Although I know the forums are being re-built, will we have the option to disable signatures and avatars again, or does the new forum software preclude that?

Go to your profile.  Under "Modify profile", there's a drop-down menu.  Go to "look and Layout" and disable away!

Granted it does appear that the guidelines for avatars and signatures will be much more stringent than previously. Makes sense.

The new skins when complete will also help with that -- as always there will be a image-light version that doesn't even use images for the admin/post-count area... I'm hoping to have that done by end of week next week, but no promises.

SMF2 isn't compatible skin-wise with 1.x, and I'm still learning it.

Since the main index part is done -- shame it's not at ALL compatible with the default skin. (let's just say SMF's developers and I have different opinions on what constitutes good markup). I cleaned out a lot of the harsh edges and all the 90's style beveled borders, and darkened it up a hair from the last iteration. It also cleans out the tiled background from the logo which not only looks nicer IMHO, it also knocks 20k off the file sizes.

It's back now -- another little one that doesn't crop up in testing on a blank forum.

I've got it limited to eight pages (120 posts) as more than that can monopolize too much of the server's time not letting other people "get in"...
