Range Master Clarification
« on: 30 August 2023, 13:48:22 »
I want to make sure I'm reading the SPA correctly. The text says, emphasis added:
Quote
Any weapon attacks made at the selected rand band may swap range modifiers...

As I read this, it means the choice is made per individual attack. So, an example:

Turn 1: Esme Hugo sneaks her Hunchback to 8 hexes from an unsuspecting enemy. She decides to use her Long Range Master to get +0 with attacks from her cannon and medium lasers. Boom!
Turn 2: The bogey hasn't learned its lesson and allows Esme to get to 3 hexes. She uses her SPA for her small laser but declines for the other guns. All attacks at +0. Boom!
Turn 3: Closing to melee, Esme declines to use the SPA at all, all weapon attacks are at +0.

Is this correct?

The choice is made when you select the SPA, not per attack.

So the word "may" needs to be errated out of the description?

No, because even if you have that SPA you may decide going into that scenario not to use it.

FREX, I have Rangemaster:Long . . . do I want to swap my modifiers on a Black Knight 9 that is going into a city fight?  No, I would not want to so the SPA is not going to force it to happen every single time.

That seems to be very much a GM/player negotiation to me... ;)
