I have been killing time between my last few games making insignias for units. Since this has snow balled to epic proportions requiring some sort of intervention I thought I would share a few.
Here are:
Freeling's Frenzy
Captain's Caveman Corps
The Midway Monster's Mercenary Militia
and Cogburn's Roosters
-
Also:
Legio Testudo
Old Soldiers
Pedition's Legion
and Hell's Heartbreakers
-
Gandalf's Merlins
The Zombie Army
Samo's Sumos
and Roaring Bears
-
Striking Eagles
Scaredy Cats
Sacrificial LAMS
Scapegoats
-
Sleeping Dragons
Incontinent Gorillas
Dalton's Desperados
Selkirk's Sellswords
-
The Can Openers
The Boxers
The Stampede
Unfriendly Fire
-
April's Fools
Darren's Demolition Derby
The Funk Bots
Ghost Legion
-
And finally the two fighting it out for the name of my unit for my next campaign:
The Mercs With No Name
and Mimes Against Humanity
Comments and criticism are welcome, in fact they are sought. So if one or more rate highly with you or if you have a strong negative reaction to one or more, feel free to let me know.
Thanks everyone!
-
We can blame the mimes.
They won't talk.
-
Not bad, well done
I vote for Mercs with No Name, then you can have a dress uniform (https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CqcwtK6JFKY/V9Xc-Hq81II/AAAAAAAAVsI/cGIRTgC3ur8xA556L0BPAK5E1IlYjDZWACLcB/s1600/colmortimer-cl5-holster.jpg) like so.
-
Mercs with no name, they have a name that stands out.
-
Something about the Mercs With No Name insignia does not sit right. I may have to redo it.
-
I also like the Mercs with No Name... as far as the insignia, maybe drop the beard? It wouldn't really be visible at a distance anyway...
-
That is the hat strap.
-
Ah, didn't realize that... maybe do without it anyway? That might make it a bit cleaner...
-
Well, I was at it again.
A new Mercs With No Name
Combined Arms
and the fearsome...
Fluffy Bunnies
-
I like the new Mercs with no name badge.
Aren't the fluffy bunnies that evil pirate band out of Tortuga. :D
-
I like that new Mercs with No Name insignia much more than the old!
-

Me too. That one clicked much better.
-
Fluffy Bunnies
No lie. My friend's command for the Total Chaos campaign we've been playing for the last six years is Hell's Fluffy Bunnies.

HAHAHAHA!! That is awesome!
-
And because I have a serious problem, I present the new...
Combined Arms
-
Nice! Also, don't forget to change the text under your avatar... it still says Mimes Against Humanity, though you've switched the image to the Mercs with No Name logo...
-
Good catch. Thanks.
-
No problem! Looking great!
-
Any chance you are willing to make one for those of us less able? I have a unit I made up for the HBS game....
-
Sure. But I can do even better than that. I can give you the link to the website I use. All you have to do is put your logo together and just click on the save icon. It will then give a pop up asking if you want to pay 19.99 for them to do a high quality version or take the one you made and just give them credit on facebook, twitter or something like that.

Combined Arms
I love this.
Seeing your design made me recall a unit I trained with many moons ago.

Nice! I just reworked mine.

Did the link work out for you? If not I would be happy to make one up. Also if anyone wants to use any of these go right ahead.
-
Here is a new one.
-
Hey everyone could I get some feed back on these? First, second or third, which one is better?
-
The first looks like the easiest one to paint on the side of a unit, so I'm going with that one...
-
*ping!* I just found a new source for random mercs/OPFORs...
-
Forgot to add this one to the three others. Sorry.
-
That looks even easier to paint than the horse... I'd take this one over the others.
-

Go right ahead.
-
Last one, mainly because I am running out of ideas. Devils Doughboys. This one goes back to my high school nickname.
-
-
A few new ones. A new working of the Samo's Sumos and Atomic Dogs.
-
I made a couple for the movers and shakers in a campaign, I'm putting together. Really appreciate you bringing up this website. Saved me a lot of time.
-
Do.... do you happen to do requests at all? Super simple ones, of course!

