as of right now the 3063 TO&E is the most current, since i am now gearing up for a return to roleplaying the RWR we will see if any new units are built or old units rebuilt.

   Within the second year of the 1st Succession War the Republic lost 30% of her worlds to Steiner and Combine forces.  President Douglas died due to medical complications that were never divulged( he committed suicide). Young Jacob Now 19yrs old and fully in control addressed the Senate and announced his taking over his fathers position of president of the republic.  Not supprisingly the senate chose to keep the young leader at the helm of the deteroating war effort.  One of the first acts the new president enacted was the relocating of vital industry and populace to the deep periphery distracts.  After that he recalled forces fighting on worlds deemed acceptable losses and sent units needing reforming to the deep periphery district and called for the formation of additional units to fight off the invading forces.

2787:  The Year of Death

  By his 19th birthday young Jacob, now a seasoned mechwarrior, is firmly in control of the Republic Senate and has successfully defended several worlds from attack.  With the Draconis Combine and Lyran Commonwealth forces fighting each other now the Republic is now safe for a little while while the Dragon and Merchants pummel each other instead of Republic Forces.  Though the recall of heavily damaged units is the prudent thing to do, Jacob is firm in his resolve that no frontline unit currently one jump away from the active war front is to be moved for fear of attack.

The Commonwealth was lossing ground in the war with the Combine, but was winning the war with the Republic.  All the former worlds from Black Earth were now Commonwealth worlds and hundreds of loyal Republic soldiers were dead.  On May 8, 2787 the Commonwealth launched a new offensive against the Republic hitting the world of Malibu and Beta VII.  The 1st RID and the 1st JID were both on Malibu.  Commander Tolathi Vahn of the 1st RID sent a message to the Republic High Command requesting aid stating at least one full battlemech division strength force was attacking Malibu and current defense forces were inadequate to defend world.  2 weeks later a jumpship arrived with supplies and was promptly destroyed by Commonwealth Warships.

2788-2794 Years of Despair

from 2788 through 2794 the Republic forces have been fighting for nearly six yrs. Many casualties were from soldiers cracking under the pressure of constant warfare.  From 2788 until 2794 Republic worlds fell to Commonwealth forces like ripe wheat during harvest.  The Draconis Combine seeing the Commonwealth stretch their force thin launched a new offensive and completly smashed through thin border forces, while sending a small task force of 25 regiments and two squadrons of warships support.  Retaking many of the previous worlds they left after their biological weapons attacks.  Combine forces attack Apollo in late 2788 with horrendous losses on both sides.   The 1st BMD was on planet along with the 3rd MID.  18 various regiments along with one warship squadron and accompining jumships arrived in system and proceeded to launch an invasion fleet.  A Republic warships squadron engaged the Combine squadron and in a running battle of three days destroyed all Combine warships and 44% of the jumpship fleet.  The Combine dropships and fighter escorts came under heavy attack from Republic fighters.  A dogfight continued throught the atmosphere and Combine fighters won but were unable to provide support after due to severe losses.   The 1st BMD and 3rd MID attack the dropships and the Combine forces before they hit the ground.  by 5:00 am the next day the 3rd was gutted, while all Combine forces were wiped out.

After the Combine raid on Apollo, the Senate and President Durant began procedures for the movement of the capitol form Apollo to Orion in a deep periphery district.   Jacob was deeply saddened by this move for he loved his homeworld and did not wish to see it destroyed.   

August 2788

   Jacob sat in his office for the last time.  The retreat as it is being called is almost complete on Apollo, with the thin line being held by the Republic forces it is a miracle that the Combine or the Commonwealth hasn't found out yet.  So far the Commonwealth front is quiet, too quiet, the lyrans are up to something.  Pushing the intercom button "Carla get me Grand General Smythe in here.".  One hour later the General knocks on the door "Enter" replies Jacob, a quiet unassuming man in a grey field uniform enters the office and sits down in a chair.  "You sent for me President Jacob" "yes i did, look we need to know what the Lyrans are planning, so i need you to recommend a special ops unit to found out."

October 2788
Malibu

    Major Chun Elias of the 34th Commando Squadron looked over the Lyran Mech Base.  Slinking back towards a prepared meeting point he awaited the arrival of the other teams.   Looking at his watch it had been 4 days, 7 hours since their arrival and nothing to show for it.   

    Midnight:  All of the commando teams gathered together to compare notes on the base defenses.   Major Chen spoke "Ok teams 5 and 7, are to tap the phone lines and intercept any radio communications.  Teams 1 and 6 are to infiltrate the base and capture the senior military officer.  Teams 3 and 4 are to destroy as much equipment as possible.

Major Chun looked the Lyran General over and spat in his face, "Now General if you know what is good for you, you will give in complete detail the lyran forces, their level of readiness, how many warships, jumpships and dropships and what support forces you have on the Republic front.  Or ill just have to let Seargent McKay have his way with you"  then the General spied the aforementioned seargent pulling various tool from his backpack and his eyes widedned in terror.   After 3 hours the lyrat gave Major Chun all the intel he wanted, then he was mercifully put out of his misery.   "Allright teams 1, 2 and 6 are to sneak back onto the base and set charges at these 3 dropship, pointing to the hastly drawn map of the base.  teams 3 adn 4 you mission is to infiltrate this dropship that should lift off and dock with a waiting jumsphip.  your mission will be to disperse throughout the lyran fleet and set charges in their jumpships and warships.  your teams are not expected to return."

15 day later over the embattled world of somerset 14 jumpships with attached dropship exploded after jumping insystem.  Investigations by Lyran official attributed space mines to the destruction of the 4th Lyran Guards, 1st and 2nd Skye Rangers and 15 armor and infantry regiments.  Major Chun returned to Apollo and reported the success of "operation timebomb".  President Jacob Durant was pleased with the success.  He then gave the commander of the 34th Republican Commando Squadron a vital job "Major Chun, this next assignment will not be to your liking but it must be done.  You and your remaining teams must escort and guard my wife and two month old child. also my sister and mother are to found and if nessacary forced to go with you.  i will not leave Apollo and the Durant family must survive to lead the Republic remnant if it is to survive.  Good luck and godspeed Major."

February 15, 2789

  President Jacob Durant sat in his Cyclops waiting for the Lyrans to counterattack.  It had been an exhausting four days of fighting, Shark Squadron was destroyed(1 Centurion Cruiser, 2 Barracuda Corvettes, 1 Swiftling Destroyer) along with the 458th fighter wing and most of 67th Interceptor Wing. Over 45 dropships were lost defending Apollo and over three Militia BattleMech Regiments were destroyed.  4 infantry Regiments and 5 Armor regiments were left of 25 total.   The lyran were paying for every inch with their blood, the 6th and 14th Skye Rangers were desimated, 5th Lyran Guards were reduced to a Battalion, the remnants of the 1st and 3rd Arcturan Guards were  combined to form a provisional reinforced battalion.  Of 24 infantry and armor regiments only 11 remained.  All that was left for Apollo defense force was a cobbled regiment of Mechs with infantry and armor support.

February 16, 2789

  Hauptman Freidrich Heiderman surveyed the battlefield, broken machines littered the ground along with dead infantry everywhere.  A couple of corpman hurried past him carrying a wounded soldier, Freidrich searched for his xo and found him debriefing some mechwarriors "So your lance advanced toward the remaining Rim World forces encountering light resistence then the two remaining Rim Lances opened fire and took down mechwarrior Jagger and you returned fire striking the Cyclops and you think you hit it engine and it exploded taking out three mechs and knocking down two more and you continiued to fire unitl there was no return fire correct?" asked XO Hanson

"Correct sir.  we then proceeded to push foward and allow the infantry to follow up and secure the area.  We began to scout around and found no more Republicans and began a search pattern."

while the scout mechs established their search patterns and the medium lances began to establish a defensive line, a squadron of 12 mechbuster aerofighters came screaming out of the sky and shattered the two medium lances and destroyed three platoons of infantry before they left.  Our scout lance returned empty handed and was promptly chewed out by the survivng seargent for not finding the aerofield.

Newly Appointed Grand Marshall of the Armies Nancy Papparon waited for the jumpship to release the dropship.  it was a long trip and she hoped it wasnt for naught.

Newly elected president Sally Durant took stock of the Rim Worlds and what was left, 23 worlds out of hundreds, 2 heavily damaged Mech divisions, 1 badly mauled infantry division, 1 MID that was active on paper, and 1 jump infantry division that guarded the deep periphery remaining worlds of the republic.  and 6 indepent regiments.    and one warship squadron left of 3.

She faced a daunting task of rebuilding the armed forces of the Republic and keeping out invaders from the Innershpere.   Her first order was to initiate a draft of anyone over the age of 18 to serve 4 yr tour of duty,  with the only exceptions of an only child in the family, just recently married, or not a citizen of the Republic.

As 2790 rolled in, the much reduced Rim Worlds out look was bleak.   out of several squadrons of warships they only had 4 left(3 squadrons thought lost in the Terra Coup found their way home).  Out of 5 mechyards none were here in the deep periphery territory.   Out of shipyards and other industries none were left.   So her first act was to inact legislation to rebuild all lost industry.   First she inacted a ancient plan from 20th century she recreated the New Deal to provide relief for the unemployed, recovery of the economy, and reform of the economic system.   First she had the goverment begin building new mechyards, building of power plants and general goods plants.   she set in motion for mining of preciouse mineral and ores to build these new factories and shipyards.  She recreated the Work Projects Administration to build public buildings and roads.  She created the Arts Adminastration to preserve the historical documention of the Republic and to reimurse the people into its ancient greek roots.

   the fruits of the "New Deal" was begining to show results.   A new 'Mech Plant was built on Crotia, the Crotia Shipyards were procceding on schedual, several new factories had been bult across the Republic, including Clothing, Food Proccesing, Several Vehicle Factories and Workmech Factories.  The Economy was climbing out of its depression, 1 Drachma=45 Kroner.

June 2820
45 yr old Sally Durant stepped down from the presidency,  Jason Durant II was overwhemingly voted in.  As a trained field commander in the 1st MID (Lieutenant Colonel), he promised continued social progress and economic recovery.  as well as military recovery.     As his first act of president, Jason sent the 3rd and 4th BMD and 4th MID to retake outlying worlds from the lyrans.   unfortunately he did not send warship support.  sending the 3rd and half of the 4th BMD to Newton Square, and the 4th MID with the other half of the 4th BMD to Barcelona.   it was a rout.   the corvettes the lyrans stationed at these two worlds (2 apiece) and a sizeable air defense (1 aero regiment per planet), the invasion fleet didnt have a chance.   launhing their own fighters against the lyran defenders the Republic forces were shattered by the combined firepower of the fighters and warships.  at Newtone Square the elements of the 4th BMD were destroyed before they even touched down, being destroyed in their dropships.

the shattered remnants returned home.   Jason promoted the Commander of the 3rd to Field Marshall of the Arny and the Commander of the 4th MID to overall Commander of the RRAF.     The few survivors of the 4th BMD were dispersed to other units.

