When Earthwerks gets a 'good' idea...

Hmm, the Clans are kicking the living hell out of the Inner Sphere, what can we do in 3051 to sell stuff to the Lyrans who might get overrun?
 
Hey, they like big tanks and mechs right? Didn't Earthwerks at one point sell a 175 ton tank?

So, Earthwerks Incorp, wanting to make a buck, has this idea to blow the dust off their old Soarece Superheavy MBT. It has forty tons of armor! Sure its slow, but man it can withstand a beating.

So they rip out the old trio of Autocannons and go right for the big boi of the shell firing guns, Long Tom! Four tons of ammo feed the artillery piece, which honestly no Clanner would want to get into range of.

Its weaponry is however a little light...it has six machineguns to cover all sectors and a SRM-6 rack on the front. TAG in the Turret helps it call down fire. Two anti-missile systems, each with its own ton of ammo, help protect the tank against those lighter LRMs the Clans are so fond of. It is fitted with a C3 Slave unit and ECM to help it hide. But its rather hard to hide the approach of a 175 ton tank. Finally, it has a 3 ton infantry bay to help it transport some close range protection from Clanner Battlearmor.

Not at a 2/3 movement profile it won't.

At least the 175 ton Lyran wet dream can do something with a Long Tom...

I'm a little out-of-date on the rules for on-map artillery.  How would it accomplish this?

The Long Tom Artillery Piece can pull double duty as both indirect fire artillery and indirect shooting at anything within 21 hexes. That's the reason this 2/3 super heavy tank has the full sized artillery piece. You can play long range support with it or direct fire nightmare against anything trying to close with it. The user just has to choose if they're gonna be artillery this round or 'direct' fire (Not really direct, you use the indirect LRM rules without needing a spotter).

Usually ends up being a +7 to hit a single hex within 21 hexes with 25 points of kaboom. Light mechs, hovers, anything small and fast (especially infantry or battle armor) just don't like coming within range of that big gun.
