Updated 3-8-14!

New file attached to this post.  .xls file available on PM request, it's too big for the site despite being only the exact same info.

Currently a work in progress that's about 85% complete, here's the latest result of my effort to catalog everything that ever had the Battletech IP stamped on it.  Waste of time, yeah, but that's what hobbies are for.

Instead of one big text list, I've been working to input everything into a spreadsheet format, which allows me to add a whole ton more information.  This is Open Office spreadsheet, which I think opens fine in Excel, but I'm not sure.  I can convert it to .xls format, but then it goes from 96k to 459k, well above the file size limit our board can handle.

For those who don't want to download and just want a peek, here's what you'll miss:

A full list of all official products, with bonus useless information
A full list of Battletech and MWDA novels
A full list of Fiction provided by Battlecorps (in progress, titles only at this time, thx Roosterboy)
A list of all Battletech licensed product, including pins, patches, dice, models, toys and Mechforce uniquie product
A list of promotional materials like posters, catalogs and tournament prizes
A list of all computer programs in the Battletech universe, including strategy guides
A list of all licensed magazine like Battletechnology, Stardate and MECH
A catalog of articles from unlicensed general gaming magazines
A breakdown of the Battletech CCG, listing card name, set and rarity (complete to Crusade)
Miniatures.  All of them.  So you all can stop bugging me for my inventory sheets now!
Sections incomplete include a complete listing of all MWDA game pieces and an index of foreign language products.

I'm always looking for input, so if you know of anything you don't see on the list please give a holler.  I can't promise there isn't an error or two here and there, but I've striven for accuracy in everything.  There's a lot more to talk about, but I know people don't like reading the walls of text, so I'll just answer questions if there are any.  Enjoy!

.xls format for Excel users can be found at the link below, thanks to Doug Glendower!

Update - 12-25-2014

Merry Christmas!  Latest update includes all product released this year (or should, at least), and I've completed the MWDA section.  Battlecorp fiction list still needs to be updated, and I still haven't worked on the foreign language product, though a couple people have sent me some excellent lists.  As usual, all input is welcome!

Is it possible to put it up in another file format?  I'm having trouble getting the .ods to work well.

When converted to .xls, it comes out to almost 500K, too much for our board to handle.  PM me an email and I'll send it to you.

Can you save it as a CSV file? That's a lot smaller and compatible with most spreadsheet programs. You'll lose any fancy formatting, but if you just want to get information out there it's a decent option.

Impressive work; I see you expanded the scope and improved the sorting since the last forum crash. Good to have this back!
Need any help with the German products?

"Errata":

- The ISBN10 of More Tales of the Black Widow is 1555601073. Says Sarna.net, and I know this to be correct because I put it there. Plus, Amazon also says it's correct. :)

- There's at least one "corrected printing" of TRO3057 (the 3rd printing) with altered (cut) content. They removed the notion that a Tramp-class variant with 4 collars and a LFB was observed with the Clans. I have both editions of the book on my shelf. When asked, Herb ruled that the report remained canonical although not neccessarily correct, because it was simply omitted and not rescinded.

Thanks for the Black Widow ISBN.  For some reason, my copy has no ISBN, neither on the back cover nor on the copyright page.  The TRO is a second or more printing, and I'm trying to work out the best way to mark those.  right now I just note that there were corrected printings in the notes column.

I'd love help with the German stuff.  I had a link from either you or Jymset saved in my PM box, but that was on the old forum.  If you've got something, please PM me with it or post here!

I take it the PM in question was too new to be included in the forum archive (you can still log in and access your PMs on the archived forum, at least up until the backup took place)?

Anyways, yes - I'll help if I can. I am essentially doing the same work for the Sarna.net BTW, trying to hunt down every last BT product. I may have to rely on your list and knowledge in a number of instances.
I can give you the entire German FanPro catalogue (I think) and I can also point out a number of instances where FanPro didn't merely translate, but expanded the material (like additional scenarios in Tales of the Black Widow, additional rules, stables and 'Mechs in the German Solaris VII box, etc.) though that list won't be complete as I don't actually own some German products.
Perhaps Jymset can help out and fill the gaps, or work down the list from the other end. My suggested modus operandi would be to email you an excel (or open office, if you prefer) file with the data and you can then copy & paste it into your master file.
May I suggest that you create a separate subdirectory for "translated" items and "original foreign language products" - I have seen Italian and Spanish novels and game products on ebay so they do exist, I just don't know if they adhered 100% to the FASA originals or added original stuff like FanPro did. May be worth to hunt down Spanish and Italian users on this forum and see if they're interested in joining the project.