Holy heck, this is some work that makes mine look simplistic. Hell of a job.
-

Me or Koalabirb? I can try if you would like. I am still working on one that I really like.

Anyone really - although if you're offering, I'd be really grateful - I've been really admiring your style.
My personal unit, Cavalli's Cavaliere, has a slate grey knight chess piece, with the horse's mane in gold, on a maroon background.
Does that sound do-able?
-
I will work on it this afternoon and post an image when it is finished.

Amazing! Thanks in advance!
-
I put together two options
-
That was quick! I like these guys a lot - probably the plain maroon as it is a little less busy.
Like it a lot - thanks heaps!

@koalabirb and @Drewbacca
That is some really great unit insignia's you guys have made. If you guys don't mind I am going to add these to my MegaMek Force Image collection. Also thank you Drewbacca for the link for the Logo Maker.
Thanks,
Robby

Go right ahead. I am trying to find one that I really like and would love to see someone get use out of these.
-
I did this one for my howngrown clan Clan Platypus by hand
-
And here is a quick electronic version that is somewhat not as good.
With an added bonus.
-
Ha! Trouser Snake...
-
Those two clans originally came from this list:
1. Clan Iron Butterfly- Found in the jungles of Eden, the Iron Butterfly has the colorful markings of its Terran counterparts, but sturdier wing and body segments.
2. Clan Platypus- Initially released on the Pentagon worlds as a joke, the hardy monotremes survived and prospered, adapting to quickly to life where water was present. Nicolas respected this adaptability, marking the ability to change with the situation as a key trait a successful warrior needed to possess. Nicolas also found the platypode's habit of constantly searching for food in even the most unfavorable conditions as a testament to the need to always gather information. The platypus was passed over in favor of the sea fox, when that predator was able to quickly check the platypode's progress into the freshwater seas of Strana Mechty.
3. Clan Blitz Sloth- In all respects this mammal is a carbon copy of its Terran brethren, with a few notable exceptions. The blitz sloth is capable of living in a variety of trees, having even been found on the sturdier branches of conifers. Also, as the name implies, the blitz sloth is taken to bursts of extreme quickness. The omnivorous blitz sloth hangs casually from branches munching leaves, only to reach out with lightning speed to snag small birds, reptiles and amphibians, even smaller mammals that cross its path. Nicolas saw the patience of this hunter as a good trait for a warrior.
4. Clan Newt- Nicolas, doing a study of the names at the top of the list noticed something. He had two avian species, two arachnid, four reptiles, one hellion (whatever that was) and the rest mammals, NO amphibians. Nicolas briefly considered Clan Newt, before deciding equality among the animal kingdom was not a necessity.
5. Clan Trouser Snake- No record exists of any such creature and the scrawled name of Clan Trouser Snake was preceded by two attempts in which it was spelled incorrectly. It is thought that this option was intended as a joke.
6. Clan Incontinent Gorilla- A name come up with apparently by Andery Kerensky, during the initial trials for a spot in the 800. While watching a large scale battle, Andery noticed a group of warriors, who rushed their opponents and unleashed a furious barrage of physical attacks, including instances of attempting to twist an enemy battlemech's head off, kicking a leg clean off a mech and pummeling that very mech about the head and torso with it, numerous Death From Above attacks with varying success, and in one case what appeared to be a German Suplex applied to a Wasp by a Black Knight. Knowing that such "dishonorable" tactics would essentially remove them from consideration, Andery suggested to Nicolas he relent and place these warriors in a clan called Clan Incontinent Gorilla. When asked why that name, Andery is said have responded, "Because they are going (expletive deleted) on everyone out there."
7.Clan Orca- Impressed with the intelligence of the Dagdan sea wolf, and reminded of the Terran orca and its hunting prowess, Nicolas originally planned to name one of his clans Clan Orca. The orca's ability to tackle prey of any size or type made it an ideal totem. Nicolas changed his mind however when the first potential recruits to be assigned to this clan took the pod mentality to heart, and used concentrated fire on their opponents. The sight of a mech being blasted to scrap at the hands of alpha strikes from five different mechs, which then went on to repeat the process was jarring to Nicolas' budding mindset of honorable combat.
-
And here are their symbols
-
And the rest
-
Clan Trouser snake, hmmm, wonder if I'm related. :D
-
I have to ask on Clan Iron Butterfly, do this still rock to "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida"
-
Yeppers.
-
Just put together a couple more.
The Drop Bears Assault Company
Ferrel's Feral Ferrets
The Stalkers
-
Being an Aussie the drop bears should have claws and sharp teeth falling on to the heads of unsuspecting backpackers. >:D