31yr old Jason Durant II married a young Mechwarrior from his unit that he had been romaticaly involved with since his early days as a mechwarrior.  29yr old Jessica, her last name was unkown.  (Although she never revealed her maiden last name, this historian has been able to find sources to divulge her last name, Amaris!)

October 2821
    Jason Durant announced that his wife was pregnant and was due around june or july of next year.    46yr old Sally Durant died of unkown causes during the night and would be laid to rest saturday 2821.    After the debacle of the 2820, Jason turned his attention away from recapturing lost worlds to one of economic and growth of the existing worlds.    On Crotia he established the Rim Republic Military Acadamy to train the nessecary soldiers for infantry, mechwarrior and armor.  In space he established he Rim Worlds Naval Acadamy to train jumpship and dropship personnel.   planets he had a small acadamy for pilots of all air frames.     These projects would take minimum of 4 yrs per academy planetside and 8 yrs for the naval acadamy.
through the rest of the year the Republic was at rest, rebuilding their lost economy, rebuilding their armed forces, rebuilding the nation.
In the last wanning days of 2821 Jason announced that the 8th Republic Fusiliers were being reactivated.   Many in the Republic found this alone reason to celebrate.      Also progress was being made behind the scenes as black ops directed at searching out secret facilities of Amaris and secret Spaceyards yielded results.   Star's End proved to be a treasure trove for the Space yards they found.   4 full yards were discovered one Jumpship, one Dropship and 2 Warships (1,000,000 and 500,000 ton) facilities were found.   it would take years of careful work to tear down and transport them back to the republic.

throught 2821 and 2822 the Rim Republic was at peace.   occassionally a pirate would try to attack them but would be crushed by Republic warships and fighters.     At this time 3 Republic arms companies began producing laser rifles, laser pistols, needlers, portable small and medium laser gun mounts and bazookas.

a Scout Jumpship scouting areas of naval battles in the deep Periphery and former Republic worlds found two Texas Class Battleships.    jumping back to Coatia, the crew reported directly to the Naval Command.   rescue attempts we launched and after 7 months both ships were brought to the system.   Heavily damaged from the war both ships were examined to see if rebuilding them was fesible.   The first ship examined was the Idaho, she was in the best shape of the two with minimal structural damage.   the Mississippi was severally damaged with heavy structural damage and the loss of the bridge area.      Renaming them KILKIS (ex Mississippi) and LEMNOS (ex-'Idaho').  these two ships would be awaiting the building of the shipyards for repairs.

  Latter in the month a lone worker at the Star End while on break happend to find a cave.  upon entering the cave, he found a long tunnel man made leading down several hundred meters.   when he found the end of the tunnel he discovered a complete mechworks shop, mold, weapons tables, internal structures, armor.  everything you need to build Mechs.     running back up the tunnel the worker grabbed his boss dragged him down the tunnel, all the while the boss was screaming and cursing the worker out, when the boss saw what the worker found, it took a week for the surgeons to reattach his jaw.     after this amazing discovery the worker, a one Brice Kanaris, was made a hero of the Republic.    the workers at the Stars End Facility found 4 more such mechwork facilites.

a new tank design was put forth to the Central Command.   the design was based on the ancient American tank the "Shernan".    with an AC/5 and a LRM 15 w/one reload and two machine guns and a diesel engine, the design was given the go ahead for four prototypes.

45 tanks were being assembled by Republic Arms Limited.    the projected runs of the tank would be scheaduled for 40 tanks per month until all units whether they were front line or planetay milita were outfitted with these tanks.   projected time limit was 4-5 yrs with possible delays due to rebuilding units and or replacement unit for destroyed Republic Defense Force.

with the rebuilding of the shattered forces of the Republic underway, peace seemed to settle over the remnants of the Republic when news of the death of Richard Steiner and the rise of Marcus Steiner as Archon.     Zack Casey rose to overall Command of the Armored Divisions.  he started out as a lowley private in a Apollo tank Regiment that was reduced to a lance duing the hellish fighting during the evacutaion.   during the intervening years he continued to prove his worth.  rising to Colonel over a tank regiment in the 1st Armored Division.    then was promoted to General over the Brigade then to Major General over the Division.   In the last months of 2823 Jason was lookiing for someone reenergize the R.A.F. and Zack was picked to be the man,  at 52 he was now the most senior commander in all of the Republic Armed Forces.

Modern Rim World Military ranks are based on Ancient Greek & Byzantine terminology, even though the ranks correspond to those of other Innerspere armies. For example, ancient hoplite unit of approximately 100 men, the lokhos, is today the name for a company of soldiers; its commander, as in ancient times, is a lokhagos, while his lieutenants are called hypolokhagoi - literally, "sub-captains" - a modern neologism. A sergeant is known as a lokhias. A tagmatarkhes (major) commands a tagma (battalion) and so forth. Thus, every officer or noncommissioned officer is in the land and air forces is generally named after the type of unit he commands, with the suffix -agos (from agein, "to lead") or -arkhos / arkhes (from arkhein, "to rule").

==Overview:==
     The Brasidas was build in response to Lyran Commonwealth testing of the
final stages of its new Commando design in what the Lyrans claimed were pirate
raids. At that time the Republic was relying on Wasps and Stingers for its
light mech forces and these were decisively out gunned by the Lyran design.
     The Rim Worlds military never managed to capture a complete Commando
during these 'raids' but did manage to salvage on of its arms. The SRM/wrist
mount was copied for the Brasidas.

==Capabilities:==
   Twin heavy Republic Hornet SRM racks are the main weapons on the mech. The
launcher design is similar to that used by the Commando. The arms are do not
have sufficient space to allow for an ammunition field to run from the torso
to the arms and so the ammunition bays are set in the arms as well.
    Two shoulder mounted medium lasers ensure that the design is not entirely
reliant on ammunition and are reliable weapons in their own right. They are
often employed when it is improbable that the missiles will be able to achieve
a solid lock and so avoid wasting ammunition.
    Like most RWR designs the mech packs heavy firepower but has poor heat
endurance.

==Battle History:==
   Dismissed by the SLDF as an overgunned and underheatsinked recon mech the
First Lord was content to leave well enough alone - especially as Star League
intelligence advised that this was to counter the Lyrans latest light mech
design. Given that the Stieners were not forth coming in obeying the First
Lords request to supply the design spec's for the Commando it seemed an
appropriate revenge.
   In time the Lyran came to respec this plucky in fighter. The SLDF were
incorrect in its assessment of its recon role - the Brasidas was designed to
be a skirmisher - nothing more. This is reflected in its poor sensor and
communication package, which was inferior to the standard of the era.

==Variants:==
    Before the Aramis uprising the RWR was made aware of a new SLDF design -
the Thorn. In repsonse to the possible threat the Brasidas was refitted for
long range combat by replacing the Hornet SRM racks with light Republic Hornet
LRM racks. The armour was increased when they found the internal struct was
strong enough for the addition of another ton of the standard Republic Light.
    Many of the mechs also recieved comminication and sensor upgrades as well
- bringing the mechs up to par with that fielded by the armies of the House
Lords


==Deployment==
    These were widely but thinly deployed thoughout the Republic. A few of the
more durable LRM armed Brasidas still can be found here and there though out
the Rim periphery regions and within Lyran border world militias.

Overview:

   The success of the Medusa program had a number of additional boons for the Rim Worlds Republic, as the trading program with the Draconis Combine continued with the Republic sending heavy hovercraft and Artemis Assault Tanks to the Combine. In return the University of Apollos Reverse Engineering team, which had been greatly expanded after the success of the Medusa, received the plans to the Terran Hegemony’s premier light scout mechs, the Mercury and the Mongoose with orders to either produce the technologies to make these advanced and capable mechs or to work their previous magic and again produce a Rim Worlds equivalent that would stand among the great mechs of the Republic.
   Not surprisingly Endo Steel, Beagle Probes, and other advanced components again proved to difficult to manufacture in large enough quantities to allow the mass production of the Mercury or Mongoose although a number of the designs were hand built using ‘appropriated materials’ however this time the Reverse Engineering Team struck a large rock as they attempted to create a battlemech capable of matching two of the most advanced designs in the Terran Hegemony’s arsenal.
   Faced with either waiting until factories could be produced to built advanced materials or working from the ground up and attempting to beat the Mercury and Mongoose with Rim Worlds ingenuity the scientists, engineers, and designers of the RET not surprisingly opted with the later knowning full well the wrath they would face if they were late.
   Three years later the first Shadow was performing field trials against its competitors where it showed its potential to shine.

Capabilities:
   
   Built to compete and beat the Mongoose and Mercury it is not surprising that the Shadow shares attributes from both Battlemechs, for example the Mongooses unusual leg system and the Mercury’s spread of laser weapons however the Shadow does have advantages over both designs in the form of the jump jets spread across its sleek back as well as its increased weapons load and variety of weapons.
   Capable of ‘only’ ninety-six kilometres per hour thanks to the 180 Fusion plant at the core of its thirty-ton body the Shadow is nowhere near the fastest design in existence but it is more than fast enough for what it what its role in combat was to be and with the added benefit of a 180 metre jump capability the Shadow is one of the most agile battlemechs available to the Rim Worlds Republic.
   Weaponry is quite heavy for a light battlemech with the Shadow carrying more firepower than the Mercury or Mongoose with a pair of Republic Optics Medium Lasers occupying the wrists while one pair of Small Lasers were placed in the torso alongside two machine guns and an SRM 2 launcher. Surprisingly despite this heavy weaponry the Shadow does not have matter heat problems due to the low heat production of the Machine Guns and light lasers
   Oddly though the Shadow is somewhat survivable for a light mech with five tons of armour sheathing its hull allowing it to take moderately heavy weapons fire and still go on.

Variants:

   There are multiple variants of the Shadow, ranging from the W3, which carries a Thunderstrike PPC on its shoulder to the SRM heavy W4.

Battle History:
   
   The Shadow served well in the conflicts of the Rim Worlds Republic with several notable battles on its list of honours. One example was the Recon of Pass 18A during the Battle of Somerset where a lance of Shadows were ambushed by a full company of Star League Regulars and yet managed to withdraw in good order after crippling the Regulars light elements, Mongoose and Mercury, and setting fire to a large stretch of forest.

