Talons and Quad Mechs
« on: 05 August 2019, 18:18:51 »
So Talons take up two crits each leg and weigh 1 Ton per 15 Tons of mech.

How does that work for quads? Is it just the same weight and double the crits ie: eight crits total instead of four?

Given the wording in TacOps, same tonnage, and 8 crits.

Seems that way, given the Sarath B's record sheet.

Would a quad mech only kick with the front 2 legs anyway?

Quads can kick with their rear legs to rear arc. Fun surprise to backstabbers.

Quad mechs, can, in fact, kick in any direction.

I can see forward and backwards, but to the side? Does that work like a leg sweep?

BMM has no note about Quads being capable of kicking to side arcs.
Just front as usual with front legs, and rear with their rear legs.

The group I was in years ago had a house rule to allow quads to "Donky kick"...BOTH rear legs could kick at once!  If I recalled, you rolled your piloting against the opponents piloting and if you won, BOTH legs made contact.  Then you rolled for both opponent legs separately to see which one got hit.  It has the potential for both kicks to hit one leg!  Everyone though twice about backstabbing the quads on the table!  Imagine...a Scorpion doing 24points ( 55t, 6pts doubled to 12pts, and doubled for the second kick..24pts) of KICK damage to one leg!  OUCH!
If at first you don't succeed, make it worth the repairman's time!

Hmm, front or rear arcs in Total Warfare.  Guess side arcs was a house rule my group used.

Honestly I'd rather single kick than use that house rule.  It'd be marginally less damage at 22 damage(standard kick is 1 damage per 5 tons, netting 11 base for a 55 ton mech, double to 22 for Talon) but the enemy wouldn't get an opposed PSR to avoid it.

Unless you mean that the house rule uses standard kick damage, not halved/punch.  Then I might consider it.

Ah, that makes sense. I could only remember the front kick, rear kick, and mule kick optional rule.

It's weird when you've played with a house rule so long that you forgot that it was a house rule in the first place.  Especially something like that, since it gets used so rarely.
