Waterloo class Armored Cavalry Dropship
« on: 08 December 2019, 00:04:20 »
The Waterloo class is designed to deploy a battalion of armored cavalry (four composite companies consisting of a hover armor lance, two hover mechanized infantry platoons, and a hover FIST lance), a hover artillery company, a VTOL company, and a support company. For those RCTs which have Armored Cavalry Regiments, there might be anywhere from four to sixteen Waterloos in the outer ring of the Forward Operating Bastion.

Same issue as the other ones way too little cargo, it's trying to do too many jobs at the same time.

Vehicle transports don't need to move and fight like assault ships they need to get their cargo from space to the ground safely and keep them going at least until they can capture supplies on the ground or be resupplied.
My three main Alternate Timeline with Thanks fan-fiction threads are in the links below. I'm always open to suggestions or additions to be incorporated so if you feel you wish to add something feel free. There's non-canon units, equipment, people, events, erm... Solar Systems spread throughout so please enjoy

I'm not sure why you feel the need to repeat yourself, especially after I explicitly stated that I've already changed the designs, but it's a tad annoying.

And no, it does precisely one thing, it carries one quarter of an ACR. You also contradict yourself by saying that a dropship's job is to safely get their cargo to the ground but are too fast and too heavily armed. Surprise, speed, and violence of action is safety.

At the end of the day, these are my designs meant to fit my operational concept. I'm open to useful feedback and I've made changes based upon that, but  "I don't like how you've done this despite having no earthly clue what it is you're doing" is neither useful nor is it feedback.

Fyrwulf, I have a question about the paired Arrow IV launchers you've included in a lot of your DropShip designs. Are they intended for air defence of the landing site using ADA Arrows, or are they intended to provide artillery support for the mobile forces they carry, like the Long Tom on the Fortress-class DropShip? I'm curious because you've described the landing site accommodating up to a dozen of some of the DropShip classes, which means the landing zone would be pretty damn huge. I'm thinking that, if the Arrow IVs are intended to provide fire support, their range might be a bit short to provide fire support for forces on the other side of the LZ so you might be better off with a Long Tom artillery. On the other hand Arrow Ivs with ADA missiles should work pretty well for air defence.
