Non-Battletech: Warships!
« on: 05 December 2016, 10:48:04 »
Some naval minis! Most are from GHQ, the Texas, Kuznetsov, and subs are from Viking Forge.

First off for the USN, the Virginia-class CGN-39 USS Texas and Ticonderoga-class CG-70 USS Lake Erie:

Up next, the Arleigh Burke-class DDG-64 USS Carney and DDG-61 USS Ramage, and Oliver Hazard Perry-class FFG-58 USS Samuel B. Roberts:

A combined shot of all of my USN minis completed thus far:

Up next, the Russians!

A couple surface combatants, the Slava-class Marshal Ustinov and Udaloy-class Severomorsk:

This one was posted before a few years back, but with improved photography(and some serious dusting), the Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Kuznetsov-class Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Kuznetsov(Yes, I did post that twice just to be a berk. :) ):

Subs! The Typhoon(Akula)-class Dmitri Donskoi and Severstal, and the Sierra(Barrakuda)-class Kostroma, Nizhniy Novgorod, and Pskov:

And again, a combined view:

All of these ships are in 1/2400 scale. For perspective, all of the surface vessels save the Kuznetsov are mounted on bases that are 3/4" wide.

That's it for now. Up next, I'm currently working on an Amphibious Ready Group centered on the USS Iwo Jima, and then I'll likely work up some Belgian and Japanese ships.

Harpoon, Shipwreck, I've recently discovered Naval Command...there are several rulesets out there for missile-era naval combat.

Lovely work, in such a small scale!

And the Typhoon ... three subs in extremely close formation.

It gets considerably easier when you bolt them together. :)

Look over there, it's an update!

The aforementioned Iwo Jima group is done, but not yet photographed. Instead, here's a carrier group of the Marine Nationale, centered around the CVN Charles de Gaulle. Escorts are the Horizon-class frigates Forbin and Chevalier Paul, and Aquitaine-class frigates Aquitaine and Provence.

By the way, no decals were involved here, even de Gaulle's flight deck is hand painted. Yes, that was as much a pain in the ass as it sounds.

Ask and ye shall receive!

Starting my foray into papercraft gaming miniatures, a 1/600-scale 74-gun Ship of the Line. Yes, you read that right. Aside from wire masts/yards and thread for rigging, this ship is nothing but paper.

great looking ship!
but in this scale you need a really big table if you want to field more than one sqadron per side.

how long did it take to build this one?

Squadron-scale fights are about what I'd look for, anyway. Most game systems that are built for fleet engagements lose an acceptable amount of single-ship detail for my tastes.

Finally got pictures of my USN amphibious assault ships.

First, the Blue Ridge-class command ship, USS Blue Ridge:

Then a pair of troop transports, the Whidbey Island-class USS Tortuga and Austin-class USS Ponce:

And leading them all, the Wasp-class USS Iwo Jima:

Note, as with the French ships earlier, there are no decals here. I had a decal for the Wasp's flight deck, but it melted when softening solvent was applied, so that had to be hand-painted as well. Moreover, that mini came with damaged masts, so I had to scratchbuild those and the radar platforms.

Finishing up my Russian fleet for the foreseeable future...

A pair of Krivak-class frigates, the Pytlivyy and Ladnyy:

...photobucket has chosen this moment to be stupid, so I'll attach the last couple pics directly. First,  the Sovremennys Gremyashchiy and Admiral Ushakov, followed by the one that Worktroll's been waiting for, the Kirov-class Pyotr Velikiy, or as I like to call it, the Spiffy Petey. :)
