Carrying Case Suggstions
« on: 20 July 2024, 08:54:17 »
With new minis on the way, I should probably finally get a carrying case to make my life a little easier on game night.

Looking at the softer cases sold at Aries and Minis and Miniature Market as I car pool allot and those would be easier to carry but I have no idea which foam trays I should be looking for.

The Feldherr Maxi Bag sold on Aries seems to check allot of boxes, thoughts?

My absolute favorite is the Feldherr Storage Box FLSB150.

I have a Maxi Bag, but have the issue that because there's nothing rigid in it, trays can bend if the case isn't laid flat at all times. I've opened it and found that minis fell out of their spot and into an adjacent spot. I plan to put heavy cardboard in the front, back, and bottom, and hopefully that'll keep things rigid enough.

I love that the BattleTech one has a hex pattern printed on it... :)

The Miniature Market ones are the same size as the old Army Transport trays; I have a lot of both brands. For trays, the 2.5" will hold *almost* everything standing up. If you grab one 3" (or a 4" if you have jumping mechs) to hold the exceptions, you should be able to do the rest in 2.5". The trays hold 15-18 mechs, depending on how you pluck the foam.

Not a fan of the way the Feldherr box has the handle on the side so that to carry it like a suitcase you end up turning it 90 degrees.

That said if you have a LOT of minis that you need several of them, I'd imagine the boxes stack well in a closet, etc.

I have a ton of the Army foam trays not all Army brand but same size stuff in different heights & cuts.

For cases I have an old Army bag that will hold about 4-5 tray single stacked, and, an "Overlord" double sized bag from the short lived Bag Company that was doing custom BT bags a "decade?" ago.

So that is 3 stacks of trays self contained.

I also have 2 more stacks of trays that I store in a cardboard printer ink box that just happens to be a very tight, almost perfect size for holding another 3-5 trays.

Most games I just grab what I need from my force & go to the game w/ the minis in a foam lined Pens/Pencils box from the 99c store.
If I have to bring a lot then the Army bag is great for 4-5 trays & I can remove a couple if I want to put books inside it too.

I guess it depends on exactly how many minis you have as to what the best option for you is.
