That seems pretty reasonable. My last car cost me 15k. Now the Clang-a-Son is driving it and I'm driving an old 4 thousand dollar used Ford Ranger.

Yeah the sicker on that Cadillac was $51000 - I bought it three years old with 33k miles on it. I thought it was a great buy.  Very nice to drive

I'd love to get my hands on a CTS-V.  It's the perfect car in my book.  Big (possibly supercharged) V-8, RWD, manual transmission, SEDAN.  It's everything you need AND want!

And still looks good!

Those are 6.2L supercharged, basically taken from the Corvette, and can be had with a six speed.

Out here there was a 2013 CTS-V Wagon SIX SPEED MANUAL with 100k miles in Black.  That's a rare car and a kick to drive I'm sure.  $39,999  The original sticker I'm sure was over $100k

time for new tires on the Beast.
why?
because we had heavy monsoon-like rain on I-95 yesterday.
and when I hit my brakes to stop short of t-boning a moron in a Cooper...
ol' Beast did a complete 360 spin.

in pouring MONSOON rain.
on I-95
in traffic

at 45 MPH.

and we didn't hit anything.
truck is fine.
and as soon as I can get my underwear from tickling my tonsils from the inside,
I'll be fine too.

Glad your OK and the beast is OK

Tires are very important and damn if they are not expensive as all hell.

That's because the morons at Ford and Firestone created the Explorer tire fiasco.  That doubled the price of tires

QA does cost money.  Although going from a 14" tire to an 18" tire kinda means it is going to be more expensive.  And t hen we get into the tires designed specifically for a car, that makes it even more expensive.  I'll stick with my Falkens on the Focus, although the Jeep will get KM02's eventually, that is going to hurt lots.

Well the front tires in my Ranger have little cracks in them. Like the tire is breaking down or something. Plus the tires are looking like they're about worn out. They have maybe 20% tread left on them. I've been debating if I should get a couple new tires of just wait until one gives out on me.

The rear tires look newer and have more tread left on them. I haven't done anything with the tires since I got the vehicle two years ago.

Don't wait.  I blown tire is a great way to have a bad accident.

How old are they?  Old tires start to crack partly due to age and partly due to UV damage etc.

True and true, but at 20% tread it's time for new tires

Hey I am thinking about getting them replaced before it's too late. Driving between Tacoma and Seattle every day is 85 to 100 miles every day at almost freeway speeds until I run into the traffic.

Yep time for tires.

That sounds high mileage wise.

10 years appears to be the absolute limit for tires, regardless of how nice they look.

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=11  <-- how to read date codes on tires.

IIRC from my copies of grassroots motorsports and ma, if you want to extend the life of your tires, keep them cool and OUT of the sun, even if you have to use tire covers.

Oddly, I have also heard bad things about using tire dressing and uber cleaners on tires, but that bears research and confirmation.

All true.

The other day I took an original 1972 tire and rim to America's Tire to have the valve stem replaced.  The looked at it and said "I can't touch it.  That tire is from 1982."  I laughed and told him it was from 1972.

So it looks like I will be buying my own tire machine.

I found a tire machine and a balancer for $1269 - I don't need to do stupid big rims or ultra low profile tires so it sould work for me.

Ordered it last night.   O0

so the new tires came in.
on the way to my mechanic, I tried to smoke the old tires down.

it worked spectacularly.

right up until the RR blew out, and I had to put on the spare.
2 miles from the shop, with a bed full of brand new tires.....

...where's the facepalm emoji ?

anyone ever do a full tune up of a 4.7L V8 for the Ram?

I've got two mechanics giving me horror stories that inflate the price to several hundred bucks.  :(
