That’s some beautiful transition work you’ve achieved!  I’d like to see shots of the mini that show both the brighter and darker sides (90 degrees off from the pics you took). I think that in order to truly sell the effect, the mini needs to be placed in its surroundings, with the matching effect there.

I am going to start on the basing as I get closer to finishing the miniature. I was hoping to include some infantry, but I am moving slower than I wanted.

Here are those angles. It does feel as though it is working, but there will be a lot of stuff to correct and tweak. Primary lightning is coming in from the front left. Secondary from the hind right.

My second miniature won't be BattleTech, which I feel will be much easier.

Those show the transitions better! They are really well done; very organic / natural looking!

Seeing the mini from these angles I think the effect sells really well. Being able to see both the bright and shade sides in one shot really tricks the eye into seeing the shading as a natural result of the direction of the major light source.

Here is here I am at working on the "sun" side compared to the shadow side. Does it seem like the idea is coming across that one side is in the light vs dark?

Seeing them side by side I think they look really good.

If you’re looking for suggestions, I might consider warming up the “sun” side even further. My logic is that the strong contrast implies a very low sun angle which might suggest a “golden hour” point in time.

I have always wanted to try something like that on an aerospace fighter for a particular concept, but never fully tried.

I'm trying to balance the lighting with the idea that things should get brighter towards the "face" in order to draw the eye in. That was one of the things they dinged me on last year. So my plan is that by the feet the midtone is practically a highlight color while by the head the midtone is a shadow color.

I'm not quite going for a low golden hour light source, but I see what you mean. That means I might have to do more work. My plan was for the light at about a 45 degree from the front left corner. I don't want to get dinged on that either.

Anyway, I think I better figured out tartan, so that is encouraging.

Working on the tartan. Lots of cleanup still, but broad strokes are done.

It's funny you mention that because I actually have a story idea for a character who graduates from a branch school on New Avalon of my alma mater.

Do you even 6mm, bruh?

Test work on an infantryman for my Highlander. I based it off the cover for The Fox's Teeth. The IWM paratrooper doesn't perfectly match, but at least I was able to include the brown shorts. I might have missed some mold lines, so l will work on another one tomorrow. Also change some things up for readability.

If I would somehow swallow that thing, I probably woudn't even notice. I painted some 6mm infantry and it is freaking tiny. This is fantastic.

Wow, that looks *very* detailed for a 6mm mini!
How actually tall is it? Is it actually only 6mm tall?

LOL! No.  Years go by and my eyes keep getting worse.  I fear the day that 28mm will be too small!

Not BattleTech, but taking a break from the Highlander to work on another piece for ReaperCon.

This mini is awesome. It was originally part of a large-scale duel diorama put out by Tom Meier. Ral Partha Legacy is currently producing it.

Looking great!

Just want to say that this thread inspired me to get off my duff and start working on an ordnance entry I’ve been noodling on for a couple of years now.

Hope I can say ‘hi’ while we’re in Denton.

There is no shame in submitting with the paint still wet.
