Capabilities:
Intended to be the first of the Caliburn subclass of Avalon class cruisers, the FSS Ian Davion replaced the standard Avalon's missile batteries with an array of class 30 naval autocannon, intended to provide punch unaffected by the proliferation of anti-missile systems.

History:
Much as the Prince it was named for, the Ian Davion was an ill-starred ship. Intended to commission in 3063, a bomb attack by a terrorist cell of unknown affilations damaged the broadside mountings and yard slip, adding nearly eight months of repair time. On commissioning, as the Ian Davion made for Galax's nadir point, pro-Katherine Steiner-Davion elements of the crew attempted a mutiny, only put down with heavy loss of life (including the cruiser's commander, killed during fighting on the bridge).
Under the command of Rear-Admiral Stephanie Moon, the Ian Davion joined Victor Steiner-Davion's forces in May of 3064, supporting the Fourteenth FedCom and the Taliset and Everdawn CMM RCTs in liberating Icecrown and Port Allen from the Usurper's forces. Covering the landings on Port Allen, a squadron of aerospace fighters from the 45th Lyran Guards scored a direct hit on her aft small craft bays, inflicting damage that necessitated a year and a half of repairs.
Reentering service in time for Operation SOVEREIGN JUSTICE, the Ian Davion spent most of that time guarding rear areas from Capellan Warship raids. During the Capellans' Operation THUNDERSTRIKE counterattack, she sustained a near-miss from a nuclear warhead that narrowly avoided doing serious damage. Over the next four years, the Ian Davion was involved in commerce raiding and escort duties, against the Taurians, Capellans and Blakists, before vanishing en route back to New Syrtis for resupply in July of 3073 and declared lost with all hands on the 23rd.
Her fate was eventually uncovered by a Republic survey team in 3114, when they were renewing the Star League-era maps of uninhabitable star systems. In the JV48975 system, the survey ship Far Sight Lost found the wreck of the Ian Davion drifting at the zenith point, along with the wreck of an unidentifiable Feng Huang class cruiser. With both ships' computer logs unrecoverable, best estimates are that they both jumped into the system to recharge their KF drives at the same time, and consequently engaged in a battle that resulted in mutual destruction.