I knew I was forgetting something. I will have to redo that one.
-
Let's see if this works...
-
That's some very nice work there
-
Let's see if this works...
I dig it, the Gurkha knife, whose name presently escapes me, is an interesting touch.
What's the story?
-

What's the story?
The kukri - nothing better for skinning a wolf!
-
Let's see if this works...
Nice.
-
Thanks! The kukri represents the CO's origins in the 4th Regulan Hussars during Anton's Revolt, and the wolf pelt (and red color) his grudge against the Dragoons from the same. I'm setting this up as the unit that existed prior to a particular disaster that strands the PCs on a disreputable Periphery world. One player has already made their character, and I'm working on getting the rest over to my house at some point to do the same...

Where could I get a copy of the collection.
-
All these logos and I can't make a merc unit to save my life.
-
Let's see, taking a few of them and putting my tongue in cheek... :P
Caveman Company. Not the most sophisticated of the mercenary commands in the Inner Spere, you can rely on them to take down the mammoths of the age: they specialize in assault mech hunting through ruses, traps and ambushes, where their smaller mech use coordinated attacks tpo down them. The Cavemen have been the bane of more than one company that though itself safe under all those tons of armor. Their use of firestarters to shut down assault mechs is legendary.
Cogburns roosters. A mercenary command that has taken to the clan approach of Batchall and use it as frequently as they can. They are also one of the biggest tall story tellers you will find in the IS, with Valkyrie pilots explaining how they take on Stalkers on a weekly basis.
Legio Testudo. A company of Lyran descent, the legio testudo is famous for turtle-ing it out. They are great at securing a location, but tend to be poor raiders or reserve units, taking a looooong time to assess the threat and intervene. Few people can sack them from a defensive position, though.
Old Soldiers. A small command formed by veteran mechwarriors. The unit recreuits from mechwarriors that are deemed too old to serve in more active units. While there are 2 heavy lances in the company, they are generally hired as advisors, where their experience in warfare is paramount to the HQ more than as combat troops.
Hell’s heartbreakers. A unit of young dashing mechwarriors. Boast a lot, drink more, have to run from more planet when the daughter or son of the ruling family elopes. Their combat record do not support most of their boasts, but they are cheap and easy to convince to come as long as you write “girls” and “booze” in the contract.
Gandalf’s Merlins. A periphery merc unit boasting a lot of the aforementioned mechs. They say they can play magic with them. They are rather new to the inner sphere, so that claim is still unsustained.
The Zombie Army. A force of assault mechs and hunchbacks. When they are committed to battle they are not the fast units, but a good front line regiment. They go in regardless of casualties. They kill stuff. They go out. All of it like they do not care. Reliable if simple in their tactical approach.
Myrmidons. A reliable unit. Like their namesakes, they use a lot of heavy mechs, specially Zeus, Cyclops and Ares battlemechs. Their unit commander rides in Achilles, a Zeus mech that has never been downed; even if he is a great mechwarrior, he is somewhat overconfident, leading from the front at all times.
Devil’s Doughboys. A unit renowned for their great appetite and even greater power abuse when it comes to the local population. Still, they are what you need when there is a pirate raid. Their blue mechs and “Law and Order” policy does not tolerate breakings in their contract or the interests of their employer. LCivilian populations might not agree 100%, but so is life.
Drop bears. A unit of drop infantry and VTOLS specializing in high risk nocturnal drops in or near key enemy locations.
Feral Ferrets. A unit renowned for their primal and savage defence tactics, not giving quarter nor expecting it when they are assigned a location to defend.
Stalkers. A recon unit. Use a lot of long range communications equipment. Being of capellan origin, they are one of the few mercenary users of the Swift Wind car. Their attack taxctics tend to deal with attacking clearly inferior targets with overwhelming force, usually with rapid insertion. Have a no survivors policy.
Men With No Name. A company coming for Eastwood, a penal planet. How they cgot their mechs is quite unclear, but none of the pilots has ever told their name to anyone. Might be their fellonious past or a policy. The leader is known by his nechwarrior name: Blondie. Surprisingly for a hard hitting unit like his, Blondie pilots a Clint.
-
Great ideas.

