Title: UAC/5 Field Gun platoon
Post by: Maingunnery on 14 April 2018, 18:17:10
I never really did any infantry design, so here is my first attempt, feedback please.
The choice for the UAC/5 was because of its compromise between firepower and range, especially considering field guns don't jam.
I used just 3 squads as I wanted to limit the transport weight to a maximum of 50 tons.
I imagine that each squad has an open tractor with ammo bin that is connected to an Ultra AC/5 field gun, and having a ammo feed hanging between them.

Just game across this so a bit late commenting, but, its under staffed.

You have to have at least 27 men to move the ACs,  1 per ton of gun.

So I would go with a standard 28 man platoon which is an even 6 tons & also allows you 1 soak damage before loosing at Ultra.

Total platoons weight would be 36 tons.

Those are Clan UAC/5s, so its 3x7 tons.

Ah, I didn't catch that it was a clan platoon.

In that case I'd still up it to 25 troops, a proper point, and give yourself some soak troops.

Why is the transport weight so much?

Even as clan it should still be 30 tons not the 45.5 you have.

According to MegaMekLab that is the weight, there might be a bug?

I am using Mechanized (Tracked), which seriously ups the weight.

But there are some serious issues with how MegaMekLab handles calculations and the unclear outputs.

Ah, well there's the reason.

I was calculating them as Motorized.

What are you planning on transporting them in that you need them under 50 tons?

AFAIK nothing carries Mechanized infantry specifically, just raw tonnage in cargo bays.

Nothing in mind, I just don't feel like spending more.