== Overview ==

   Doctrine 23A emphasised survivability of dropships of the Rim Worlds Republic as well as heavier armour and better weaponry. However for some ships this would have less effect on them than on others, one of the most effected was the Tender class Cargo Hauler.
   First built in the early 25th century the Tender would lead a cursed life as its slow speed and complete lack of weaponry left it little more than a big bulls eye for pirates and the design slowly slipped into disfavour with dropship captains, yet the design survived an indication of the Rim Worlds spirit and the desperate need for resources.
   The new doctrines however would go some way to improving the Tender, however there was only so much you could do for a design that was never meant to see combat.

== Capabilities ==

   Built to carry the cargo needed to supply the larger vessels of the fleet and to provide the Rim Worlds Republic with a dedicated merchant vessel, thus the Tender was built to be the cheapest and most resource efficient design possible to allow more resources to be poured into the Rim Worlds military.
   Weighing in at a nice round two and a half thousand tons, the Tender is one of the smallest dropships in existence and one of the slowest with its small Spitfire engines providing barely enough thrust to outrun a Behemoth in open space and its broad frame providing as much room for cargo as possible at the expense of weaponry and crew quarters to the point that Tenders are completely unarmed and often ran with a bare minimum of crew (Legends say that in the heyday of the Rim Worlds Republic some Tenders were crewed only by their captains because the small ship was so easy to drive).
   However this does have a bonus, as the Tender is one of the most weight efficient cargo carriers available with fully two thirds of its weight devoted to cargo space in three large bays in the vessels belly while an incredibly thick armour belt protects the vessel (Some captains are known to have complained about the Tenders lack of weaponry, many removed armour from their vessels to add a bare minimum of asteroid defence guns to their ships).
The cost cutting measures also has the additional benefit for the Tender that in the end the ship was found to cost less than some Battlemech companies at the tiny price of 74,000,000 C-Bills a small enough price that the Rim Worlds Merchant Guilds often purchased assault dropships to guard whole fleets of the cheap litter Tender class.

== Deployment ==
 
   The Tender was produced in large numbers only because of its tiny price tag which allowed it to find a modicum of popularity in the merchant guilds, however the designs slow speed, lack of weapons and cramped quarters meant that the ship never really found favour among captains and because a favourite target of pirates.
   Very few tenders are known to exist, most were sold for scrap after the Amaris Coup however several are known to still operate in the interior of the Lyran Commonwealth where the threat of pirates is significantly reduced.

== Overview ==

   Originally built as a faster, military version of the Tender, the Aerodyne Kukri by the end of its design cycle became what the Tender always wanted to be. A fast, lethal assault vessel capable of taking on all comers and giving a good fight to larger vessels all by itself, in effect it became the Rim Worlds Republic’s main raider.
   The design for the Kukri was originally meant to provide the Rim Worlds Military with a small cargo carrier for outer rim cargo runs, however the design quickly took on a life of its own as various Tender captains began to inject their opinions into the design giving it thicker armour, a larger engine and most importantly a large weapons load capable of downing some of the massive vessels used by the Star League Defence Force.
   In the end the Kukri became the smallest military dropship in the Rim Worlds Republic and was assigned as the Rim Worlds first choice for raiding duties.

== Capabilities ==
 
   Built on an aerodyne form of the Tenders chassis, the Kukri weighs in at twenty five hundred tons, giving the designers ample tonnage to work with. First among the Captains Guild protests to the Tender was its small engine that restricted the design to 2Gs or less in most situations, a problem that the designers themselves could see was a problem and promptly remedied in the Kukri by upgrading the Tenders Spitfire engines to the larger Republic Firestreams.
   Next up on the protests and objections sheet was the Tenders lack of weaponry which although not much of a problem for civilian craft, would be immediately fatal to any military craft, although the designers response was somewhat over the top when they mounted more weaponry than some Assault Dropships and upgraded the main armour belt to survive small Naval Grade weapons fire.
   Lastly was the Tenders inability to carry military forces, requirement on the Kukri program, although the Tenders cargo bays were capable of carrying some military forces they had to be stacked in like crates. To this end the designers gave the Kukri the ability to carry a Rim Worlds combined arms company, a Battlemech Lance, two lances of light hovercraft and a full infantry lance, a force that when deployed in combat, was both deadly and well suited to raiding. Two hundred tons of cargo in the last remaining remnant of the Tenders cargo bays supplied these forces for a good long time.

== Deployment ==
   Kukris found massive popularity with the Rim Worlds Military, the Navy even refitted some as boarding and air supremacy vessels while the Army used the well rounded dropship as a carrier for some of the Rim Worlds Combined Arms brigade (Although using a force of Kukri to move regiments worth of equipment was a logistical nightmare the tough little Kukris often managed to get more forces to the ground with fewer losses than the larger designs like the Great Sword and Scimitar) and more than one raid has been successful thanks to the well rounded attack power of the Kukri.

== Overview ==

   The Rim Worlds Republic was never known for naval supremacy, and in the early days of its existence lost more dropships to combat on average than any other great power of the time, although this could have been attributed to the weak armour on the converted merchant vessels and whatever dropship the Rim Worlds had managed to steal at the time it still led the Rim Worlds to new paths for their dropships.
Rim Worlds Naval Doctrine 23A, introduced in 2540, was designed to fix the Rim Worlds problem with dropship losses by introducing mandatory requires for heavier armour, better weapons and survivability at all costs, however what it did was more than anyone had expected as the Rim Worlds headed down new pathways with their dropship designs.
The Crossbow when launched from the Laiacona Dropship Yards in 2550 was the first new design to be created by the Rim Worlds under 23A and proved the new doctrines to be just what the Rim Worlds needed.

== Capabilities ==

   Built to cut down on Dropship losses in the quickest most ruthless way, the Laiacona engineers cut no corners on the Crossbow design and spent three full years researching the flaws of other designs and the problems that the Great Houses had encountered with their own dropships and came upon several unique pathways for the Crossbow.
   Weighing in at an incredible eight and a half thousand tons, the massive Aerodyne Crossbow was one of the largest vessels of her day and with her titanic drive unit was also one of the swiftest with nearly three Gs worth of acceleration giving her the ability to outrun numerous pirate vessels that prowled around the Rim Worlds Republic.
   Although it was unlikely the massive Crossbow would run, armed with a heavy battery of weaponry the Crossbow outgunned numerous smaller dropships with her dozen LRM 20s and twelve SRM 6s, four class 10 Autocannons and half dozen medium lasers while her speed enabled her to make the most of her firepower and fifty nine tons of armour allowed her to survive the return volleys. And this was before the Crossbow deployed its full wing of Republic Aerofighters from the two large bays in her belly.
   Surprisingly though for a Carrier, the Crossbow also served other functions with a thousand ton cargo capacity and large food and water stores allowing the Crossbow to serve as an impromptu cargo hauler or resupply ship for larger forces of Aerofighters.

== Deployment ==

   In all 20 Crossbows were built by the Rim Worlds Republic, serving well up until the Amaris Coup with only 1 lost to pirates after a suicidal pilot smashed his fighter into the dropships engines, and two lost to the Lyran Commonwealth, 1 after its steering failed it is accidentally rammed a Lyran Destroyer and the second during a minor border conflict when it was destroyed by a Venture class Heavy Cruiser.
   17 Crossbows were deployed during the Amaris Coup, each with full wings of Aerofighters, and together they proved a serious speed bump for General Kerensky as they served as mobile carrier groups and exacted bloody revenge on the SLDF with the class and their aerofighters clocking up nearly three dozen Warship kills and many hundreds of kills on smaller vessels and aerofighters. All in all they were the most successful Dropship in the Rim Worlds Republic during the Amaris Coup, however sadly none are thought to have survived the SLDFs campaign although recent reports from the Word of Blake place at least one in the Deep Periphery where it apparently has attacked them several times over the last few months.

   Overview:
   One of the oldest of the Rim Worlds Republics dropships, the Great Sword Class was built in the early 2500's as the Republics standard Mech carrier with a battalion of mechs plus aerofighters.
   Built around a set of massive Excelsior engines that were supposed to provide more thrust than any other engine around. Unfortunately these engines could only provide thrust enough to keep up with the slowest of the dropships, but due to the huge size and potential cost the engines were kept because in the words of the politician
'It would cost too much to have them replaced'. That it would require the entire ship being disassembled was also noted.
   For years they languished in obscurity, quietly shuttling battalions from one port to another, the Amaris Coup however proved devastating to the class, as the tyrant Stefan sent back Overlord class dropships freshly produced at the Terran Hegemony Shipyards that were far superior to the Great Swords. The once mighty ships were sent to the yards for scrapping.
   Then Kerensky invaded.
   With the Republics Dragoon regiments relocated to the Inner Sphere and Kerensky tearing through the Rim Worlds, Amaris sent as many of his Swords to the Hegemonys shipyards as possible. Refitted with new engines, they were expanded and rebuilt increasing both their speed and their capacity.
   The first ship off the list was the Longsword of Alexander; fully refitted she was sent back into the Republic to gather new warriors and supplies for Amaris as well as to get the blueprints back to the Republic.
   The Longsword never returned to the Hegemony, its jumpship, the Kieran vanished during the jump to Apollo.

Capabilities:
   The Great Sword is built around a set of titanic engines that weigh almost as much as a Rapier Class Dropship, the refitted version is capable of producing the same speed as the
Rapier this makes the Great Sword incredibly fast for its size as well as manueverable. However this does mean that the ship has a hard time avoiding collisions with small objects at high speed.
To compensate for this, the ship has a high threshold for damage, and the Armour belt is thicker than that for some SLDF warships enabling it to take hits from the small chunks of space junk that cause damage to dropships as well as rendering Aerofighter attacks pointless.
   In addition to its speed and armour, the Great Sword is equipped with an impressive weapons array capable of pounding opponents into submission armed with multiple missiles, autocannons, and energy weapons many smaller vessels would be well advised to steer clear of the heavier Great Sword.
   Carrying capacity has been maintained and even expanded. It is still capable of carrying the original Battlemech battalion, in addition the Great Sword carries a heavy vehicle company usually composed of Apollo MBTs and Demeter Support Vehicles. A full aerowing of support fighters and strike craft was also added to allow the battalions safe access to the landing zones although very few Great Swords carry a full compliment of aircraft due to the lack of Aerofighters in the Republic with many making do with six to twelve fighters. It also carries one thousand six hundred and fifty tons of cargo space allowing the battalions to stay in the field for months fully supplied.

   History:
   The Great Sword class has been an important asset to the Rim Alliance for over 500 years, fighting in many of the important battles of the Rim Worlds Republic and Rim Alliance during that time and serving with distinction.
   Notable was the battle of Apollo where several Great Swords managed to hold back the SLDF invasion for over several hours before being destroyed by the Soyuz class Cruiser Implacable.

