It is just the wildest thing, but it keeps happening. My assault 'mechs keep getting headcapped. And I know what you are going to say: assault 'mechs draw a lot of fire. Except that isn't the case. We are talking early rounds of combat. 'Mechs almost untouched. Over and over again. A PPC to the face. Gauss rifle to the face. Floating crit with a large laser. Lost a Hunchback that way too.

This time my BattleMaster took three groups of indirect LRM fire to the dome across two turns. Yes: two turns. The second round resulted in back-to-back 12s from my friend. As if the to-hit wasn't high enough with indirect LRM fire.

Guys, it is maddening. When I GM the campaign, they are all incompetent. A lance of Vedettes and a stiff wind is a threat to them. One-on-one: forget it.

This is really just me venting. I know I can't throw their dice into traffic... yet.

Different dice across manufacturers.

Today one of my friends was using the dice from the Mercs Kickstarter that just arrived. So not only were they awfully designed so as to be illegible, they also rolled very hot today.

Get a propane torch and make sure it's very visible to your dice.  That'll learn 'em.

Friend had one of those huge solid plastic D20’s (the size of your clenched fist) that became all the rage: never could roll it on the tables because it would damage them, it even fell off and cracked marble once).

Except at college. They had this cheep vinyl flooring and it ROLLED on so we always used to THROW it down the corridor because it was FUN!…. Until we dented the wall and then stopped

But I know your feelings: go talk to JadeHellbringer about his dice ;)

Well, not me but a friend, use to buy a set of dice then bring his favorites outside and let them watch him, sledgehammer the new set that he had no feelings for.  And he would say to his favorites, those I didn't care about and I did this to them, what do you think I will do to you if you keep failing me.

A plastic die cracked marble?  I'm going to hazard a guess that one of those two objects was not actually made of the substance it was claimed to be.

Unless you meant it was a pewter die.

I've seen similar before, with folks in adnd, no matter WHO's d20 they were rolling..  Would always roll at least ONE natural 20 per combat we had...

YET ANYONE else rolling that same die, would never seem to get above a 14....

We had a guy in our group that would usually roll 3-4 headshots a night.  It was kind of a terror facing him at times because of that.  He's been in Portugal for the last year or so, last I heard.

When someone gets a couple headshots, or one early on, we say hes caught the spirit of him.

I have a friend that I used to play D&D with.  Sometimes he'd GM and sometimes he'd just play.  When he was GMing he'd routinely roll four or five crits per fight (rolling on the table so we knew he wasn't just declaring a crit), but when he was running a character he had trouble just hitting.  Kept rolling 5s and 6s.

Traitor dice. It happens. I have a d16 (for DCC) that'll always let us down. Other than that, remember to have multiple dice sets on hand, so you don't just keep rolling the same dice. That tires them out. An remember to recharge your dice when it's not your turn: always have the one facing upwards. Oh, and if you're playing in a group, always cheer your friend's dice on.

That's all the dice magic I know and is practiced in my group. We don't resort to disciplinary actions ...yet.

Which faction dice are you referring to here?  The Clan KS ones?

The plastic ones from one of the first sets they sold, as I understand it.  I never had a pair of my own.

I've never heard anything about them being unintentionally weighted, but I know that some of my dice from the Clan Invasion Kickstarter are noticeably uneven in shape.

WE did a convention game back in Gencon UK 98.  A guy who DM'ed a session i stood by and watched on Thursday afternoon, sat down to play a game with me and 5 others on Sat.
During his game he ran on Thursday we recorded over two DOZEN nat 20 rolls when he was attacking the pcs in the 3 combat sessions the game had..
AS a player, i remember he rolled only ONCE, out of about 30 rolls, where the score was a natural 15 or higher.

Other than that, remember to have multiple dice sets on hand, so you don't just keep rolling the same dice. That tires them out. An remember to recharge your dice when it's not your turn: always have the one facing upwards. Oh, and if you're playing in a group, always cheer your friend's dice on.

When i dm, i usually have 15-20 d20's, and around 20 d6, i rotate rolling through...

  • I paid for my Atlas by selling action figures.
I played in a tournament back in the late 90s. In the final round I was playing for the bronze medal, and my opponent was probably every so slightly better... but his 2d6 averaged 7s, while mine were averaging a solid 8.5. After the slaughter game, he asked if he could have my dice so he could crush them in a vise; I handed them over without complaint, as he deserved some manner of vengeance.

Was playing Alpha Strike with my Brother in Law and nephew on vacation a few weeks ago.  I had rolled a 10, 11, and 12 on initiative and they demanded my dice.  On the following rounds they used them and rolled, 2, 2, and 4.  Gave them back, and I rolled an 11.  Luckily they were good sports and we all had a good laugh.

I believe they were manufactured by Armory back in the early 90s.

Last night I had a longbow shoot my ares in the head three times in one turn. All three crew failed one of the consciousness checks, passed out, and the ares fell so they all took a 4th.

It happens.

On three separate occasions in the 00s, I managed to kill a mech via inflicting six pilot injuries in one round.  Same pattern each time: three individual head hits, one ammo explosion, and a fall due to leg amputation.

For us it’s usually five
2 for ammo
CASE II
second ammo bin in same location for 2
Pass out, fall, knock head for fifth

Ok, redemption was had.

We played a game Wednesday and I won. Played the night scenario from Fall of Terra scenario book. Took out his three mechs and lost none.

Yesterday we played a 16K BV game. I lost one of six mechs to a random gauss headshot (of course), but proceeded to take out his four vehicles, two battle armor squads, and two of his mechs. He had two beat up mechs by the time he decided to call it.

Of course, his stealth Pillager falling on its face, failing to stand up twice, and a gauss crit causing an unconscious pilot didn't hurt either. But after the last game, he deserved it.

It does feel awkward when you own the machine Megamek is running on, and your last surviving 'Mech suddenly can't be hit but always makes its own to-hit rolls.

I've lost a mech to pilot crits, after falling twice in a turn, and knocking myself out, then getting a crit to the head and rolling cockpit.

I don't recall if Pilot Hits are part of Forced Withdrawal, but they should be for the above.

If you've passed the 3, 5, & 7 and are still awake, NOW is the time to move backwards.
Because 10 is pretty much GOING to put you out & then you'll fall for 11.

A mech goes into forced withdraw status after the fourth pilot injury.
