I think you're right...and it isn't being "River Phoenix Lite" just sad?
No. I think many actors can thrive on their self destructions, obsessions, and drive. It's only when, like Phoenix, they carry them too far. Franco's got a weird balance that'll make him last a while in the industry, I think, where Phoenix was destined to die young.

Let's not forget one of the original bad boys... who still managed to win smiles and some odd respect, Kirk Douglas. ****** if he isn't a tough old bird.

So that's why he look uninterested to be at the show (according to critics). It is said he appeared distant and was stiff as a statue on stage.

If what Geoff says is accurate, it might just be due to exhaustion!
Delivered from the blast,
Last of a line of lasts,
The pale princess of a palace cracked.
And now the kingdom comes;
crashing down undone,
And I am a master of a nothing place,
Of recoil and grace.

He was also apparently, (according to Yahoo) Tweeting throughout the ceremony, then skipped out on the After-party he was hosting to catch a flight back east.  Which, if he was on a TV show filmed on monday morning, would make sense - though hosting a party and not actual attending it yourself seems odd/inconsiderate.

The Oscars was merely an item to check off a list for James Franco, who is working on a life-long project to be an indelible part of everything. ALL THINGS MUST BE FRANCO.

Here is what it means to be Franco: he is going to be teaching a college-level course on himself.

So anyone else wonder if Mr Franco has links to Interconnectedness Unlimited?  ;)

Not only is Franco the founder and CEO of Interconnectedness Unlimited, he is also a common ancestor of all the House Lords!

How does one say, "My belt is too tight." in Swedenese?
"Lord Kurita is merciful.  You will be spared the humiliation of a trial.  Instead, you are invited to dine with your sainted ancestors.  You don't follow?  Let me rephrase.  I am about to run you through with my sword.  Now you get the picture?  Good."

I'd not be a bit surprised if he started working the "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" angle and claimed a direct lineage from Moses, Jesus, Mohammed and Buddah too.

Odd question, but how closely related are Swedish and German?  I'm no linguist, but it seems to be coming from the same root language.

Swedish is a germanic language yes, as in it's own little way is english.  Just with english of course there's been a lot of french and latin added to the mix.

Then would he have to be killed as a vampire?

Joking here.

I guess I am as out of touch as you guys, and some of my other friends make me feel sometime.  I didn't watch the Oscars, haven't in probably 10 years.  I heard Natalie Portman won but it hasn't even registered if I've heard any thing else.  And I have no idea who this James Franco character.  River Phoenix yes.  Franco?  No, and to be quite honest it sounds like good thing.

I have to say, I am glad that February finally ended, though it struggled mightily once I finally wrapped my hands about its neck and squeezed... Not sure I'm a fan of March yet, though.

B-Man, did you see any of the Spider-Man movies? If so, then James Franco played Harry Osborn. He's been in a number of other movies, and I count myself as a fan of his work.

I am a happy man tonight.  My Alma Mater finally got soccer teams this year, and I'm helping coach the girls.  We won our first game, the district's first ever, 4-2.  I'm quite a proud coach tonight.

Congrats, AW.

Well, this year has the most Best Picture nominated films I've ever seen before the awards ceremony; True Grit and The King's Speech.  Both were good movies, and worth seeing.

He was in Freaks and Geeks, as well. If you haven't seen it you do yourself a disservice.

James Franco is a perfectly fine actor.  He's just become a bit of a meme because he's absolutely everywhere these days.  I wasn't joking when I said he was going to be teaching a college course on himself.  He also had an uncredited role in The Green Hornet recently in what was probably the best scene in the movie.  My personal assessment is that he's aware of the meme and is playing into it because he thinks it's fun and he was going to be doing all this stuff anyway.  I don't know how else to explain his twitter feed or his performance at the Oscars.

It was a decent film, but if you're interested I would highly recommend Echoes of Eagles, as it tells the true story of the 95th and 49th Aero Squadrons, which were the basis for the squadron in Flyboys.  Very, very interesting read, I tore through it in one weekend and have returned to it often for quotes or to refresh my memory.

Some people are just annoyingly omni present sometimes.  Ricky Gervais for example, who in my humble opinion is not that funny.

But then i never cared much for The Office (the original UK one), as i don't enjoy humour based on cringe worthy situations.

So the staff librarian at my job has very kindly worked out what is basically a scam in which I don't have to do any real work as long as I assist her correspondence unit, which on its own would be pretty great news, but I also get to use a nom-de-plume! I chose Phil Lovecraft, as a tribute to the criminally underrated Fred Ward's turn in the 1991 HBO b-film Cast a Deadly Spell.
