The Motley Crew is a mercenary unit that was made up by John J to play in this campaign.

The Solaris Liberation Army is a Op-force Unit that was made up with fanatical goals of stopping the games on solaris.

The mission was to assist in liberating a city that was taken over by the SLA.  The Motley Crew was given their own section of the town to take back with orders to capture the commanding officer and prevent any escape by destroying a bridge.
The SLA had an ace up their sleeve, even though they were mostly running older tech units, 4 mechs were outfitted with internal bombs.  The bombs would go off by the players desired causing 40 points of damage to adjacent units.  The mechs carring the bombs were the Hermes II, Cicada, Locust & Mercury.   Each mech had 4 critical slots allocated for the bombs.   Also there were 5 bombs planted on the field to go off remotely causing 40 points of damage (ECM would block the signal).   All bombs would only take affect during the heat phase, so if the mech was destroyed before the heat phase it could not detonate.  If a critical bomb slot was hit the mech exploded just as if it was triggered by the pilot.

The Motley Crew started on one edge while the SLA started in the middle near the river & bridge.  The Motley Crew sent their Fire Troop up the middle with the Locust trying to flank the left side and the Support Troop moved around the right flank.   The action started quickly with the fast suicide mechs racing ahead.  The mercury and locust went after the Support troop but were gunned down before the mechs could detonate.  But the Cicada and the Hermes II were able to do better.
The Cicada was the first mech to get close to the Fire Troop Warhammer.  The Fire Troop unleashed hell on the Cicada, but unfortunately hit one of the critical Bomb locations.  Blowing the mech up and causing 40 points of damage to the Warhammer.  On the next turn the Hermes II was able to get close to the Warhammer and the Madcat MKII after climbing over a lvl 1 building.  The Hermes II detonated causing 40 pts of damage to both mechs.

Support troop on the right flank traded shots with the Goliath, Awesome and Trebuchet.  They were able to destroy or disable all three mechs with taking minimal damage themselves.  Fire troop coming up the middle hammered into the Atlas, Victor, Battlemaster, Sagittaire, PPC carrier and LRM carrier.  After taking 80 points of damage the Warhammer fell back a bit and the Berserker charged forward in an attempt to use its TSM hatchet on the Atlas and Battlemaster.  Luckily for the SLA the Atlas and Battlemaster were able to bring the Berserker down before it could get in range (Gyro).   They then started concentrating on the Fire Troops Sunder which was able to barely survive until the end of the game.

Fire troop with some help from a couple of the mechs from Support troop were able to bring down the Victor, Atlas and the Sagittaire.  And did enough damage to the pilot of the Battlemaster  that he went unconscious  and needed an 11 to wake back up, so effectively out of the battle.

In Support troops attempt to hit the right flank they were able to get shots on the bridge, which they were able to bring down.

In the end the Motley Crew had a few mechs beaten up, but none were completely destroyed.  All of the SLA mechs were destroyed, the PPC Carrier was a stationary turret due to motive hits and the LRM Carrier had a top speed of 2.
So the Motley Crew achieved all their objectives and had a stunning success.

Lessons learned:
40 points for the suicide bombers was not enough against Heavy and Assault Mechs.  At least not worth loosing 150 tons.
When using 3025 tech, need to level BV closer, for this one went by tonnage and was even 50 tons less than the Motley Crew.  I don't think I could have matched BV due to the sides were already 12 vs 13 and I don't want to run more units than that, otherwise it bogs the game play down too much.  I also didn't want to run 13 hundred ton mechs to even out BV also.  So we will see what we can do during the second mission of the Motley Crew.  Maybe the SLA will become better financed.

I will post pictures later.

Take care
Kevin

Interesting unit make up.

The locust and the hitman seem very out of sorts with the rest of the lances.
They got particular jobs to do?

Thanks, it looks a lot better!  I wish every game group had a website like this...

Okay, more feedback.  Site isn't letting me scroll through your older pics.  It just jumps to the Units page.