   The Rim Worlds Republic has been known for many years as a major user of Armoured Vehicles and Infantry, indeed even after the Reunification War when many of the Rim Worlds Armoured Divisions were destroyed by the best and brightest of the Star League Defence Force and Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces the Rim Worlds continued to produce many of its fine armoured vehicles to augment its now growing supply of Battlemechs.
   However as with all troops these Armoured Vehicles needed transports to be able to react quickly to offensives and raids, however vehicle carriers are notoriously ill equipped for the modern battlefield for example the Colossus with its tissue paper armour and popgun armament is little more than a deathtrap for its compliment.
   To remedy this and to allow the Rim Worlds to bring its full force to bear on its enemies with little worry about their safety, the Rim Worlds Navy operating under Naval Doctrine 23A commissioned the Scimitar Class Dropship and since then has seen an incredible decrease in the number of vehicle crews and infantry squads lost to enemy Aerofighter actions.

== Capabilities ==

   The Scimitar is built with but one purpose in mind, to get its troops to the battlefield safely a task at which it excels with its awesome ability to sustain damage and still get to the battlefield safely with its ninety tons of Rim Worlds Heavy Plate allowing the Scimitar to take head on hits from heavy naval weaponry and continue on with little trouble although the ship is still not built to face Warships in combat. Backing up the heavy armour plating is the Scimitars heavy structural integrity, built to make sure that even after taking his the massive Spheriod dropship can still enter atmosphere safely and disgorge its troops.
   That brings us to the Scimitars next major point, its troop numbers, carrying space for a full company of Rim Worlds Assault Tanks as well as two supporting companies of strike hovercraft the Scimitar puts full armoured battalions onto the field and often in the most problematic locations for the enemy. As well the Scimitar carries twenty-four platoons of motorised infantry, two companies in the old Rim Worlds military, plus their support equipment and food supplies, which are often stored in the Scimitars titanic one thousand ton capacity cargo bay
   Thankfully all this troop capacity does not cripple the Scimitars ability to fight or fly with a huge quad set of RimTech Model 24s taking up almost the entire aft section and allowing it to accelerate to nearly three Gs in emergencies while the bow and sides are spotted with weapons turrets featuring an array of Class Ten Autocannons, medium lasers and a heavy spread of LRMs and SRMs that can defend the ship from even determined Aerofighter Squadrons.

== Deployment ==
   The Scimitar was deployed heavily by the Rim Worlds Republic, ships placed with any Regiment that needed to move its armoured vehicles and infantry around quickly meaning simply that each Rim Worlds Regiment often counted at least three Scimitars among its support vessels if not more in some of the Rim Worlds Heavy Armoured Brigades.
   However the presence of large numbers of the craft did not save the Scimitar from near extinction during the Amaris Coup as the ships fell to attrition more than anything as the Star League quickly learnt that Scimitars carried large numbers of men and were ill equipped to face even small warships in combat. However the Scimitars still gave a good accounting of themselves, notably the Scimitar class Saladin which rammed a Black Lion class Battlecruiser amidships and managed to destroy the ship when the Saladins ammo exploded and took the fusion reactor with it.

==Overview:==
     The Buccaneer has become one of the most popular cargo haulers ever
produced. Initially designed in the early 2700s as a military craft, the
Buccaneer failed to win a Star League contract for a ’Mech transport. The
vessel’s designers then made a few modifications to the Buccaneer and marketed
it as a merchant vessel.
     Three large cargo holds provide the Buccaneer's cargo space. Two
1,000-ton holds are located on either side of the fuselage, and the third
hold, situated above the transit drive, accommodates 300 tons. The two main
bays can be modified to carry up to 36 light vehicles.
     The standard 12-man crew, more than adequate for the vessel, occupy an
area directly forward of the cargo section, with each crew member in a
spacious single-occupancy room. The Buccaneer also has excellent recreation
and mess facilities, which make a tour on a Buccaneer one of the most
sought-after assignments in any Inner Sphere fleet. The Buccaneer’s command
deck is situated forward of the crew quarters. This deck is fairly cramped and
is usually used only for flight and weapon controls. Communications are
handled from a separate cabin directly aft of the bridge.
     At present, no company has launched an upgraded version of the Buccaneer
or announced plans to do so.
The RWR version did not increase the weapons load at all just more armor. The
use of only 2 door as opposed to 4 with the union class was considered a
limitation but because all the doors are the same and there is no increase in
weapons load the conversion ship is undetectable as a mech carrier and appears
to be a standard Buccaneer by any means of detection. The vessel is intended
to have escort vessels or appear to be bust a cargo ship. The ship can support
a full tech staff of 2 men per mech  making the design desireable from a mech
company commanders viewpoint.

== Overview ==

   Ah logistics, the bane of any military unit. An army may march at the will of its leaders but it only fights at the will of their bodies and the Camel Class FRS was built to make sure the Army and the Navy are still able to fight.
   Commissioned early in 2450 the Camel was to become the Rim Worlds main military cargo transport replacing the old and decrepit Buffalo class Cargo Transports which were never meant to face the sustained pressure of being a Military transport. The Camels large cargo hold, surprising weapons compliment and heavy armour (mandatory after Naval Doctrine 23A was put into effect) made the class quickly rise to the position of favoured military transport in the Rim Worlds Republic where it would remain until the Amaris Coup and the battles that followed destroyed almost all of the class.

== Capabilities ==

   The Camel, plain and simply, was meant to be the Rim World Republics first choice military cargo, blending durability with heavy armour and the ability to ward off pirates and House Raiders not to mention the obvious heavy duty cargo bay and large engines the Camel was meant to be everything a military unit could dream of for a Cargo Vessel.
   Mounting a triple set of RimTech engines, the Camel is capable of two and a half Gs acceleration so it is not going to set any speed records however it can still get cargo to the front and back quickly without much worry, although in the Periphery worry is a lightly used term due to pirates and raiders a threat that the Rim Worlds Military attempted to minimize with the Camels seventy tons of heavy armour plating as well as the heavy weapons turrets that spot the Camels hull threatening any encroaching craft with their array of medium bore Autocannons, multiple calibre lasers and massive missile batteries.
   What these weapons defend however is the sole purpose of the Camel. The nine thousand ton capacity Cargo Bay that allows the Camel to carry supplies enough to keep entire Rim Worlds Divisions in the field for months as well as keeping Rim Worlds Warships in the field with adequate supplies.
   As well the Camel carries a small infantry detachment with it for ground defence and to assist in the unloading of supplies on the ground, these men are often trained as marines or gunner on the Dropship and are able to assist during spaceflight thereby making the crews job easier.

== Deployment ==

   In the heyday of the Rim Worlds Republic, many Camels were deployed to keep the Rim Worlds military in fighting trim, often moving in small convoys for additional protection from pirates and raiders. However like many other vessels the Amaris Coup signalled the end of the heyday of the Camel Class as many were destroyed by SLDF warships and fighters in space or blown up on the ground by SLDF regulars or commando teams. Rumours persist that at least three were taken on the Exodus, however there is no evidence to back this up but there is still known to be at least two Camels that prowl around in the Deep Periphery and another in the service of the Hanseatic League.

== Variants ==
 
   There is one main variant of the Camel that removes much of its cargo space to mount grappling apparatus and naval repair equipment that allows it to act as a very large Tug or mobile repair station and Salvage vessel, it also carries twice the normal compliment of infantry for boarding actions or repair duties.

Republic-class dropships served as the main BattleMech transport of the Rim
Worlds Republic navy during the Amaris Coup, having been commissioned in 2721
as an attempt to outdo the Star League's new Union-class transport.

==Capabilities:==
As an intended improvement upon the Union, several features were added to the
Republic-class, necessitating a large increase in the size of the vessel.

Arrow IV systems were substituted for the Union's LRM system, giving the
vessel a longer reach in ship to ship combat as well as the ability to support
the BattleMech forces it carries in combat from a safe distance.

Cargo capacity was expanded greatly, allowing the Republic to carry more spare
parts than its predecessor, and a single small craft bay was added to allow
the integral marine complement to undertake limited boarding actions, or for
the rapid transfer of personnel. Finally, the entire crew section of the ship
was redesigned. Officers and crew now have individual cabins, with a number
of surplus cabins that are often claimed by the ship's MechWarriors and
Aerospace pilots when the ship is not carrying any additional command
personnel.

==Battle History:==
Fought in numerous conflicts of the Amaris Crisis. Several escaped or were
captured, and many were unaccounted for. It is possible that most surviving ships
either accompanied General Kerensky's Exodus or were destroyed during the
Succession Wars.

One of the most notable combats in recent years involving a Republic-class
vessel involved the Cynthia Amaris, which was used to spot for an experimental
missile fired from a Wolf Dragoons warship against a Lyran destroyer.

==Notable Vessels & Crews:==
The most famous Republic-class vessel in existance is undoubtedly the Cynthia
Amaris. This ship is well-known throughout the Inner Sphere as the Nadesico,
transport of a short-lived and tragic mercenary unit. Its appearance in the
movie "Bloody Monday: The Fall of the Shinzui Kitsunes" (Kohl Films of
Tharkad, ©3064) has made it one of the most famous dropships in recent
memory.

During it's long lifespan, the Cynthia Amaris has been known as the Gorgon,
the Reliant, the Valiant, the Black Hand, the Bloody Sword, and the Nadesico
before finally being restored to its original designation by the eccentric
Snords Irregulars, who are reported to have spent a great deal of money
acquiring the ship.

==Deployment==
No state is known to field the Republic-class dropship, though this could
simply be mis-identification on the part of enemy dropship crews and the
natural tendency of governments not to reveal their military assets.

Johnson Aerospace of Argyle, a noted manufacturer of civilian aircraft, is
reported to be negotiating a deal with Snord's Irregulars to commence
production of the Republic-class dropship for the Federated Suns as a flagship
line for their new military factory. There has been no word on whether or not
any agreements have been reached.

== Overview ==

   Living in the Periphery is dangerous to understate the obvious in the Rim Worlds Republic it was even more dangerous for the average citizen. The well-developed and widely spaced planets made for easy pickings for pirates and other forces and the long and tedious jump routes made jumpships even more vulnerable and the Rim Worlds lost many dropships and jumpships to pirates.
   Under Lady Terens Amaris, Naval Doctrine 23A addressed this problem by commissioning the creation of three new Jumpship classes tagged the Maru series after the several Merchant vessels of World War II era Japan
   The second class in the series the aptly named Trader was launched from the Apollo Jumpship Yards in 2563.

== Capabilities ==

   Never meant to be a combat vessel the Trader maintains the four asteroid defence large lasers used on the other Maru series vessels as its titanic jump drive disallows the ability to mount a substantial defensive screen although there are several more heavily armed variants. However the Trader mounts around fifty percent more armour than the Steamer and has both double the small craft capacity and double the cargo capacity.
   The Trader also carries twice the food and water and has much higher structural integrity than the Steamer, although nowhere near that of the Freighter.
   Four Docking Collars allow the Trader to carry entire regiments plus supporting elements, or barring that entire merchant fleets.
   Traders were the most common Jumpship in the Rim Worlds Republic.

