stat. But somebody else doing data entry would leave the defaults in.

Another issue was poor fact-checking on the designs included in the package in the first place. Rick let the folks doing the testing to include their take on various ships rather than using an approved set of sheets. Some of them were put into the AT2 folder, which was supposed to be the set of designs that were used to generate the physical Record Sheet book. Unfortunately that one sailed through FanPro without being noticed until it was too late, that one's on both parties evenly.
