This gives me a grand idea for a JagerMech variant.

Ruger

Yeah, I was wondering what a Gauss Rifle Jag (say salvaged in Guerrero) refit with Light Gauss might be like but I will have to wait until I get home to play with HMP.  Question is do you do Light Guass/ERLL or Light Gauss/LRM in each arm for the Free Worlds League feel?

the true FWL feel is an XL engine with paper armor so it can go faster

LGRs are drop in replacements for AC/10s that are better in almost every single way.

Anything with multiple LB-2Xs shouldn't have legs.  You can save that variant from the "only used as a joke" bin by using almost literally anything else.

Well, Weirdo always says 'range, range, range!' for AA role . . . LB-2X and LGRs would put the Jag back to its AA role.  Trying to remember if Reactive works against bombs . . . make it a real AA platform.

It would definitely be more efficient in a conventional platform than a mech...but we're people who play Battletech. Heck, we're Leaguers! We march under a banner that proclaims "**** Efficiency" in mile-high letters from the moment we choose to support a neofeudalist faction that actually takes giant robots seriously, and ours specializes in factional infighting, no less. One LB-2X is fine and I'll grudgingly use one on something like the Uziel-3S.  Two is straight into the garbage bin.  Spending 13+ tons on getting a second nigh-unmissable shot at a passing ASF is just bad.

the 4P is known by some as the Disco Ball of Doom™ as it runs eight medium lasers with enough heatsinks to keep up pretty well. it doesn't have the wallup of 20 points to one location but it is pretty lethal.

Interesting - I played around with one on Megamek to get a feel for it. Definitely missed the big wallop of the AC/20, but no ammo explosion risk was very nice.

Quote
the 4J turns the hunchie into a super whitworth with a pair of LRM-10s... and five medium lasers if someone decides to close with you.

Ah, so this would pair well as a bodyguard for some missile boats? Or would the 4N be a better guard?

Quote
the 4SP gives you more sandblasting ability with a quartet of medium lasers and dual SRM-6s.

Ok - could you compare/contrast the the 4SP vs the 4P? The SRMs sound good for crit seeking, but all the ML sound like a better overall build, especially without the risk of an ammo explosion.

Yeah the short range sting of those lasers makes people think. Or they don’t realize how many it’s packing.

And no extra cost to exchange to torpedoes either.

Also each hit would cause a breach roll. Fun thing about that threat, all they'll see is a Hunchie, as long as they don't know the variant... they'll  try to stay out of that 9 hex range, fast. Nobody wants a PSR! Run and 7 lasers gets you very handable heat management.

And loading up Smoke and Infernos in a 4SP, isn't wrong... is it? >:D

Okay, the Jager DG (looked up last night in MM, could not comment, my net crapped out till Friday) might be the definition of a glass cannon . . . around 50% of armor putting it at good old 3025 levels on a XL machine (which still has CASE in the side torsos when there is no ammo there), explosive guns in the arms that most heavy weapons could go internal on a single hit, and while it has enough ammo (6t) to stay in a long fight the rest of the mech cannot hold up to that (24 rounds of fire!) . . . the single heatsinks are actually fine.

. . . the Jagermech 6-DG is the extremely rare mech that will be improved by swapping the Gauss Rifles out for Light Gauss when it becomes available.  You free up 6 tons when swapping weapons, keep the ammo count the same you also free up another 3 tons, and that means you get 9 tons to work with just swapping the main weapons!  I mean, how often does a Leaguer really say 'Light Gauss will make that design better.'

Or you can drop the engine to make it 3/5 (I think its a 300 XL?) to squeeze on the paired LB-2Xs with a ton of ammo and a half ton of armor!  Bad with style!

Huh, thanks! I had a lot of tunnel vision on the HBK, didn't realize how versatile the platform is.

Bear in mind, no published Hunchback can fire torpedoes. You'd need to customize one by ripping out the missile launchers and replacing them with torpedo tubes before that could happen.

Technically true,  but clans have that Multi-Missile. But you'll need clan launchers. As is, torpedoes are swappable from missiles,  they don't cost anymore than regular launchers,  just ammo cost different.