That's really an awesome lot of works !! Thanks a lot :) !!

If it helps, the Tales of the Black Widow scenario pack was translated in French as "Récits de la Compagnie de la Veuve Noire" by a firm called Hexagonal. It sports the number "00501" . The last page is a translation list of 55 mechs into French (and some sounds really stupid in my mother-tongue, believe me !!)

The Box set, also translated by Hexagonal, got the number "00500", and the ISBN "0-931787-64-5 FASA2000"

I don't have Mechwarrior/Technoguerrier with me at the moment, but I can find the relevant informations if need be.

There was no other battletech products ever translated into French.

Yellow on green, it has to be none other than Mad Max.  And to be correct, he's having a Roast Beef sandwich.  (The Arby's sign gives that away.)

If Jal Phoenix declines (and even if he doesn't :) ), Sarna BTW is interested in your input!!  [drool]

I've drawn up an article on FanPro's "house magazine", Wunderwelten, but am missing issues 6, 27, 29, 37 and 48. I have a smattering of MFG and German Fan publications, but this kind of source material is difficult to come by and my "collection" has more holes in it that substance. It's curious how I managed to scrounge up more English fringe material than German fringe material... so what you mention seem to be material that we're still missing over at BTW.

Not sure from memory if I have WW #6, but the others should be in my collection. However, you will have to wait for the second weekend in September, currently I'm 600 klicks away from home.

Besides most WW issues, I have the following German stuff sitting on my shelf:
- Life Support (MFG 1) Issues 3,4, 6-8 (of 8 )
- Terra Post (MFG 3) Issues 8-11 in print and 1-25 downloaded as GIF copies (of 30+ and ongoing, I'm told - not a MFG member)
- Warrior's Guide (Nice Dice e.V. BattleTech AG, inofficial fan work) issues 7, 10, 18, 19, 21, 22
- The Inner Sphere Chronicle - Neues aus dem BattleTech-Universum (inofficial fan work) issues 1-3

The MFG 2 magazine, MechQuartely, is very elusive. I'm told four issues were made, but never saw any one of them.

I just bought Heavy Battle #4 and #8. Notice that #8 was meant to be almost a myth. I'll let you know what I can glean from those; Jal, there'll be a message in your PM box about another product.

Frabby, for your wiki, check out MechForce Germany's magazine listing, it is most informative.

Tales of the BW was different in its German iteration? You know, I never stopped to check... something to do for next week! [drool]

TerraPost is now at #31, awaiting #32 soon.

Jal, what you are doing here is incredibly, incredibly important. Where are you/we (Frabby, other Krauts like me) up to in terms of coming to grips with German material?

StarDrive 1/1 gave a full explanation for the name change in the preface. They had a falling out with FASA, but the publishers went bust after that issue, anyway.

The StarTrek Wiki (dare I say) has an excellent entry for the StarDate magazine. What is important to note for volume 3 is the sub-title of issues 5 and 6: "Your Official BattleTech Connection" - which it was at the time.

I think there's a mix-up with the MFUK miniatures listing.

AFAIK, MFUK originally produced their miniatures by themselves.

A few years after MFUK went under, RalPartha UK picked up some of the miniatures and presented them in a cleaned up iteration.

I ordered some last Sunday, which was the last day they were available. They've gone offline now, due to legal technicalities.

The Ral Partha stuff was:

MFUK001 - Mad Cat KH
MFUK002 - Warmmer WD
MFUK003 - Dreadnought
MFUK004 - Catapult K2 (RS 3039)
MFUK005 - Hades
MFUK006 - Rifleman II
MFUK007 - JagerMech IIC
MFUK008 - Hydra
MFUK009 - Katyusha
MFUK010 - Templar
MFUK011 - Tree Frog
MFUK012 - Falcon Eyrie
MFUK013 - VARIANT Weapons Pack #1
MFUK014 - VARIANT Weapons Pack #2

Technically, due to the clean-up, those are different to the MFUK originals; that is splitting hairs though. What is not splitting hairs is that Axman, Yen-Lo-Wang, both Highlanders, and Mackie ( :'( - the MFUK version looked just like the SL book one and seems to have been an original sculpt...) were never on sale by RPUK.

The "MFUK0xx" numbers above were the RPUK catalogue nos.

MechForce Germany has 2 official member 'Mech miniatures.

AFAIK, they also sold some kitbashes through their webstore about a decade ago, which have long disappeared. Should I go poking about those?

