Talon just sent out a video update with a workaround.  He says to login to crowdowx, go to the digital downloads tab and check there for your key if you got an email.

It turns out this isn't part of the survey but you need to make a crowdox account to do it.

1. go to crowdox.com
2 signup for a backer account with the same email you used to back the kickstarter
3. after you sign in, do not click on the clan invasion entry, at the top of the page listing your projects, there's a section for digital downloads and keys. If your Destiny key has propagated, it will be there, as are the keys for all the released fiction, any other books.

I've tried this and my Destiny key was indeed present.

KickStarter/CrowdOx

Despite what was said in the latest KickStarter update, when I go to my CrowdOx account and check the digital downloads, I don't see the new TacOps books download codes. Does anyone else see them?

Apparently not everyone who ordered Destiny has had a code allocated to them yet.

. . . this update is video only.

Why is it video only?  Can the information please be given out primarily in text.  Sure, show the company is hip & multi-media savy with videos but please spell out the critical and supplemental information in text that is immediate and easily accessible in any environment.

And who thinks it is easier to record and upload a video instead of typing a few lines of text?

Squirming is one thing. Denying them the information they need to access a product they've been promised just because they have difficulty understanding recorded audio or cannot regularly find a quiet place to listen is another thing entirely. >:(

What, did you think all the folks who avoid videos do so only because of quirky personal tastes?

I have a freind who is deaf, they dropped out because no text or even sign language,  which isn't a biggy. But the lack of text hurts them.  So they gave up... is this a message we want to send?

That will do. Knock off that kind of sniping y'all. You can discuss the media format but getting on each others' cases will run afoul of board rules.

I watch videos for entertainment.  I typically get to catch all the MCU and other movie trailers through online streaming.  Heck ALL my entertainment is streaming, and my gear is set up for it.  But when I am being given information, I want it as plain and accessible as possible- and video does not meet that criteria.

When a large part of the fanbase self-identifies as grognards and they get consistent feedback on the forums from people who say they avoid or do not subscribe to facebook/twitter and thus miss BT release updates/information.  KISS  Why is it so hard to stop putting out information on video rather than just type it out.

Its not like the videos are high quality productions- though with what looks like his home in the background, congratulations its cleaner than mine lol!- I understand the youtube star look and its part of a effort to appeal to new/younger prospective players.  But the information still needs to be given out in basic form.

Video vs Text

Yes, I'm a self identified grognard, and I love videos, but my wife constantly bugs me about be a Telecommunications network Tech who has a smart phone that I use as....a PHONE (with internet surfing for when I'm bored).

I don;t mind videos, but only as somewhat entertainment dumps. If a video is providing me with 'step-by-step' instructions, please, no video but test. I don't want to play-pause-rewind-verify-play-fastforward-pause-rewind-play.... to ensure I'm doing something correctly.

Silly question, but I blame my dain-bramage on my kids:

Only people who ordered MW:D as a separate add-on (regardless of backer level, at least up to Bloodname) are getting it right?

The only thing everyone got was the beta/test version, yes?

Correct - everyone got the beta, but you had to order the final version of Destiny as an add-on.

I understand the people who did buy the add-on are upset that customers were able to buy it directly from Catalyst last week, so Kicking for it resulted in delayed gratification.

One of the many 'technical communications' courses (think high school English class, but post -secondary) I've taken over the years had a short section on this, although it was more on slide presentations the lesson still applies.  One of the worst things you can do is a presentation where you just narrate what's on screen.  What should be done is visually show the non-verbal items, outline, etc. while covering the less critical information through speaking.

dern kidz these days! I almost cried when they took away my overhead projector!

One of my ITC instructors did not think my stick figure illustration of why/how to make an individual fighting position (fyi, not a 'foxhole') was appropriate (not bad, mind you. she was not impressed).  The other class members including a major that was in our class funny and helpful. -- now-a-days would have been done in PP/google slides, which is still an assault on mental facilities as Colt pointed out.

[edit] Back on topic of mediums: The overhead allowed me to create something right then so there was a visual AND verbal presentation.  You can accomplish the same goal with PP, it's not the same experience though.  And I would much rather have a set of printed, well written directions over someone talking.

in the end the challenge of "both" is to avoid reusing 1:1 the material between both mediums, but it is more work. ;)
With the obvious consequence that slide sets will be used as post presentation reference material and stuffed with too much content to really serve the presentation itself. I have seen some reaaaaly bad slide sets of people who seriously hate white space...

Personally, I am a supporter of the approach of using the medium that fits the objective best - and just to be clear, that means if the picture element of a video doesn't contribute to content delivery, don't use it; if the audio doesn't have an enhancing effect, don't use it.  Text is human reader skimmable, provides an adaptable reading speed and is browser/search engine searchable. :)

That said, given we are in three digit numbers of updates and these discussion has come up repeatedly, I seriously doubt that the workflow will now change. Which makes this side discussion somewhat pointless.

Even though I already purchased the pdf, I did the workaround just to see if there was a key.

And indeed there was.

On the text vs video discussion, depending on the tools I have to hand, it can often be easier to communicate verbally than to type - especially if I'm on my phone and need to quickly pass information to someone.  This update was a quick off-hand thing specifically to highlight the workaround for the keys for Destiny, so it's not exactly a big deal.

I tend to not watch the videos unless someone mentions that there's more detail or specific info not covered in the text update, so it's not a case where where I had an investment in defending video as an update format - I only watched the video because of the lack of text!

In other cases I agreed with your take, but this is step-by-step instructions - there’s a major functional difference there between text and audio, imo.

a last comment from my side on this topic. One reason why I think video only updates are particular problematic in the context of ks, is the ks web site itself and the way information is provided over time during a ks project.

It is hard enough to look up past information by going through previous updates when they are text based, if you have to rewatch videos to find the piece of info you are looking for, it gets tedious. In a way the update in itself isn't the problem on release, i.e. it's short enough and you usually can derive its content from the comments. But a lot of repeated questions and comments to already answered topics are based on the effort to look the info up for themselves and I would bet they could reduce the traffic to their ks DM inbox if they would change that.

Aside from personal preference of reading something vs watching the same info, there's also the fact that not all these videos have worked for me.  Some haven't had any sound at all and a couple just flat out wouldn't play.

And as mentioned above, NOT EVERYONE HAS FUNCTIONING EARS.  :bang:
