When I was underway, I kept the digital section of my watch on Zulu, while the analog dial was set to local (usually US Pacific, but some times US Hawaii).

I've started at a new hospital that has an embedded military unit - slightly odd system where the military provide a number of work slots from their pool of doctors, nurses etc

This means that one of the nurses on the ward is an Army (QARANC) Corporal and another is an RAF Squadron Leader while one of my SHOs is an RAMC Major. There is also a risk of running into a Regimental Sergeant Major around the place!

On the down side, I may well need to arrive over half an hour early to stand any chance of getting a parking place :(

Protip: if you're going to close down an office and give employees a friday off, sending out an email over the office email system at 6:30 Thursday night is not the best way to do it, even if your employees have the ability to check said email system at home.

I commented; it didn't seem to resonate with anyone.

So at work today a newly minted Major (neither incompetent nor a suck-up) made the following statement, "Sir, we work faster and get more done with you here."

I've been doing this for twenty years and have never heard word 'sir' preceding a statement remotely close to that. Just goes to show that anything can happen and you can still be surprised.

Unfortunately, since he said that we appear to be getting less done. Karma of some sort I guess.

I had a long day at work yesterday - left the house at 7am, not home until after 11 but now off for a long weekend

Rather than any somber memorial weekend, in Europe it seems to be more about the Eurovision Song Contest

No smiley truly expresses my feelings about that
