Total Warfare p.62 talks about units Skidding while Running or Flanking on Pavement.
Total Warfare p.67 discusses Sideslipping for Hovercraft, VTOLs, and WiGEs.
Total Warfare p.214 says Mechanized Infantry have the Movement Type of their Vehicle Type.
Tech Manual p.165 says that Battle Armor may choose a VTOL system to move as a VTOL.
Tactical Operation: Advanced Rules p.23 allow Vehicles to use Turn Modes to address Turning abilities of units using Vehicle-type Movement.
Question 1: Are Turn Modes meant to replace the Skidding or Sideslip DSRs that occur while a unit is either on Pavement or Flanking while airborne? The rule doesn't say it does, and the ramifications for failing to follow it can be worse than the normal Skid and Sideslip rules.
Example: I declare my J. Edgar Hovercraft is going to Flank using its full 17 MP. This gives a Turn Mode of 2 (3 for MP, -1 for Light Vehicle). I move the Hovercraft using 17 MP, but do 2 Turns. In both cases I wait until I have moved 3 hexes before attempting to do a Turn and moving on. Are there 2 Sideslip rolls here?
Example 2: I declare my J. Edgar Hovercraft is going to Flank using its full 17 MP. This gives a Turn Mode of 2 (3 for MP, -1 for Light Vehicle). I move the Hovercraft using 17 MP, and do 3 Turns. The first and 3rd Turn Mode limits The second turn is within the Turn Mode Limit, only moving forward 1 hex before Turning again. Does this Turn require 2 DSRs, one for Sideslip and one for Turn Mode?
Question 2: When the Turn Mode rules are activated, are Rfile Hover Mechanized Infantry or VTOL Battle Armor (like the Sylph) subject to Turn Modes while using their Hover and VTOL Movement? Or does it just not matter?
Example: I am moving Rifle Hover Mechanized Infantry 5 hexes using 5 MP. Would they need to do a DSR for any turns they make? Or does it not matter because:
(a) They are Infantry and don't do facings.
(b) They are considered Light, so their Turn Mode doesn't come in to play until 10MP can be expended.
(c) Both.
