1st Panzer Regiment (FedCom Civil War-era mercs)
« on: 03 September 2015, 10:08:10 »
Combat vehicles are usually laughed at by overconfident MechWarriors. For the boys and girls of the 1st Panzer Regiment, that suits them just fine, as they'll usually be underestimated.

Organized as a reinforced regiment with four battalions, the 1st Panzer Regiment is a formidable force on the battlefield. This is owed in large part to their homogenous equipment, filling out each battalion with large amounts of the same design, as well as making sure to concentrate fire by lance. They excel in urban defense.

1st Battalion (Regular/Reliable)
36x Manticore Heavy Tanks (Standard)

2nd Battalion (Regular/Reliable)
36x Demolishers (Standard)

3rd Battalion (Regular/Reliable)
36x Calvary Attack Helicopters (LRM)

4th Battalion (Regular/Reliable)
36x Plainsmen (Standard)

While on a long-term garrison contract in the Chaos March, the 1st Panzers defended the planet from an attack by two companies of pirates. Though they didn't realize it at the time, evidence indicates the pirates were funded by the Word of Blake to stir up chaos. Quickly, the 1st Panzers drew up a plan.

When the pirates landed, 3rd Battalion began harassment with LRM fire, leading the pirates to a nearby abandoned city. As they drew closer, 1st Battalion added their own LRMs mixed with PPC bolts while withdrawing further into the city. This behavior annoyed the pirates enough to chase them into the city center, where the densest buildings lay. That's when the 2nd Battalion opened fire on them.

Divided into nine roaming lances, the Demolishers of 2nd Battalion killed two lances of pirates outright and severely damaged many others before the raiders began to retreat in a panic. 4th Battalion then cheerfully chased the panicking pirates all the way back to their dropships. While the pirates had started with two companies of BattleMechs, only a single lance of badly shot-up 'Mechs made it back to the dropships under their own power.

My only comment is you might want to give 2nd Batt 2 companies of Demolishers and 1 company of Schrek PPC Carriers, to give them some ranged fire just incase they need it.
Demolishers are great in cities and from ambush, but they do have very short range.  Sucks when you are out ranged and on the modern battlefield that is easy to do.

Already got a plan for that, buddy. When they actually bother to upgrade their equipment, they'll trade out one company of standard Demolishers for the Gauss version.

or a mix, one gauss and one AC in the turret on 2 tanks per lance
I can also see a 5th battalion
helos and BA, easily droppable into areas to take out supply/repair units
or a group of mechs who think they are well hidden till they walk into a BA ambush

Eh, my plans for their intended upgrades post-Jihad (if they survive...) would go along these lines.

1st Battalion: They would trade out their Manticores for the HPPC version.

2nd Battalion: Keep two companies of standard Demolishers, while replacing the third company with Gauss versions

3rd Battalion: Keep two companies as previous, while upgrading a single company to the Cavalry TAG model, adding in Semi-Guided LRMs where possible.

4th Battalion: Change out the standard Plainsmen for Streak models, with the SRM 2 bin loaded with Inferno rounds.

This would conclude their wishlist upgrades, though they might look into the possibility of acquiring artillery support and Battle Armor in the future. Paint job is always Panzer Grey.

That works too
and if you are getting Tag Vtol don't forget about the Arrow IV Model.  Nothing says Love like a Guided Arty Strike and You have tech crews who knows how to keep the model running

I was thinking more along the lines of adding a company of Arrow IV Demolishers in addition to the Battalion of those bad boys they already have. If so, they'd upgrade all of 3rd Battalion's Cavalrys to the TAG model.
