Hit Locations on Tripod Mechs
« on: 16 July 2019, 20:57:51 »
I recently bought a record sheets book that includes the Triskelion. But I don't know how to handle hit locations for a tripod mech! Does anyone know how to handle that? Bonus question: does the tripod config affect PSRs, the way quad mechs are more stable than bipedal ones?

You've placed your questions in the wrong area.  Moving it somewhere better.

Strategic Operations Interstellar Operations pg 164-65

Quote
Leg Hit Locations: Hits against a tripod ’Mech use the appropriate BattleMech Hit Locations Table for bipedal ’Mechs, but every time a hit strikes any leg location on this table, roll 1D6, applying a +1 modifier if the attack direction is from the left side, or a –1 modifier if the attack direction is from the right side. On a modified result of 0-2, the attack strikes the tripod’s right leg; on 3-4, the attack strikes its central leg; and on 5-7, the attack strikes the left leg. Excess damage to the center leg transfers directly to the center torso, while excess damage from either side leg transfers to its adjacent side torsos.

Bonus
Quote
Tripod Piloting Skill Rolls: Apply a –1 target modifier to all Piloting Skill rolls made to avoid falls, or to stand up after falling or dropping prone.

You also get an additional -1 for having the dedicated pilot for a cumulative of -2

Point of order: It's Interstellar Operations, not StratOps.

I imagine Ulquiorra9000's next question will be "What happens if a tripod loses a leg?" The answer:

Quote from: Interstellar Operations, p. 164
Movement Phase
As long as a tripod ’Mech possesses three undestroyed legs, it receives all of the benefits described below. Should one or more of a tripod ’Mech’s legs be destroyed, it will immediately fall in accordance with standard rules for leg destruction, lose all of these movement benefits, and its remaining movement and piloting modifiers will be the same as those of a biped ’Mech that has suffered a destroyed leg (see p. 122, TW).
All other movement rules governing ’Mechs (and, if appropriate, superheavy ’Mechs) apply to tripod ’Mechs as well.

So tripods get 2 pilots.  Interesting...  Very interesting.

Jump seat Quirk and Cockpit Command Console can bring that total up to five

Can tripods even mount Command Consoles?  I thought their specialized cockpits prohibited it.

You'd think that, but there doesn't seem be to an actual rule prohibiting it

What physicals can they do??  They've got no arms/hands, so can't push, hatchet/claw/sword/punch.  Can they still kick and charge/DFA?

Tripods have two arms, like bipeds.

The Rules in IO prohibit all other cockpit types except for the rumble seat and cramped cockpit  quirks.  :(

Ohh, didn't know that part..

I think the tripods in the War of the Worlds tribute project had no (or at least vestigial) arms. That may be what's causing the confusion.