== Deployment ==
   No one knows exactly how many Traders were made in the two centuries leading up to the Amaris Coup, but they proved to be exceedingly popular with the merchant guilds of the Rim Worlds.
   Although many Traders were destroyed in the Amaris Coup, Comstar records indicate almost twenty of the tough and durable designs survive to the present day, and rumours from ROM agents in the Word of Blake indicate that the Blakists have discovered several in the Deep Periphery that fled before they could contact or board them.

== Overview ==

   Living in the Periphery is dangerous to understate the obvious in the Rim Worlds Republic it was even more dangerous for the average citizen. The well-developed and widely spaced planets made for easy pickings for pirates and other forces and the long and tedious jump routes made jumpships even more vulnerable and the Rim Worlds lost many dropships and jumpships to pirates.
   Under Lady Terens Amaris, Naval Doctrine 23A addressed this problem by commissioning the creation of three new Jumpship classes tagged the Maru series after the several Merchant vessels of World War II era Japan
   The largest of the Maru series, the Freighter was launched in 2568 to the mass approval of the Rim Worlds Merchant Guilds its massive dropship capacity and several surprising additions making it an instant favourite on the border trade routes of the Republic.

== Capabilities ==

   Massing in at five hundred thousand tons the Freighter is one of the largest Jumpships ever produced, even outmassing some of the Warships found in the Rim Worlds Republic.
   Carrying one hundred and fifty tons of armour plate, the Freighter carries an incredible amount of armour for a Jumpship although this is understandable for a jumpship that carries six dropships and a full Aeroflight of medium fighters as it is designed to travel into the more dangerous trade routes and survive. Three hundred days worth of food and water make sure the Crew doesn’t starve, while five hundred tons of cargo capacity means that the Jumpship Crews have added incentive to get where they are going.

== Deployment ==

   With its large dropship load, and aerofighters, the Freighter was a popular ship of choice for Merchants in the Periphery although its cost prevented many from being built. Only one is known to still exist and that one is in the hands of the Magistracy of Canopus, however recently there have been sightings of at least two more vessels in the Deep Periphery. Who owns them is a mystery.

==Overview==

   Originally commissioned by the Rim Worlds Republic in 2550 to provide a multipurpose fighter that could defend the Rim Worlds from the growing and expanding Great Houses of the Inner Sphere, particularly the Lyran Commonwealth and Free Worlds League as well as to augment the Rim Worlds previous fighters which had been purchased from several of the Great Houses. However the Sprite would become one of the most expensive fighters in the Rim Worlds Republic, taking ten years and costing more than three times what was originally quoted before the first combat ready Sprite rolled off the production line on Apollo and into the waiting Rim Worlds Interceptor Wings.
   However despite the overly long design period and the high cost problems still managed to slip in as Apollo Interstellar repeatedly employed cost cutting measures and embezzled the funds meant for the Sprite, acts that would come back to haunt them when their next fighter, the Harpy, proved to be a liability in combat due to their computer system.

==Capabilities==

   Considering the titanic cost and the length of time that went into designing the Sprite the engineers who designed the class are lucky they were not shot for the time and money they wasted designing the Sprite.
   Built to serve in every possible role imaginable, the Sprite is relatively fast and manoeuvrable as well as being well armed and surprisingly cheap allowing it to master the roles of interceptor and escort.
   The bulk of the Sprites firepower is a massive Republic Thunderstrike PPC, a model that was in development with the Sprite and is still considered experimental after several models exploded during field tests. This Cannon provides all of the Sprites long range firepower and is augmented by two of the oldest models of Republic Optics Medium lasers which provide good in close firepower although its lack of rear firing weaponry and heavy use of energy weapons create several drawbacks to the design, although there were benefits as well.
   The Sprites armour was a good match for her firepower, light but effective for her weight with five tons of armour sheathing the Sprite pilots could take heavy hits in dogfights and go back for more.
   The Sprites major flaw however is in her computer systems. Used as a cost cutting measure as well as to speed up the design process the Apollo Computer Systems (APS) targeting and tracking system is prone to breaking down at the worst moment possible and the Apollo On Line (AOL) comm. system is frequently beset by poor connections and numerous problems with static.
     
==Variants==

   There is one known variant of the Sprite; which switches out the PPC for another four Medium lasers and extra heat sinks. This variant is well known in ground support wings for brutal strafing runs.

==Deployment==
   
   For nearly forty years the Sprite was the only Aerofighter produced by the Rim Worlds Republic and though it was supplemented or replaced in many of its roles it still served well up until the Amaris coup where many of the ships were destroyed by the faster and better armed ships produced by the SLDF.
   However some of these ships were put into mothballs and it is not unusual for an old Sprite to be returned to active duty by a lucky Prospector.

==Overview==

   The second fighter developed by the Rim Worlds Republic, the Harpy looks on paper to be a well rounded medium interceptor and workhouse however what that doesn’t tell you is the Apollo Interstellar cost cutting measures that turned what looked to be a promising craft for the growing Rim Worlds Navy into an expensive blunder.
    The most obvious problem is the computer system; the Apollo On Line (AOL) comm. system behaves like the internet company that shared its initials in the 21st century as it is slow, unreliable and has a failure rate three times that of any other comm. system. As well the Apollo Hunter targeting system was prone to freezes and other random malfunctions that made it a liability in combat as was found after several particularly devastating pirate raids.
   In the end, the board of Apollo Interstellar was tried for sabotage and treason by the Republic High Court and were exiled. The company’s assets were seized by the Rim Worlds Republic where they remained until Laiacona Aerospace absorbed what remained of the company as a reward from the Republic for good service.
   Fortunately for the Harpy aerofighter, it took only a simple refit of the entire computer system to restore the Harpy to combat readiness and the combat model Harpy took to the skies once more where it found a home in the Republic ground support wings and Interceptor squadrons assigned to the Republic battle fleets.

==Capabilities==

   Though the Harpy’s computer system may be a piece of junk, the Harpy is an excellent medium Aerofighter. Capable of higher than average speeds for her weight class, the Harpy carries enough armour to survive in combat while its weaponry can make sure that the Harpy’s opponent.
   First amongst the Harpy’s weaponry is the twin Republic Optics Heavy Lasers in the nose, combining firepower with range and the endurance that comes with laser weapons these large lasers provide a good punch to anything in front of the Harpy, which when its speed is factor in is most fighters.
   The Harpy’s backup punch is provided by four Republic Medium Lasers, two in each wing, these weapons have been heavily tested in some of the most trying conditions and have passed with flying colours, and though these weapons are short ranged they provide lethal firepower with only a small heat burden on the Harpy. Another pair of these lasers are mounted in the Harpy’s tail just above the engine and cover the Harpy rear against any fighter that gets behind it.
   However all these weapons provide one large problem, and that is the amount of heat they can produce when fired altogether to remedy this, the designers placed in seventeen heat sinks which can keep the Harpy cool in combat so long as the pilot is careful with the amount of firepower he unleashes.
   But there is one glaring flaw in the Harpy, and that is the computer system, which is prone to astounding amounts of crashes. Based off the old Hegemony Door Operation system, this system has been known to freeze the wings in odd positions, randomly eject pilots and flick the engines on and off at odd intervals as well the Targeting System and Comm. system are both considered unreliable and have a myriad of problems.   
     
==Variants==

   There is one known variant of the Harpy, the HA 4R which completely removes the computer system and replaces it with the more reliable Laiacona Aerospace Star Hunter. All HA 3R Harpy’s were eventually refitted to match the HA 4R.

==Deployment==
   
   The HA 3R Harpy saw much combat and many losses in its thirty years of operations before it was superseded by the 4R and phased out of the Rim Worlds Aerowings. The HA 4R would serve up to the Amaris Coup but would never gain any real popularity with pilots despite having a good combat record.

   Deployed initially in 2645, the Angel class medium fighter was the pride of the Rim Worlds Republic, blending speed, armour and firepower in a sixty-five ton package the Angel would survive over a hundred years as the Rim World Republics standard medium fighter with a list of battle honours that would do any class proud.
   Constructed at the Laiacona Aerospace facility in the Periphery Provinces of the Rim Worlds Republic the Angel showcased the best of the Rim Worlds technology and also that they were capable of constructing advanced technology fighter craft better than the previous blunders like the Harpy Medium Fighter and Sprite Light Fighter.

==Capabilities==

   Built on a reinforced 65-ton chassis, the Angel fits well into the Rim Worlds Naval Doctrines, swift, durable and capable of heavy firepower. Powered by a Republic 260 power plant, the Angel is capable of over 3Gs of acceleration as well as some impressive feats of manoeuvrability. As well sheathed by just over ten tons of heavy armour the Angel can take a heavy pounding before retiring for repairs.
   Her weapons however guarantee that her opponent won’t be going anywhere, with a Republic Arquebus type 10 Autocannon taking up most of the room in the Angels nose, flanked on either side by medium lasers give the Angel good ranged firepower able to shred many light fighters. Augmenting these are two Republic Stinger missile racks, equipped with eighteen shots each this two LRM 10 racks give the Angel most of her ranged firepower while another pair of medium lasers, one under each wing, provide more close in firepower. Another medium laser is positioned in a turret mount just over the engine and covers the tail.
   However all of this firepower comes at a price, and that price is heat efficiency with the Angel only carrying eleven single heat sinks, although several craft were upgraded with double heat sinks when Amaris took the Star League throne those craft were mercifully rare and many were destroyed along with the rest of the class during the Amaris Coup.

==Variants==

   There are two known variants of the ANG 3L Angel, the first the ANG 4L carries eleven double strength freezer units capable of keeping the ANG 4L cooler for much longer.
   The second the ANG 3R carries twin Republic Optics Large Lasers in place of the Arquebus Autocannon as well as several more heat sinks. This variant is often deployed for extended missions away from supply lines.

==Deployment==

   Angels were deployed in large numbers up till the Amaris Coup, often assigned to front line Battlemech Regiments like the 44th Dragoons, Angels were assigned to ground support missions and CAP duties often and excelled in these roles. As well several naval wings like the 2nd Stardancers (The White Angels) were formed exclusively of these Aircraft and performed well in missions.
   The Amaris Coup however proved to be the Angels undoing with very few surviving past the end of the war, and only those units that fled with the 3rd Rim Worlds Fleet managed to keep their Angels intact.

    The Rim Worlds Republic developed the RWR PH2 X Phoenix partly to demonstrate their newfound strength, partly to create an Aerofighter than could serve as an escort and strike aircraft, and partly to show that they could do better. Presuming that war would eventually come to the Rim Worlds, the designers spared no expense in the design and neither did the Laiacona Aerospace yards that continued to produce Phoenix till the Amaris coup.
   All in all it took the designers and engineers just over two years to design and field the first Phoenix, although several rather serious problems were discovered during testing and it took another year and a half before the Rim Worlds fielded combat ready Phoenix in combat.
   By 2612 full production had begun, and the Phoenix flowed into waiting Rim Worlds assault wings.

