IO PG 165.

Infantry: All Fuel-Air Munitions are considered area-effect
weapons that deliver incendiary effects coupled with a powerful
overpressure wave that is quite effective against softer targets.
As a result, all infantry units caught within a FAM’s area of effect
will suffer twice the weapon’s damage value in that hex (doubled
again if the unit is in clear or open terrain). In addition to this all
infantry units must also roll 2D6 and add their distance from the
FAM’s point of impact (in hexes) from the result. If this modified roll is
9 or less for a conventional infantry unit, or is less than 7 for a battle
armor unit, the remaining troops in the unit are also destroyed.

If I have a Conventional Infantry unit 5 hex's away from a Fuel-Air bomb's point of impact,  does it need to roll a 5+ to survive,  Or does it need to be within the munitions damaging blast radius before that section of rules applies?

About time for a bump.

So to add more clarity.

The Phrase "All Infantry units"  does not naturally limit the instant death effect to only units that took damage from the weapon.  It can refer to that infantry 30 hex's away from the point of impact, which instantly passes its check, but would still be subject to that check.

So by that interpretation, Fuel-Air Munitions would have a huge footprint on a map (7 hex radius against conventional infantry), wiping out otherwise undamaged units entirely on a single poor dice roll.

It needs to roll a 5+ to survive against the overpressure wave effect. This effect is distinct from the damage effect.
