Point Value Revision: Now Live
« on: 23 August 2018, 17:09:37 »
Hi folks.  Thanks to the hard work of nckestrel (spreadsheet wrangler to the stars) and Skyhigh (tireless MUL admin), the PV update that you assisted with over the course of two years of testing and feedback is now live on the Master Unit List.  All old PVs on the MUL have been replaced by those as calculated by the method found in the current Alpha Strike Companion errata.

If you're interested in the nuts and bolts of the discussion leading to these reforms, see this thread:
https://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=53612.0

Please bear in mind that the errata version represent the final form of the revision; the above thread contains various superceded ideas.

Next up is a revision to the PV cost of Skill Ratings.  I'll start a new thread for that, however; for here, please limit your discussion to the revision as published.  Thanks again for all your help and support of AS; this revision would have been much worse without the ample input we received.  Onwards to the Commander's Edition!

A heartfelt thank you that this waited until after GenCon to go live.  Now time to re-train myself to recognize PVs at a glance!

Seems there are quite a few changes around!

Seems that we will need to increase our budget for our upcoming campaign, since a lot of vehicles we planned on using have seen their price increased. I was also compiling the combat stat sin an EXCEL and either I was doing it wrong (probably) or some of those stats have changed as well!

In any case it seems like a massive chage, so thanks to the staff for keeping the revisions going. Now we will just have to wait for that updated Alpha Strike rulebook :)

Cheers,
Xavi

Thanks for putting this work in, guys. Alpha Strike brought me back to Battletech and is my favorite way to play.  These rebalanced values are much appreciated.

Gotta admit, I wasn't paying much attention to the PV discussion before this. Any unit types that aren't affected by this, before I go and re-download ALL my AS cards?

I think in general things that moved 6-8" experienced the least change, but on an individual basis may still have moved a couple points either direction.

Slow mechs and vehicles that also did not jump were pretty much the only thing not affected.

ANH-1A changed too.  Brawler reduction?  Not sure if we missed it before or if the rules for the brawler reduction changed?

It's not hard and fast, but as a rule of thumb things with a TMM of 1 (and no jump movement) stayed the same.  Things with more TMM went up, things with less went down.  Things with TMMs of 3 or 4 went up more than things with TMM 2.

I'm pretty sure that's just an order of operations / rounding correction.  While adding the latest rules to the master sheet, I found that our old sheet was doing one or two such things incorrectly.  The corrections occasionally led to a change of a point here and there, without any formal rule change actually taking place.

Was looking through several units to get a feel for things. It’s no longer cheap to spam hover tanks (which I agree with) and some of the deadly speed demons cost as much or more than a Shadow Hawk 2H. Having played with both, that seems very fair at skill 4.

So, not to derail too much, but what was this mention of looking at the cost of skill increases? Is that on the table before commanders edition comes out? Should I wait for an official thread on the subject?

It wasn't discussed much, but what I remember was looking at successive upgrades costing more than previous upgrades.  (I.e. 4 to 3 is cheaper than 3 to 2, and etc)

I rather like the idea that boosting skills comes up against diminishing returns.

I noticed, but hadn’t had a chance to check it in an alternate browser in case my iPad was just being fussy. It also randomly decided not to show any of the mech images when I look at my PDF of RS:3075, so I don’t entirely trust it to be representative!

No, it's been that way for a while.  There are several headers missing on the vehicle cards.  I think they are aware of it, but I'm not positive on that.