==Capabilities==

   Despite the massive cost and speed that went into designing the Phoenix, the engineers at Laiacona Aerospace still managed to produce a tough and durable assault Aerofighter which at the time of its introduction was one of the most formidable aerofighters in existence.
   The core of its firepower was two wing mounted Republic Thunderstrikes, these highly reliable PPCs were thoroughly tested on old model Sprite class aircraft before their use on the Phoenix and proved to be an excellent heavy punch for the fighter. Backing these up are the main long range punch for the Phoenix, two Stinger long range missile racks in the nose of the aircraft which with forty racks of reloads between them provided greater endurance in combat than many other craft could match. The last piece of the Phoenix’s firepower came in the form of half a dozen Republic Optics medium lasers
   The Phoenixs armour matches its firepower, with seventeen and a half tons of standard heavy plate protecting the Phoenixs heavy frame, while its 285-rated fusion engine give the Phoenix average speed and manoeuvrability.
   The biggest flaw in the Phoenix is probably its high heat curve, which its twenty-four heat sinks struggle to control. The only real solution for this problem has been salvo fired weaponry although many pilots don’t seem to mind the problem as veteran pilots and those from other states find that the Phoenixs cooling system is superior to most other fighters which rely on lasers for their main weaponry.
   A second flaw is in the computer system, which occasionally freezes or speeds up on odd occasions. This has been known to cause some unique problems for Phoenix pilots who have been known to find their fighters flying dead straight or turning shaper than some fighters half their weight.
   
==Variants==

   There is one known variant of the Phoenix; the PH3, which cuts down on the number of heat sinks and replaces the single heat sinks with double strength freezers and an SRM battery in the aft.

==Deployment==
   
   For the early years of the Phoenix’s life, the Republic turned out the aircraft as fast as they could be constructed at the Laiacona yards. And as a result of the destruction of records before, during and after the Amaris Coup no one has an accurate number for how many Phoenix were produced. Best estimates put the number at around five hundred, although some guesses go up to the two thousand mark.
   These Phoenixs, however many there were, still found a home in the Republics Assault Wings and in Air Supremacy squadrons attached to individual regiments.
   The Amaris Coup is believed to have destroyed a significant number of these fighters in combat, however it is not unknown for a Phoenix to merely turn up in the worlds of the Inner Sphere.

Overview:

First constructed in the year 2510, the Barracuda class Corvette was the mainstay of the Rim Worlds Republic fleet until the Amaris Coup and Kerensky’s war of Liberation destroyed the class in battle after battle where its weak armour and firepower was forced to stand up to swifter and better armed Terran Warships such as the Whirlwind and Essex class destroyer.
Created primarily as the Republics standard patrol and picket ship, the Barracuda was meant to serve as the Vincent, Magpie and Vigilant did for the SLDF with a weapons array and engines capable of suppressing the pirates that plagued the Republics periphery border as well as serving as an extended deployment vessel, in this role it fails miserably.
Relegated to system defence and guarding the Republics shipyards and jump stations, the Barracuda found a new lease on life when Stefan Amaris sold a modified variant with a smaller drive to several relatively unknown pirate bands on the Republic border in exchange for materials captured from the Great Houses as well these ships were given in the trust that the ships would not be used against the Republic (The 4th Fleet, assigned to the Republics Periphery border was a visible reminder of what the punishment for stabbing the Republic in the back was). This variant contained a much smaller drive and two docking collars that gave the ship much needed endurance away from port, which attracted many pirates. These ships, nicknamed Piranhas would plague realms such as the Free Worlds League and Lyran Commonwealth till the 28th century.

Capabilities:

Built to engage and destroy pirates and other light raiders, the 175,000 ton Barracuda carries the oversized Republic C7 drive system, although this allows the Barracuda to travel at speeds up to 3Gs in short bursts while its mediocre fuel tanks give her fair endurance if she remains in the same system. This drive however has one titanic problem which is evident in the Barracudas miniscule cargo bay and lack of docking collars, barely capable of sustaining herself for two weeks away from port, the Barracudas found themselves stuck at jump point stations where they could easily dock to pick up parts, food and ammunition without having to transfer it all over with the Cudas pair of shuttles.
Armament is almost identical to the Star Leagues Vigilant class corvette (Editors Note: The Barracuda is based upon several former Terran Vigilants purchased by the Republic around 2432 when the Vigilant was phased out in favour of the Vincent Class Corvette) with four light Naval Autocannons spread across the bow to provide the Barracudas main killing firepower, which was barely capable of keeping dropships and corvettes away from the ship. A pair of medium Naval Lasers back up the autocannons providing a defence against dropships while twin Barracuda Missile Launchers and a spread of standard large lasers provide anti-fighter defence.
Armour is provided by 120 tons of standard reinforced steel plating focused mostly towards the front of the craft, however no location other than the fore of the ship is capable of taking more than a light Naval Autocannon hit without internal damage as Republic captains found out when SLDF Corvettes danced into their rear and destroyed their ships in one or two shots.
The Barracuda also carries 12 aerofighters, generally Republic built Harpies or Angels, and two shuttles which are the only ways off the ship aside from the lifeboats.

The Piranha variant carries a substantially smaller drive, as well as two docking collars and another 2000 tons of fuel. Its resulting larger cargo capacity made it very popular with pirates.

Deployment :

In the years from 2510 till 2600, forty Barracuda class corvettes were launched from the shipyards over the Republic provincial capital of Laiacona, however over their 200 years of service twenty-six of these vessels were lost or destroyed in border conflicts. At the beginning of the Amaris Coup only fourteen of the Barracudas were left, with seven of the vessels forming the 4th Corvette squadron over Star’s End alongside the Raven Class Frigate Seagull and the Destroyers Republic and Ares.
Of these ships, only two Barracudas would survive when an SLDF battle group ran across the ships at Stars End near the end of the Invasion of the Republic, most of the ships were destroyed when the Black Lion class Harmony closed to short range and opened up with its heavy naval autocannons. The last two, Mackerel and Salmon surrendered to escape destruction and despite being in good condition, were scraped to provide spare parts for the SLDF warships. Another Barracuda was captured over Apollo by SLDF marines after a weeklong chase across the system, which resulted in three destroyed dropships and the loss of the Jumpship Great Oak. This ship, the Trevally was put into mothballs over Apollo before being salvaged by the Lyran Commonwealth. It was lost during the 1st Succession War to a minor raid by Combine forces.
The remaining six of the ships were gathered over Terra by Stefan Amaris in the months leading up to the liberation of Terra, at picket force to guide in the Caspar drones and were never meant to see combat except as a last line of defence. However the destruction of the Drones also lead to the destruction of two of the last Barracuda, the remaining four surrendered when the Aegis Class Aurora executed a Crazy Jane manoeuvre and jumped into their aft and the rest of her battlegroup closed in on them.
These vessels surprisingly were not scrapped by Kerensky but rather taken with him on the Exodus as prisons or confining cells for those of the SLDF who committed crimes during the trip to the Kerensky Cluster. Later they were mothballed along with several Swiftling class Destroyers that were claimed by the Goliath Scorpions for their Cache fleet.
The Barracudas are currently under consideration for renovating and reactivation as part of Clan Blood Spirits understrength Blood Galaxy. However many Blood Spirits see their use as dishonourable and this may yet doom the class.

Overview:
By 2685, the Barracuda class corvette was really beginning to show its limitations as the Rim Worlds standard picket and pirate hunter. Its small size, low cargo capacity and weak armament limited its ability to perform in its chosen roles, thus the Rim Worlds suffered heavily from bandits and warship equipped pirates in the years after the introduction of the Barracuda.
However the leadership of the Rim Worlds was not blind to the problems with the class, and in the years leading up to 2670 the construction of a new Frigate class vessel capable of serving as both an escort and as a picket ship was ordered by Selanta Amaris. The result, launched on the 8th of July 2679 was the Raven class Frigate.
Easily meeting the requirements put forward by Selanta Amaris, these vessels combined speed with heavy firepower as well as the state of the art RB24A/TC11C Sensor suite, an exceptionally powerful targeting and tracking system that was introduced way ahead of its time and served very successfully.

Capabilities:
The Raven Frigate class was designed as both an escort for the Phalanx class Battleship and a replacement for the Barracuda class corvette, as such it is powered by four Starhunter Drives (Practically a copied version of the drive units from several frigates used by the Great Houses) which gives the Raven the ability to accelerate up to 3Gs for periods. In addition to its ability to dodge damage with its powerful engines and agility, the Raven also carried 920 tons of Ferro Aluminium armour allowing it to take several hits from the heaviest weaponry before it was disabled.
For weaponry the Raven clearly outmatches many ships with her batteries of Medium Naval PPCs and NAC/30’s providing horrendous firepower in her broadsides without trading range for hitting power. Fourteen Barracuda missile tubes are mounted along the front of the Raven, as well as the Rim Worlds standard Large Laser Anti Fighter batteries, which are scattered around the ship in dual turrets. Lastly sixteen NL 45s are spread around the Raven giving coverage from dropships and smaller warships.
The Raven class also carries four Docking collars and 12 Aerofighters, allowing them to function somewhat as Transports if in dire need as well as giving them access to the endurance the Cargo Hauler dropships can bring.

Deployment:
All in all sixteen Ravens were deployed by the Rim Worlds Republic, generally one was assigned to each of the Rim Worlds Phalanx and Snow Kite class vessels with the remaining eight assigned to patrols of the Rim Worlds borders to ward off pirate attacks.
Despite being highly successful in stopping pirate attacks the Ravens proved somewhat undergunned and were mostly destroyed during Kerensky’s long march to Terra. However two fled with the 3rd Fleet when it went AWOL during the last year of the War of Liberation, and another four were captured by Kerensky during various battles in the Hegemony and in the Republic.
All four of these Ravens would travel with Kerensky on the Exodus, where two would be activated by Rebel forces and were eventually destroyed by massed assaults by the Snow Ravens and Cloud Cobras. The other two were activated as part of the Not Named Clans cache fleet, and used to delay the Wolves long enough for several ships to escape. Of these one was destroyed by the Wolves warships, the other was captured after it was stripped of parts when its KF drive failed a mere jump from the Kerensky cluster.
It was destroyed by the Wolves as target practice.

Overview:

Introduced in 2675 by the Rim Worlds Republic to escort it’s Phalanx Battleships and Snow Kite class Carriers, the 750,000 ton Centurion class Cruiser became the mainstay of the Republics escort fleets with its massive array of antifighter weaponry, exceptional speed and heavy armour making it a fine ship in its own right. However its flaws would eventually be its undoing, as the War against Amaris turned the majority of the SLDF fleet against the class.

