Need a name for a Gundam type mech
« on: 25 March 2024, 04:14:47 »
I came up with Ravenfire and Reaper, but I think theres better ones out there. I also wanted to call it Hyperion but theres already a Gundam named as such.

My son suggested Maverick, but its too Tom Cruise for me.

Anyone have better suggestions?

So I did the Google, and got this:

https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/mecha-names.php

Maybe that can help?

My two go-to sources for names: 1.) swords (Katana, Gladius, Claymore) and 2.) mythology (Griffin, Kraken, Dragon... Battletech may have had the same idea)

In honor of the passing of Louis Gossett Jr. that I just read about.

My recommendations are....

FireWalker
IronEagle
3041: General Lance Hawkins: The Equalizers
3053: Star Colonel Rexor Kerensky: The Silver Wolves

Mechy McMechface?  (sorry, couldn't resist)

Chevalier.  Notably gundam, like most translated franchises, often uses only semi-appropriate naming conventions when they aren't just saying what it does.  ("Heavy Arms"? really? could've at least called it ROLAND...)

Japanese naming conventions can be wierd, but do have a theme.

Is it part of a series that has a theme already?  Does it have a specific role?  Maybe the pilot named it after something near and dear to themself?

I dont really follow naming conventions. Right now Im just going through BT tech readouts to grab some possible names.

Ive written it so the mobile suits and their pilots sort of form a telepathic link when they first meet, and both agree on a name.

The ones you guy shave suggested are fine, but I was looking for maybe something like a bad*** name, something that would strike fear the moment the other mobile suits detect it.

Oh, good suggestion! I think I'll reserve that name for the bad guy's mobile suit though lol.

And stay away from Rum&Monkey's Gundam name generator(It came up on a search).  I used to post there years ago then they sold it to I think a data-mining company.

EDIT: Also, there's a PacRim Jager name-generator that could work as well!.

. . .Mechy McMechface? . . .

Mc, or Mac, means, "Son of", in Scottish. The more you know.
