Jaguar’s Mists Binary

Command Star (unit SPA: Tactical Genius + 3 bonus SPAs ‘rounded up’)

Star Captain Avryl Showers, Spirit Walker, 2/3 (Natural grace, swordsman, unit SPA Tactical Genius)
Erlin, Blackjack-O, 2/4 (sniper, unit SPA Blood Stalker, unit SPA marksman)
Gast, Night Chanter, 3/4 (lucky)
Larris, Strider, 3/4 (Oblique attacker, LRM-15 weapon specialist)
Camille, Owens, 2/3 (eagle eye, forward observer, unit SPA antagoniser)

Battle Star (no formation bonus)

Star Commander Pence Lamongue, Banshee-5S (modified with clantech), 3/3 (Demoraliser, Antagoniser)
Mariam, Thunderbolt-5S (modified with clantech), 3/4 (Dodge)
Ronan, Shadow Hawk-K (modified with clantech), 3/4 (Hopper)
Ciara, Wyvern IIC, 3/4 (Blood Stalker)
Fahad, Jenner IIC, 3/4 (Jumping Jack)

Total BV (using Megamek): 25656

I'm using formation rules and SPAs from Campaign Operations for these, since these are specific units set up for frontline combat. The local Trivet forces, however, are going to be a messy hodgepodge in comparison.

Natural Grace has other SPAs as prerequisites?

Are there any SPAs with other SPAs as prerequisites? I don't think so. But some of them have synergistic effects.

Quite a few of them do:

From AToW:
Fist Fire requires Melee Specialist
Range Master requires Sniper
Sharpshooter requires Marksman
Melee Master requires Melee Specialist
Natural Grace requires Didge, Maneuvering Ace, Melee Specialist or Speed Demon

From the Companion:
Cluster Hitter requires Marksman
Oblique Artilleryman gets a discount if you already have Oblique Marksman
Sandblaster requires Weapon Specialist (with a cluster capable weapon)
Animal Mimicry requires Natural Grace
Hopper requires Maneuvering Ace or Natural Grace
Slugger requires Heavy Lifter
Stand-Aside requires Maneuvering Ace or Natural Grace
Streetfighter requires Melee Specialist
Swordsman requires Melee Specialist
Terrain Master/Frogman requires Maneuvering Ace
Terrain Master/Drag Racer requires Maneuvering Ace or Speed Demon
Zweihander requires Melee Specialist
Heavy Horse requires Light Horseman

Ah, I follow Campaign Ops rules, not the RPG ruleset, because the Campaign Ops ruleset is more flexible, particularly when you bring in bonus SPAs for formation, which won't make sense in a RPG context  - 'you're in a Rifle Lance and you magically gain the Cluster Hitter SPA!'

It's odd they enforce so much more stringent requirements on the RPG side.

Stringent in some ways, yeah. But laxer in others.

But note that an RPG character can, using the ATOW system, get up to SIX SPAs, 3 gunnery related, 3 piloting related.

Whereas Campaign Ops advises a maximum of 3 SPAs, and only limited to Heroic or Legendary units.

True, but CampOps doesn't enforce the requirement tree either, so you could, for example, take Natural Grace, Jumping Jack and Melee Master.

Yeah, that's right. I note that of the character profiles in the Era Reports, especially 3145, a number don't follow the SPA requirement trees either, e.g. Tara Campbell has Natural Grace and Melee Master SPAs without having the prereqs.

I guess the SPA tree in the RPG is meant to make the PCs really shine, after all, they're the Big Damn Heroes, so having 6 SPAs stacked up can really make an elite group of PCs run through opponents like a buzzsaw, while too many SPAs for a larger engagement can bog things down.

The only thing saving PCs from being true buzzsaws is that it's only 3 of each kind (gunnery or piloting), with the "Miscellaneous" ones having to be filed under one of the two categories.
