Hey folks!

I just got back up from up around the Paternal Old Home, known as Minnesota's North Shore. Good for a change, but it was like half the state was up North for the weekend.

Hopefully things will start looking up for you, man and soon. I know the feeling since this year had me doing all sorts of stuff to keep a regular paycheck going. Fortunately though things are definitely looking up with my last new job and I hope you get success in your job search as well.

This is the year I graduated from Grad School, changed careers, and actually literally got hit by a train. It's been one for the books. Good luck to all.

I'm ears deep in my job, I like it quite a bit, but there are some interpersonal conflicts that are frustrating me.  But, I like most of the people I work with, mot of the people I work for, and the work I am doing.  first time in twenty five years I can say that.

Hopefully less trains at the least for you, Crunch. Ouch. I once had a driver's instructor who talked about  we i.e. Texans having an odd fascination with getting hit by locomotives.  However, congrats on graduating from Grad School and changing careers.

And everything seems fine at my current job. Pay could be better, but I like what I do most of the time.

Thanks. I was actually on foot at the time I was hit. I don't remember any of it.

New job is good but involves an earlier start than my last job and a combination of bad luck and swaps has left me feeling pretty run ragged and sadly I have a lot to do this weekend too...

Hopefully November should be more restful!

Both kids are getting over ear infections, I hope.  At least the baby isn't screaming randomly in pain.  Also, I unofficially told the Marine Corps that I'll be retiring in the summer of 2016.  So there's that.

Have you got your twenty in? Or is it just that time? I am interested since my Dad did 21 years before retiring but some of his friends didn't for various reasons. Everyone is different.

That's going to be a big change Matt, I hope the transition goes well but remain convinced there is a great opportunity for management consultancy work using your USMC leadership and management skills as the obsession, in medicine at least, in airline ways of doing things is too limited and we already stole SBAR for communication. This feeling was reinforced by my understanding ofhow you train to do things from reading Chris Hadfield's book "An Astronauts Guide To Life On Earth" (also a great book to read generally).

I've now finished my run of being very very busy and so am now probably merely busy!

My fortnight of work has now culminated with an assessment meeting yesterday where I was told I'm two tiny assessments away from being completely signed off as a stroke physician (after my Fellowship year) when I complete the rest of my training (expected to be two years away).

How are they taking the news?
Somewhere along the spectrum of "good riddance to meh to darn it".  In January I'll go into admin where a LCpl will plot out my last few months.  Right now I'm thinking 1 July being transferred to the retired list at 21 years and a month or so.

But it also, "just that time".  I'll be in zone for Col '16 or '17 and without a Bn command I'd be 98% likely to be passed over for promotion twice.  I only know of three guys that were selected without one and they are life long staff officers.  I'd rather leave on my terms than someone else's.  Besides two kids under three and a new house in a place I want to live are solid reasons to stop gallivanting about the world.  I could stick around until 28 but we'd be forced to move a few times and I would be subject to separations boards.

As to what I'll do, a recent retiree gave me two pieces of advice.  First, you'll be hired by someone who knows you or of you.  Second, stay in your lane and do what you know.  Without teaching experience I'm not going to be a four year university professor right out the gate.  So a planning job it will likely be.

Thanks.  When I 'drop papers' in January I'll still have another year and a half on active duty.  Perhaps this is the time to do something about the perception that I'm a cynic.  Yeah, that might help the job search.

That's what I'm afraid of happening.  Incidentally, I was contemplating heading north to support you in the true RCT thread but the responses ventured away from the collegiate tenor I favor.  Good example with the Royal Regt of Canadian Artillery.
