I guess I'll let you put me in for the Beowulf on the 20th of April.

Barring, of course, any new variants showing up if they put out a Record Sheets: Prototypes Unabridged...

Well, guess I'm going to request the opportunity to write up a few more 'Mechs... Do tell me if someone covered any of them recently...

Falcon, Hoplite, Archer, and Shogun.

The Archer's been covered recently.  (By me, actually.)  The only thing I'm aware of that it's missing is the primitive variant on the Reunification War RATs we still don't have stats for.

The others have not.  The easiest way I've found to check something like this is to use the Directory and look for an active link.

Is everyone free to write an article, or do you guys have a set team of writers already?

Because if allowed, I'd be interested in covering some of the more recent WoB gear like the celestials and the likes.

I'd ask that you go on the schedule (which is a convenience both for the rest of the writers and the person managing the schedule, since it lets them avoid having holes), but beyond that courtesy, no, we don't have a set team.  In fact, I was asking for more writers to step up recently.

In that case, mind if I do the Archangel on the 27th? that date seems empty according to your schedule.

Oh... Darn... Was really hoping to be able to write up Jaime's Archer...

Well, in its place in the Heavy category (darn OCD/Asperger's/ADHD), I'll fill that request for the Black Python/Viper.

I was shot a PM asking for the Marshall to be covered.  I'll take it unless soemone really wants it.

They were covered previously and no one's gotten around to writing a new article in this iteration of the forums yet.  Give it time.

The 'Cat took three articles last time around, it's a lot of work
Also could all articles go onto a wiki or something so next forum crash we don't lose them all?

I would very much appreciate this.  Although I don't particularly like sarna that much, it'd work.

Kansas City players, or people who are just passing through the area, come join us at the Geekery just off Shawnee Mission Parkway for BattleTech!  Current days are Tuesdays in the afternoon and evening.  I can't make every single week, but odds are pretty good that somebody will be there.

You'd need the authors' permission and Sarna's policies mean it wouldn't be the place to go.

More to the point, we didn't lose them all.  Several of us have pieces of the old archives and together, we've got basically the whole thing.  There was a discussion at the beginning of these forums and there was a general consensus not to mass repost.  Some authors chose to do so with their own works - Trace, myself to some degree (and I repost anything of mine I do have when it comes up on the boards), etc.  Some didn't.  As a result, I don't think a wiki is really the solution you're looking for.  Save it on your hard drive if you want to keep it.

Beyond taking that step, I'm asking you to not pursue the matter further.  There have been some stubbed toes on that in the past and it's best to just move on.

As Moonsword points out, every author has a difrent idea of what Mech of the Week (or whatever) means to them.  For somes, its a chance to take a look at new and underutalized mechs as a way to give them a bit of life; for others, its a chance to examine the classics, mechs every one of us knows and has used or faced at least once if we've got more than half a dozen games under out belts, to draw out that common experiance and explore what makes such mechs to popular.  For others, its just about requests.

So, when you don't see a given mech up, its not because none of the authors like that mech; quite the conterary, it may be because many of them like it very much, and feel that it will be so well known as not to need an introduction (likely the case for many authors and the Timber Wolf/Mad Cat).

It also may (in both cases at hand) simply be that some mechs offer a truely hurculean task to properly cover.  My Marauder article ran something like 5000+ words, and there were still things I found I would have liked to add in after it had been reviewed a bit (and that was before the addition of several new veriants).  Something with ten or more difrent incarnations like the Timby or Beemer would require hours of reserch, writing and review/editing (yes, despite my nortoriously bad spelling when posting on the quick, I did tend to try and check my articles as best I could). Even a fairly cursory, slapdash job would still take the better part of an hour, in my mind, if it was anything more than a cut and past from something else.  So all but the most dedicated authors are often aprehensive (and even some of them, too).

But, of course, the glory of our present system is that you can make a request and have confidance that it will be honored sooner rather than later (difrent authors in the one-author days had difrent views on requests).  And, as often as not, a request for a repost of a mech with an old article will generate one (I don't think I ever did either, so its not me, in this case).

Wasn't me or I would have posted it by now.  And yeah, they do require a fair investment of time.  The Archer article is big enough I'm probably going to have to split it in two whenever the ARC-1A's stats are released since it already barely cleared the character limit.

Just a short update: I was shockingly distracted by RL last week and whenever that happens and I return to BT, that "volunteer for CGL" nuisance rears its ugly head. So while the Wolverine MotW has been on my mind for much longer, other things pushed themself to the forefront late last week and on the weekend. On the upside, I did make headway tonight and can guarantee an ETA of tomorrow.

Many apologies, all!

Oh, and I'm totally to blame for the BAotW's many delays, too. :'(

And I was about to PM you to offer to exchange dates...  :P

Edit: After discussions, it was agreed that I would post the Beowulf now, and he takes my slot with the Wolverine.

He needed the time, and by posting this now, I can possibly avoid an unforseen delay if an Unabridged Record Sheets set comes out.

I'm sure we'll get one eventually.  'Mech of the Week covers what the authors choose to cover for the most part.  I'll toss that into the request pile for now.