I saw them on Ebay, went to check my bookshelf, found I didn't have #8. Then I checked the MFG site and saw 8 was an extremely sought-after item. Went back to Ebay... and somebody beat me to the punch.
[metalhealth] [madflame] #P
So it was you!  :)

Bad week for me - I also managed to miss the end of an auction for 2 issues of the MFNA 'Mech magazine by 2 minutes.

Jymset, I need to borrow your magazine collection at some point. I don't actually collect these fringe products or want to own them, I just want to write up Sarna.net BTW articles about their content from first-hand sources. To think how much money I already spent on Ebay and games cons hunting them down...

If you are looking to include the stock numbers of Ral Partha miniatures, I have a ClarisWorks (.CWK format) file that has the stock numbers of miniatures that were available prior to 2000.  Some of these stock numbers are still valid at Iron Wind Metals.  [Unseen miniatures excepted, of course...]

Jymset, I need to borrow your magazine collection at some point.

I assume you'd be more interested in my English mags? I'd be hugely curious perusing your WW collection - the 50-issue run + the fact that it wasn't BT-centric at all completely daunted me into never collecting it.

Actually, I'm interested in anything that I don't have scanned or sitting on my shelf. For the record, I have the following English magazines and paraphernalia:
  • Complete BattleTechnology collection (minus the binders, and some bits cut out of issue 0203 by some idiot)
  • Complete set of Nova Game Books
  • Complete set of Blackthorne BattleTech & BattleForce comics (assuming BF #3 was never published)
  • Complete set of Fallout comics, minus the Gold Edition of Issue #1
  • Inbound (MFUK scenario)
  • Best of Future Wars vol. 1

I also have Heavy Battle issues 3-6 (forgot to include them in the list above).

I have fourteen binders of Battletech magazines.  I've considered scanning them now that I have a functional scanner, but little things like legalities and the fact the my scanner likes to turn things sideways and upside down stop me.

Since many minis were issued with multiple stock numbers, it would be a daunting task.  Right now I'm only concerned with the current stock number, or the last one it held if the mini is OOP.

Jal, what you are doing here is incredibly, incredibly important. Where are you/we (Frabby, other Krauts like me) up to in terms of coming to grips with German material?

If one or more of you guys would like to put together a list of the German language products, I'd gladly incorporate it onto the spreadsheet.  I do have my own German product list, but my spelling is atrocious and I'm not as good with the punctuation and accent marks.  I'd like it to be proper.

I'd like to hold off on any non-English magazines unless they have a very heavy Battletech focus, like the MFG stuff.  I'm trying to decide whether I should put them into the Magazines or the Foreign Language section.

I'm currently working on inputting all the FPG decals, which is very tricky since Brian has a whole lot more available than is on the FPG website.  Once that is finished I'll post an updated file, with the few extra minor changes I've made since posting this one.

The aspect of scanning something 20 years out of print by a publisher 20 years defunct does lead into interesting legal grey zones, does it not?

I know that the rare (and more/longer defunct) the publication is, the more interesting the scan would be. Oh my.

As far as the German zines are concerned, you're definitely looking at the three MFG publications (8 issues Life Support, MFG1; 4 issues MechQuarterly <aka "the myth">, MFG2; 31 and ongoing issues TerraPost, MFG3) as well as the Heavy Battle, which apparently is completely BT-centric.

On top of that, listing WunderWelten is almost a must: it was the FanPro in-house magazine, so any BT content would've been as close as official as anything on the German zine market.

Frabby, could you send me a mail? Just as a reminder to have a look at my magazine bits-n-pieces as well as getting some synergy going for that list for Jal.

I don't have a lot of experience with Google docs.  I might look into it and see what kind of stuff it can do.  I tend to stick with one program once I'm happy with it, and Open Office works pretty well for me.

Well the spreadsheet app will do everything you're using a spreadsheet for here.  You can even import excel/OO sheets into the google doc, and once you do that, it'll be the same using it vs open office for what you're doing.

(I mean, it's not like you're doing math or making graphs here ... and even if you were, I've seen some nice stuff done in google's spreadsheet app)

Currently, the Battlecorps Fiction, CCG and MWDA/AoD sections are not complete.  The CCG I believe only needs the Unlimited Edition cards added, and the MWDA game needs some of the boxed sets, and a little extra data here and there.  The BC Fiction is a tough one.  I'm still working on a way to format it so it makes sense, as well as a good listing of what's been published to date.  The current tab is kind of garbled and incomplete.

I have not input the Outrider bags yet, before anyone asks.

All contributions are welcome, but please keep in mind a few things:

1 - This list is for official or licensed products only.  No fan-made stuff, no unofficial knock-offs, no prototypes, no vaporware.