Started a new topic on this :) Moving your suggestions there
-
Excellent idea, thanks!
-
I was on a bit of a logo kick again.
Here are four options for the 1st Trinity Rangers.
-
Options 3 and 4.
-
Here are three VTOL merc companie insignias.
The Dragonflies
Hummingbird Air Assault Company
The Golden Eagles
-
Here is one for a current project. A group of errant mechwarriors working the periphery assembled from all of the successor states. The pennants represent the five houses.
-
And modified version of the Knights with the former faction colors worked in.
Suns
Confederation
League
-
Commonwealth
Combine
-
I am fairly sure the deadliest VTOL units are the ones with the non threatening logos and names.
The Trinity rangers are marik if I ever saw one
Nice logos!
-
I think the first Trinity Rangers logo is the easiest to paint, so that's where my vote goes...
-
While I like all the Trinity Ranger logos, I would choose either 1 or 4, and possibly both. 1 would be on Mechs and vehicles, and 4 would be on uniforms, with the dangles as rank indicators.
-
Still working on the First Trinty Rangers.
-
I like the second one
-
Agreed... I think the imagery is less faction confusing.
-
A reworking of Knights of the Frontier
-
Awesome!
-
Awesome!
Thanks. I get a kind of Don Quixote vibe from it.
-
Pretty, but hard to paint... lots of small details...

Pretty, but hard to paint... lots of small details...
That was the first thing that went through my head. Thank god for decals.
-
Pretty Sure you are all getting tired of these, but I was bored so I did a few more. Starting with a reworking of Incontinent Gorrillas to make it a bit more colorful.
-
And a few new ones.
The Rocking Socking Battlemechs
Dean's Unicorns
The Thundering Lancers
-
Got bored today and decided to see if I could come up with something new, without thinking of a concept first. I kind of like these.
First Star Cavalry
Phoenix Legion
-
When I need a down on their luck unit... you provide the flag. :D
-

Sounds like a plan.
-
VERY nice work!
What're the odds that you take requests?
Because IF you do, I really need three individual company insignias for my Black Knights battalion. Something uniquely identifying each company within the battalion and where a given mech belongs to kind of thing.
I have as follows:
A) Black's Own Knights (or Black's Own): The command company run by Major Aaron Black himself, and hand-picked by him personally.
B) Wu's Yaoguai: An aggressively run assault company commanded by a former Death Commando, and named after Chinese monsters/demons (?) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yaoguai (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yaoguai)
and lastly
C) Ritter's Rangers: A general purpose company that acts as fire support, combat strikes, back-up, and fast recon/scout duties. Very much a mixed "Wild Bunch" kind of group
-
I can probably have them done next wednesday or thursday.
-
That'd be fantastic, and thanx in advance! 8) ;D
-
Here are a couple I whipped up today.
For Wu's Yaoguai I wanted to go more abstract and keep the shield element as a unifying factor.
The Rangers were a bit harder so I kept it a bit simple.
And for Black's Own, I thought, the question is how much blacker could it be and the answer is none, none blacker.
-
Seriously though everyone if any of these interest you, please feel free to use them

-
I was kind of inspired by your chess knight and created this: King's Bishops (It's the Bishops!)
-
Interesting!
Different colors and I could find a use for that one! Got a Hover tank unit commanded by a Captain Alonzo Bishop!
-
Ask and you shall receive.
-
Thanx!
-
Got kind of board. So I made these.
Kermit's Crabs
The Cricketeers.

A reworking of Atomic Dogs and the Mudskippers.
