Hunchback LAM prototype
« on: 20 February 2019, 10:56:05 »
Created as a part of the early prototyping by Doctor Cortland into the area on land-air-mech designs.
The Hunchback LAM prototype was considered enough of a success to initiate the Spectral LAM series program.
Like the Spectral series it was built for VDNI equiped Manei Domini test pilots.

It manages to provide a compelling package in addition to being a Trimodal-LAM:
The AC20 is upgraded to a Clan ultra version fed by 2 tonnes extra ammo compared to the original and it is protected by CASE.
The small laser in the head is upgraded to a pulse version to increase anti infantry potential.
The added jump jets give a higher jumping speed than the previous walking speed (not to mention the high speed in the other modes).
The switch to DHS gives it vastly improved heat sinking capabilites even with the removal of 2 sinks.
The 3 tones of fuel in total gives it good endurance for a LAM and the extra fuel is kept in the CASE protected left torso for extra security

All this while matching the armor of the standard hunchback!

The downsides?
In order to achieve its performance it utilized som fragile lightweight materials in the form of composite structure and volatile prototype IJJ's
The CASE protects the mech from destruction, but a left torso blow out will prevent transformation and put the UAC out of action, forcing a withdrawal.
Even though the mech is a speedy jumper now, the actual ground speed has been reduced down to assault levels, which means that it spends most of its time doing fast bounds across the ground. When bounding across the ground the hot pIJJ together with the rapid fire rate of the UAC20 necessitated a removal of the medium lasers since the mech got heat soaked in combat conditions

Nice, but yeah, she's a bit of a glass canon..... nasty when it hits though
If at first you don't succeed, make it worth the repairman's time!

Why not just go all the way and make an UrbanLAM?

Haha
I like the way you are thinking  ;)
The biggest issue with that is that you basically cant free more space by making it slower on the ground... So it would be even more... "challanged"

Would and even slower urbie LAM even be fast enough to take off in Airmech mode?
I'm rarely right... Except when I am.  ---  Idle question.  What is the BV2 of dread?
Apollo's Law- if it needs Clan tech to make it useable, It doesn't deserve those resources in the first place.
Sure it isn't the most practical 'mech ever designed, but it's a hundred ton axe-murderer. If loving that is wrong I don't wanna be right.

Well, I guess it is true that you can make anything fly given enough thrust.   A Hunchback LAM is proof of this.

Personally, Id be really concerned about letting rip with the the of bore UAC20 in flight