2 - If you have something I've missed, please provide proof of its existence for verification purposes.  "Something some guy had a GenCon in 1996" isn't going to fly.  Why?  Because many of you have seen, even held, the original ComStar sourcebook.  Pics or it didn't happen!

3 - Pork!

Great document, Jal!
Suggest you update the first post, too, with the current download/attachment.

One thing strikes me as odd: You have listed the BattleCorps antologies under Novels, but the Shrapnel anthology under products. They should really be classed into either Novels or Products together. Following what I did over at Sarna BTW I tend to include the anthologies among the novels (as in: print fiction), but YMMV of course.

Got another entry for your "Unlicensed and Fan Magazines" section:

Publisher: Croftward Ltd.

Notes: Review covered (deep breath) BattleTech 2nd Ed., CityTech, AeroTech, BattleForce, Succession Wars, BattleTech Reinforcements, MechWarrior RPG (1st Ed), House Liao, Kurita, Marik & Steiner  source books, Mercenary's handbook, BattleTech Manual, Dropships and Jumpships, TR:3025, TR:3026, Camo Specs, Sorenson's Sarbes, The Fox's Teeth, Tales of the Black Widow, Cranston Snord' Irregulars, Saga of the Gray Death Legion, The Galtor Campaign, McCarron's Armored Cavalry (review of an unreleased product - review said this was going to be two separate books for the roleplaying game, one for the unit and the other for the "role playing and battle campaign"), The Spider and The Wolf, Shrapnel, Map Sets 1 & 2, Blueprints, and the first four novels (Gray Death Legion trilogy and The Sword and The Dagger), plus Twentieth Century Imports model kits. Also mentioned the following upcoming products - House Davion and Periphery source books, Rolling Thunder scenario set and first two novels in the Warrior trilogy.

http://rpggeek.com/rpgissue/83800/g-m-magazine-issue-2-oct-1988

The ninth issue of G.M. Magazine also reviewed some BattleTech books (at least, according to the front cover image at:

New update including the last year's worth of releases in books, PDFs and miniatures.  I've probably added a few other things in there, but they'd be minimal.  Tabs for Battlecorps fiction, MWDA click game, Foreign language product remain under construction, as do select sections of other tabs.  Any and all missing information is welcomed, but please read my disclaimers in the first post.

May I suggest that you sort the April Fools publications (under Parodies) by year. Given that it's a yearly issue, sorting them alphabetically feels counter-intuitive. Also, while TRO1945 was an April Fools parody, it is at the same time fully canonical, as confirmed by Herb, as it's a nonfictional sourcebook and BT history diverges from real-world history only around 1988.

Your BattleCorps list ends in 2011. Roosterboy maintains a list of BC publications for download here.

The patches starting at line 352 in the Licensed Products tab... I guess you're talking about these. I wrote that Sarna article without ever holding one in my hands, working from product photos on Ebay. And then one user YSIM brought up the fact on the Sarna forum that according to the flipside text, they are MechForce products instead of FASA products even though they have FASA product numbers! The Sarna article obviously needs to be amended or rewritten, but I didn't get round to do it yet. (Photo of packaging backside attached. On the front it says "BATTLETECH PATCHES (C) 1987 FASA Corporation". Only 300kb total attachements are allowed here so only enough for one photo, sorry.)

StarDrive Magazine wasn't made by FASA, it was made by Reluctant Publishing like the Vol.3 StarDrive magazines. And while it's correct that there is no reason given for the name change (they even put "formerly the StarDate magazine" on the front cover), their editorial is notably critical of FASA, suggesting there may have been a falling-out of some sort. The existence of the BattleTechnology magazine and/or MechForce with their 'Mech/MechForce Quarterly magazine (also licensed by FASA, and in the latter case actually taken over by FASA after a short time) may have played a role, though we'll never know. See also Sarna article.

I'll eventually get around to providing you (and Sarna...) with a complete rundown of German BT material.
You'll have to decide if you are going to sort original German material that wasn't translated into the products or Foreign Language category.

Like always, congratulations for your sterling work here!  O0

Thanks, Frabby, you've always got great input.  I have several of the original patches, having got them new when they were still available.  FASA sold them directly, and they appear on many old FASA order forms.  I never got one free from Mechforce, but I did win one in a 'Mech design contest Infocom held.  The prize package (which I have seen on Ebay once or twice, totally negating the glory of winning!) included a patch, a copy of Lethal Heritage, a Crescent Hawks LAM mini, some papers I've since lost and a Battletech-branded fanny pack (also lost).

This is the first I've heard of the Infocom contest or its price. Can you elaborate? When and for which game was this? What exactly was the prize package, and what is a fanny pack?