Capabilities:

   With roots in several of the SLDFs highly successful frigate class vessels the Centurion was constructed to safeguard larger vessels such as the Phalanx from aerofighter assault as well as from smaller vessels, the Centurion carries state of the art Starcutter Drives capable of pushing the titanic vessel up to one and a half Gs for short periods making it as fast as the Cameron Class Battlecruiser as well as allowing it to keep up with the majority of larger ships generally available to the Great Houses. This also gives the vessel good tactical flexibility in combat when in the company of larger vessels as its speed enables it to be redeployed from one area of the battlefield to another with speed and ease.
This speed allowed the Centurion to engage in its primary task, destruction of inbound fightercraft and dropships. Armed with one of the largest arrays of antifighter weaponry found on in ship in service, it gave the Centurion to neutralise the threat posed by ships such as the Vengeance class Dropship with their massive fighter wings. Composed of multiple types of weaponry this battery has the advantage that when a fighter gets past one layer of weaponry it still has to content with the rest of the Centurions weaponry.
Long ranged firepower is composed of 40 massive Long Range missile racks each capable of firing twenty missiles which can put enough ordinance in the air to scare off small dropships, supported by 48 Magna Hellstar PPCs this provides a tremendous punch at long range.
Medium range is just as well covered with another 40 Large Lasers providing accurate firepower with 40 SRM 6 packs backing them up and shredding armour off any craft stupid enough to brave the Centurions barrages.
Short Range is possibly the most deadly for any craft, as sixty Republic built AC 20s come online. Capable of destroying fightercraft in one shot, these weapons are worthy of respect and more than one pirate corvette that came too close to a Centurion has found itself screwed after those cannons came online. Lastly is the ‘point defence’ which to put it simply is eighty medium lasers.
However this antifighter firepower did come at a cost, as the Centurion is somewhat lacking in capital scale weaponry and that it has was chosen to compliment its fighter shredding firepower. 16 Medium Naval PPCs spread across the bow and broadsides provide most of the firepower with twenty class 10 Naval Autocannons along the bow and broadsides providing a backup punch. 8 barracuda missile launchers built off plans stolen from the SLDF were placed along the front of the ship, aimed at scaring off ships at extreme range, while thirty Naval Lasers scattered across the sides and aft of the Centurion keep dropships away from nearby ships.
The Centurions armour is also impressive, with over 1,000 tons of Ferro Aluminium armour providing greater protection than found on some battleships of the day, in addition two Docking Collars and bays for eighteen Republic Aerofighters put the Centurion into a secondary role as a carrier, however the titanic Snow Kite class Carrier performed many of the Rim Worlds carrier duties and the Centurions rarely carried a full load of Fighters.

Deployment:

However for the first few years of the Centurions service most of the foes encountered were Pirate Corvettes and Destroyers. Which often ran from the sight of a Rim Worlds battlegroup, only a few battles allowed the Centurion to distinguish itself from other classes, and none are truly remembered. Most of the time the four Centurions on patrol duty found themselves relocated to defending static locations like Apollo or the Star’s End Shipyards.
When the Amaris Conflict came around, the 12 ships of the Centurion class was on the forefront leading attack forces of Destroyers and Frigates into the midst of Kerenskys Fleets while they concentrated on annihilating larger ships. The Centurion class Demonic was responsible for the most dramatic of these encounters in the skies over New St Andrews.
In the midst of battle Demonic and three Raven class Frigates leapt free of the raging battle, having been assigned to protect the Stefan Amaris, however with the mighty ship taking volleys from the Fireball and Hellgate despite several Swiftlings dancing and darting around the ponderous Hellgate attempting force her off her run.
There wasn’t any smart plan to it, as the Demonic and the Ravens came in at the Fireball from below, attempting to use their meagre weaponry to pierce the McKennas thick hide.
In just under five minutes of combat the Fireball eviscerated the Raven Class Blackbird, forcing the remaining two Ravens pulled back as the Demonic surged forward firing full broadsides into the Fireball. At the high point of the battle, just as the Demonic seemed to be about to disable the Fireball it was engulfed in PPC fire from the Hellgate which had dispatched 3 of the 5 Swiftlings and was returning to assist it’s partner.
In response portals snapped open in the Demonics belly, as it’s final defense prepared. Before either McKenna fired a volley, 18 aerospace fighters joined the battle, ready to exploit the McKennas lack of anti fighter weapons they swooped in on the Fireball as the Demonic slammed into the Hellgate, just aft of her docking collars, the resulting impact set off the Demonic’s ammunition stores and gutted the ship as well as finishing off the now crippled Hellgate.

Overview:

By the end of the 26th Century the Barracuda class Corvette was really beginning to show its drawbacks, and by 2620 the Rim Worlds was already drawing up ships to replace the small corvette in her chosen roles before they would either phase the ship out entirely or relegate her to second line duties and mothballs.
The first of these new ships was the Swiftling class Destroyer, a 575,000 ton craft drawn up to best the Terrans Essex and Lola as well as several Lyran and Marik destroyers. Comparitively small to the vessels she was meant to outperform the Swiftling was built with at the time experiment Ferro Aluminium composites created by the Rim Worlds Republic from samples stolen from the Terran Hegemony and Lyran Commonwealth as well as several other recent created from the Republic Research facilities.

Capabilities:

Weighing in at 575,000 tons, the Swiftling is one of the smallest destroyers in production. Powered by the massive Republic Light Engines the Swiftling easily matched the Barracuda for speed and agility in combat, and with a top speed of nearly 3Gs the Swiftling proved capable in her chosen role of escort and Pirate hunter easily capable of catching cargo haulers and the slow transports pirates seemed to favour. This huge engine also allowed the Swiftling some interesting abilities; first amongst them was the large amount of armour the Swiftling is able to carry due to her excess structural reinforcement added for high G manoeuvres. The second is the odd ability to perform abnormally tight turns, which gave the Swiftling awesome agility in combat and let to the use of wolfpack tactics by captains who used this agility to outmanoeuvre heavier opponents to prevent them from bringing their weapons to bear.
Carrying just over five hundred tons of experiment Ferro-Aluminium composite the Swiftling is quite heavily armoured for her weigh class, able to take shots from the heaviest of Naval weapons and stand a good chance of surviving and returning fire. Many a pirate commander has died surprised by the amount of abuse that a Swiftling could take.
Weaponry however is the one area where the Swiftling falls down compared to her contemporaries; armed to outgun corvettes many destroyers can severely outgun a Swiftling, which is armed only with six classes 20 Naval Autocannons, eight Medium Naval PPCs and a small series of medium Naval Lasers and Barracuda missile tubes which though capable of handing out tremendous punishment on ships stupid enough to ignore the Swiftling often takes several shots to pierce armour. However the Swiftling does carry an array of Large Lasers that can neutralise Aerofighters giving her an extended lifespan.
Interestingly the Swiftling is one of the few destroyers that can carry Dropships, this is reasoned that Swiftlings can be detached from fleets to perform long distance duties unsuited to any other ship in the fleet and that being able to carry cargo dropships or ground forces would be a boon to the Rim Worlds rapid response system. Three docking collars and a six craft shuttle bay certainly provide good carrying capacity.
The Swiftling still follows the Rim Worlds construction doctrine of an integral fighter compliment with dual squadrons of what are generally medium weight Republic Angel class Aerofighters.

Deployment:
   
   The Swiftling Class served the Republic well up to the Amaris Coup, with pairs of Swiftlings responsible for keeping the Republics borders well protected from pirate attack. Of the twenty-six ships of the class created by the Republic, sixteen were assigned to the Republic battlefleets as escort craft and picket ships with the remaining ten Swiftlings used as Pirate hunters and fast pursuit vessels, roles that they excelled at until the Amaris Coup caused the near complete destruction of the class.
The proudest moments of the Swiftling class were probably in battles such as the defence of Venturers Light, the Marshalls Rift conflict and several others did the Swiftling find it’s true niche in the battlefield of space. Swiftlings were deployed to these systems to protect shipyards and factories in the mineral rich asteroid systems and using tactics adapted from those that proved so successful for the Taurian Navy the ships launched sniping attacks, used hit and fade tactics and generally made life truly miserable for the fleets sent to secure the systems.
The battle of Marshalls Rift was a battle is probably the shining star of the Swiftlings battle history, but it is a fight that history really overlooked. For over a month a fleet of eight Swiftlings held off a battle fleet of Destroyers, Frigates, and two Texas class battleships for weeks, destroying 4 Essex, 3 Lola and 2 Riga class destroyers in a series of hit and run attacks that took advantage of the Swiftlings extremely powerful drive system before the remaining 8 Swiftlings received ordered to jump for New St Andrews where three were captured and the remaining destroyed.
These three Swiftlings surprisingly were taken with Kerensky on the Exodus, reportedly because the General was impressed with the endurance and speed of the designs as well as the inclusion of docking collars. These ships would survive the exodus and the Pentagon Civil war and current intelligence seized from the Great Houses places these ships in the Hells Horses cache fleet.

Overview :
   The Phalanx class began as the Rim Worlds entrant in the great Battleship race of the 27th century. Built to compete against the Terran Texas and Farragut as well as the Atreus and the Lyrans heavyweight fleet the Phalanx took Rim Worlds Engineers well over ten years to design even with the purchase of two old Monsoon class vessels, which were scrapped and used to teach the Republic engineers about large scale construction.
   This kind of project of course drew a lot of attention from the Amaris family, the Republics hereditary rulers, of whom Selanta and Tadeo took the most interest in the great ship in 2643 and whom assisted in covering up the expense that went into designing the ship by increasing the Defence budget. In addition a new construction facility had to be built due to previous limitations on the Republics shipyards, in the end the secret destroyer facility at Stars End was expanded to accommodate the Phalanx construction program.
   In the end it would take nearly 25 years from design to creation for the first Phalanx to be launched, and in 2661 the keel to the first Phalanx, the Selanta Amaris was laid down.

Capabilities:

   Built to be the ultimate symbol of the Rim Worlds Republics power, the Phalanx weighed in at an incredible 1,050,000 tons the largest warship ever built outside of the Terran Hegemony. Powered by the experimental Hellfire HA engines created expressly for the purpose, the Phalanx was built using the latest in experimental construction techniques at Stars End, and as a result the behemoth carries an awesome array of capital weaponry as well as a smaller series of antifighter lasers.
   The main punch of the Phalanx is supplied by two rows of massive autocannons in dual turrets situated along the broadsides of the Phalanx, these cannons a dozen each of NAC/30 and NAC/35 are capable of shredding smaller ships and battering aside even the most determined defender. Backed up by two dozen Medium Naval PPCs many capital ships would be wise to give a Phalanx a wide berth.
   Antifighter and point defence duties were filled with a series of large lasers spread evenly around the Phalanx, while a large spread of White Shark Missile tubes were arrayed across the front of the Phalanx for extreme range firepower.
   Protection is provided by almost 1,900 tons of Ferro Aluminium armour composites somewhat focused towards the bow of the vessel, while eighteen Republic Aerofighters and six Dropships provide escort duties.

