Super heavy Fixed Wings
« on: 29 March 2018, 19:18:18 »
With the Fixed Wing support craft I was disappointed with the limited size of just 200 tons, considering that many modern aircraft are more than that, For example the Boeing 747-8 is just shy of 450 tons at it's maximum take off loads, though 193 tons of that is fuel (and is 220 tons empty).

So I came up with a expanded construction set to allow for "super large" fixed wing aircraft, to allow for aircraft up to 1,000 tons, proving for very large aircraft and payloads that are not dropships, if for example you want that flying supersonic aircraft carrier... A craft to carry a planetary militia battlemech lance or up to a company of light tanks at the ready.

Requirements is the Techmanual rules for support vehicles
anything not covered Is assumed at this time to follow that as per normal rules (notably for large craft)

Super large Fixed Wing aircraft
Mass: 201 to 1000 tons
Base chassis: .20
Base engine: .020
Min Tech rating: C
Armor 4 + (units mass / 2) round down

Fuel use:
A: 100
B: 60
C: 45
D: 35
E: 30
F: 25

Base Crew 4
-------------------
Here's a few basic sketches to get an idea of what it could do.

Tech D
1,000 ton Armored transport (all are Fusion powered, BAR 10 armor, w/ armored trait, for comparison)
Thrust 3/5
Engine weight: 260t
Structure weight: 300t
Fuel: 20t /571 TP (20,556km)
Armor: 504 /32t (BAR 10)
Tons left: 388t

----------
Tech F
1,000t Armored Transport
Thrust 3/5
Engine weight: 130t
Structure mass: 198t
Fuel: 20t /800 TP (28,800km)
Armor: 504 / 26.5t
Tons left: 625.5t

Tech C
1,000 ton Armored Transport
Thrust 3/5
Engine weight: 390t
Structure mass: 345t
Fuel: 20t /444 TP (15,984km)
Armor: 504 / 28.5t (BAR 7)
Tons left: 216.5t

A quasi 747-8 analog
250 ton 747 analog Tech C ICE
Thrust 2/3
Engine weight: 80t
Structure mass: 57.5t
Fuel: 20t /444 TP (15,984km)
Armor: 5t /125 points (BAR 5)
Tons left: 87.5t

Note: a 747-8 can carry 75ish tons of passengers and cargo with a range up to some 14,000km
420 passengers is about 32 tons in B-tech terms at 75kg per seat.