Between the release of Crescent Hawks Inception and Crescent Hawks Revenge, Infocom ran a contest to design a new 'Mech that would be included in CHR.  It never was, but they apparently honored the contest entrants with prize packages.  For years, I thought my 'Mech had won and I'd been screwed because it wasn't in the game, then I saw an identical prize package on Ebay, followed by a second a few years later.  That's when I deduced that they just sent the things out to whoever.  The attached pic is identical to the fanny pack I got and later lost.

And because I know you'll ask:

Comnet only receives one line under Licensed Magazines. This is the MechForce UK magazine, of which there were 47 issues, though I cannot find any publication dates or other reference material online. I'm surprised there aren't any issues of this publication floating around on the internet for purchase. Even more surprisingd Sarna seems to be the only place that mentions it. Issue #47 was misprinted with the issue number of #46. If it want, and for ease, you can copy and paste this into the spreadsheet:

In regards to the BattleTechnology Binders, I was under the impression those were just binders. Did they actually sell the binders full of the 1-12 and 12-21 issues included?

I have about half the ComNet issue, I just never finished inputting that data into the list.  Thanks for reminding me, and thanks for the Commando Quarterly.  I'd forgotten about that.  I'm not sure where to denote it was electronic only, but I'll figure it out.

As for Battletechnology, yes, they did sell the binders full of magazines.  In fact, that was the only way they sold them.  There's a company selling on Ebay that somewhere found a large pile of the binders, brand new, and is selling them for a fair price.  Definitely worth it for collectors.

New attachment in 1st post.  Unfortunately, I cannot attach the .xls version of the file because it is too large.  Exact same stuff, three times the disk space.  Thanks, Microsoft.  Anyone who can't open an Open Office spreadsheet file can PM me their email for the .xls file.  Merry Christmas!

Dragging this project back into the limelight because Jordan Weisman's latest "mission" on Kickstarter is for people to show off their rare or unusual BattleTech collection pieces. This may be worth watching, if only to see if any oddball pieces turn up that we missed so far.

No, I'm not holding my breath for the ComStar "housebook".

I am making a catchup order with my FLGS. Am I correct that in 2014 the only books that were print releases were Historical Wars of the Republic and Alpha Strike Companion? What books other than Handbook Draconis Combine were released in 2015?

I know this is a little thread necromancy but this seems like the best place to ask this. I was going through the only edition of MechForce Quarterly that I got (in my year+ as a member) and I noticed something weird. The Battletech Licensee Release Schedule for the spring of 2000 mentions the following:

Quote
Palisades Marketing Battletech Collectible Toy Releases
"Palisades Marketing is proud to release a line of collectible Battletech toys-approximately 6-7 incehs tall-that come in action poses, fully painted and detailed, including damage. Check out www.palisadesmarketing.com for more information.

These toys will be available mid-December through hobby retailers and retail stores, including Musicland and Babbages.

Mad Cat (Timber Wolf)   $14.95
Atlas   $14.95

The second series, which will include the Vulture (Mad Dog) and Awesome, will release in first quarter 2000 to the mass market, availbe in such stores as Kay Bee Toys and Toys 'R' Us.

Did these ever come out and if they did, what are they? I've been able to find nothing outside of that blurb in MechForce Quarterly Vol. 5, Issue 2 .
"My name is Saul Tigh. I'm an officer in the Colonial Fleet. Whatever else I am, whatever else it means, that's the man I want to be. And if I die today, that's the man I'll be."
-Saul Tigh

Doesn't look like it was ever produced.  The company had a habit of announcing, then cancelling product lines, like Micronauts and Star Trek.

"We have made of New Avalon a towering funeral pyre and wiped the Davion scourge from the universe.  Tikonov, Chesterton and Andurien are ours once more, and the cheers of the Capellan people nearly drown out the gnashing of our foes' teeth as they throw down their weapons in despair.  Now I am made First Lord of the Star League, and all shall bow down to me and pay homa...oooooo! Shiny thing!" - Maximillian Liao, "My Triumph", audio dictation, 3030.  Unpublished.

They were not produced:  http://www.toymania.com/toyfair2000/resaurus/resaurusmechwarrior.shtml

The article says that particular Mad Cat and Vulture were ReSaurus sales samples (not even prototypes) but I seem to remember those being the prototypes from Palisades Marketing. My memory could be off, or they could have been acquired by ReSaurus from PM. I do know for a fact that Resaurus later produced much more detailed and articulated prototypes of the Atlas, Mad Cat, and Vulture that were never put into production. Those were thrown out with only one Vulture prototype reportedly being pulled from the trash by an employee.