History :

   Only four of these titanic behemoths were deployed due to maitenance requirements (The Rim Worlds Republic may have covered an area comparible to the Federated Suns, but had only a quarter of the population, and income) and costs. Of these the Stefan Amaris was the most active in the fight against Kerensky, guarding troop convoys going into and out of the Rim Worlds Republic via the Draconis Combine (Who were blackmailed into Neutrality in the conflict) with the entire 2nd Republic fleet. The Stefan Amaris and the 2nd Fleet were eventually destroyed over Terra in a brutal and bloody fight with Kerenskys task forces, deploying nuclear weapons and Casper drones.
   Surprisingly those very same Casper drones destroyed the Stefan Amaris after a Black Lion class  Battlecruiser destroyed her IFF gear with a rogue shot.
   Of the remainder, the Richard Amaris would fall over Apollo with the majority of the 1st Republic Fleet, taking with it numerous ships as its White Sharks had been refitted to carry modified Nuclear Weaponry that were lethal to SLDF warships.
   The Tadeo Amaris would fight a running battle through the Lyran Commonwealth and Free Worlds League in company with the remaining ships of the 4th Fleet attempted to destroy as many SLDF ships as possible and racking up and impressive string of kills against SLDF convoys before falling in defence of Terra.
   The last ship, the Selanta Amaris was kept in the Terran Hegemony until the return of Kerensky, when she along with 60% of the 3rd Republic fleet went AWOL and vanished towards the outlying provinces of the Rim Worlds Republic. The 3rd Fleet was never heard from again despite three centuries of prospectors combing the area, although the lack of any complete map of the Republics old borders may help explain why the ships were never found.

Overview:

   The Snow Kite was built to repair the Rim Worlds Republics largest naval disadvantage; the large-scale lack of Aerofighters for Naval Duties. Built along the lines of the Rim Worlds Centurion class Anti-Aircraft Cruiser, the Snow Kites only purpose is to carry the large numbers of the Rim Worlds Republics Aerofighters into combat.
   Based on the Free Worlds League Varyag and the Terran Enterprise class carrier, the Snow Kites were built at the hidden facility at Stars End which had grown dormant since the construction of the first three Phalanx class Battleships, only four of the massive carriers were ever built due to lack of aerofighters in the Rim Worlds navy (Despite the opening of the Apollo Aero Academy and the Laiacona Naval Training Facility the Rim Worlds would forever suffer a severe lack of Aeropilots, though not Aerofighters).
   However even the presence of four carriers caused a stir in the nearby Lyran Commonwealth and Free Worlds League, who both presumed that such ships were meant solely for offensive purposes, however their concerns were quelled when the Republic leadership confessed that the ship was meant to protect their large and sparsely protected nation and its shipping lanes from pirate attacks.

Capabilities:

   Despite the appearance of being a large and well-constructed Cruiser class vessel the Snow Kite is completely unsuited to all but the lightest ship to ship combat. Armed with two titanic Class 40 naval Autocannons, which are capable of inflicting severe damage on any ship that comes close as well as a dozen of the lightest Naval Autocannons available, the 10 series, the Snow Kite can barely equal many destroyer class vessels for firepower.
   Instead the Snow Kite is meant to sit back out of combat, refuelling and repairing her eight wings of Aerofighters while providing extreme range support fire for the rest of her battle group. Capable of fending off most Corvettes and Dropships with her Naval Autocannons and a back up battery of a dozen class 55 Naval Lasers. In addition the Snow Kites carry a light anti-fighter defence (Editors Note: Originally the Snow Kite was to carry an AA battery similar to the one used on the Centurion class Cruiser. However that plan was scrapped when someone remarked ‘Why does it need an AA battery when her job is to carry the Rim Worlds Aerofighters into combat?’), this battery, composed of twenty Barracuda missile tubes with a generous amount of ammunition as well as forty eight large lasers, adds to the Snow Kites life expectancy with its ability to neutralise fighter threats.
   The Snow Kite also carries a generous amount of armour for the time, with almost one thousand tons of Ferro Aluminium draped across her hull, allowing her to take several hits from the heaviest of Capital weaponry before the Kite or her fighter compliment is in danger.
Also added were four docking collars, allowing the Snow Kite to perform long patrols around the Republic borders.

Deployment:

   The Snow Kite was meant to be one of the centrepieces of the Rim Worlds Republic battlefleets, with each fleet built around one Phalanx and a Snow Kite class Carrier in addition to ten to twelve escorting vessels. However the Snow Kites often found themselves on long distance patrols around the Republic borders in the company of Swiftling class destroyers or on planetary defence duties as the fleets were split up to defence the Republic.
   However during the Amaris coup the Republic fleets were reformed as the 2nd fleet moved into the Terran Hegemony escorting troop movements with the 4th until the 4th was relocated to raiding duties. Of the Snow Kites, the Ice Hawk was destroyed over Apollo with the 1st Fleet despite the use of Nuclear tipped Barracudas against approaching SLDF warships. The Arctic Falcon would fall over Terra, taken down when the hulk of the Phalanx class Stefan Amaris struck her amidships and caused her to fall into Terras Gravity well, the third Snow Kite the Winter Eagle fell with the Arctic Falcon when she was hit by concentrated firepower from several SLDF Pursuit cruisers.
   The last Snow Kite, the Snow Kite herself was attached to the 3rd Republic Fleet when they were AWOL en masse. She was abandoned however after suffering a KF drive failure in the Terran Hegemony and fell into the hands of the SLDF. She would eventually be taken with Kerensky on the Exodus as a cargo ship with her fighter bays removed to facilitate bulk cargo transport. She would survive the Pentagon Civil War and the Wolverines Trial of Annihilation, forgotten and mothballed, as part of the Cache fleet. Recently however both the Snow Ravens and Cloud Cobras have found her in mothballs and are both currently working out whether or not to return her to advice service.

Manufacturers Apollo Interstellar, Laiacona Aerospace, Rim Worlds Industries , Diplass Mechworks and Rim Worlds Republic Milcorp officially reopened more factories bringing the number of Mech Factories up to 12, Aerospace factories 6 and jumpship/warship factories 4/6, dropships were lagging behind with 3 lines.

with the Industry now able to support the Armed Forces plans were drawn up to try to retake lost worlds from the Lyran Commonwealth.   Throwing our forces against the Lyrans for over 215 yrs, the republic would lose many men and units while gaining little except new mechs and fighters in salvage.   both the 2nd and 3rd Succession Wars took a heavy toll on our fighting forces.

the Reserve BattleMech Division was created.  First created was the Rim Republic Chasseurs.  9 regiments of green recruits along with 3 regiments infantry.  rounded out by local aero forces.  once a year over half of the Regiments would be rotated out to keep active units fresh.   The Reserve Infantry Divsion was also created to fullfill the same need.

In those 215 yrs of fighting the Lyrans we learned a new type of warfare,  small unit warfare (company or smaller.) apperantely the innersphere was losing the technological battle as the wars dragged on, so to keep ourselves from becoming overwhelmed with by lyrans we began to follow this change of warfare.  This change allowed us to contain our losses.   
We abandoned idea of reclaiming our lost worlds soon after 2830 as it would be too costly in men and material, the losses would bled us white.  we became idle against the Lyrans letting them think us weak, backwards, pirates looking for our next meal.  for over 200yrs we waited for a a change of power, a change of direction.

   James Durant became president by a landslide in the September 39 elections.  The former President Gutof Durant (3rd Cousin) had led the Nation thru a serious Recession and bungled many military operations.  (Think Jimmy Carter and the hostage rescue attempt x5).  Carl Hector Rowe a descendant of Hector Worthingtone Rowe (Original founder of the Republic) and Halvern B'wlen ran against James. for about two months James's name didnt help him until Halvern was caught with a prostitute and Hector began a smear campaign that turned public opinion against him.  James remained above all of this and remained "clean" to the public.

  After James Durant took office in Feb. 3041 he settled into a nation in a depression.   looking for a way to alleve his economy without starting a war James had the bright idea to start a colonization program to jumpstart everything.   he sent scout and explorer jumpships to search for habital worlds both inside and outside the Rim Republic,

Side Note:

The Spartans:
  The planet named Spartan, has up to 1 million citizens, not including slaves.   with a 200,000 for women, 200,000 for elderly and roughly 250,000 for youngsters.     leaving 350,000 fighting men.  now only 360 to 1200 will be allowed for Mechwarrior training.   the rest will be slated for infantry.  that would be 3 to 10 regiments of mechs.    of which only 6 would be allowed off world for duty with the Rim Republic.   most of the Spartan soldiers will be slotted to open positions in the various infantry forces and rise to command postitions quickly due to the harsh training they endure and contine till they fail.  after the first failure the soldier in question must retest in one year if he fails again he no longer has a warrior status and will be removed from the active Spartan roles and put in as a merchant or farmer.   if he so desires he can leave sparta never to return also.

King Leonidas stared at the Themopyle Sea wondering if the fools of the council realised the course of action he had to take to preserve the republic thereby save their world.     Already several outlying worlds have fallen, Von Strang's World has been com silent since the short burst "They Have returned."    The Oberon Confederations and the Elysian Fields are being devored by some unknown force and now several republic divisions were wiped out in the Valkyrate Prefecture.

"Sir the personal guard is assembled and awaiting your presence."

Leonidas mind wandered to long ago when he was a mere lad of 17.

   "The cold felt bitter on his skin, his torn cadet suit barely keeping out the worst of the winter storm.   his two weeks iron rations ran out three days ago, if he survived another week and four days and walk out alive and with the wolf pelt he would be accepted as a warrior, if not well he would feed the wildlife.

   The fire was cold or was he delirious from the cold?   Picking up his crude wood spear he left the cave for search of some food, any food.     10 feet from the cave he spied the 3 dark black shapes coming toward him."

   Leonidas wearily waited for the pack to attack, backing away slowly keeping the spear in front of him.     suddenly the wolf on his left started foward then lazily began to cross to his right as the wolf on his right began to cross to his left and the big male in the middle began a zig zag course toward him.

   Setting himself against the rock face of the cave entrance Leonides waited until the wolf on his left leaped off the ground flying toward him, quickly he sank down as the wolf slammed into the rock, a sickning thud crunk could be heard as the force of the animals leap drove its head into the rock.   rolling to his left he braced himself for the other wolf's attack.
