I'm working on a detailed tonnage breakout of the Leopard-class DropShip.  However, my math does add up to the official 1,900 tons, it adds up to 1,950.  The Union-class I did something similar with is even more off. 

Any assisstance would be appreciated!

The 'mech and aerospace fighter bays include bay quality quarters for the mechwarriors, pilots, and techs.  Use some of that saved tonnage to increase the amount of consumables it carries and you're good to go.  Also, last I checked the Leopard has at least six doors (one for each 'mech and fighter).

Well, it isn't that surprising that Aerospace stuff might be a little off, but yeah, the main issue seems to be that you're assigning the Bay personnel Crew Quarters, and you don't have to.

Drop the Crew Quarters down to 7, and that saves you 84 tons, which drops your total weight down to 1866, leaving you room for 3rd Cargo Bay, and the 34 tons of cargo there in.

Huh. Assuming the rest of your math is right, the Obsolete Leopard actually worked out as printed...

Thank you.  I double checked my calculations, corrected the number of "free" heatsinks, eliminated the extraneous crew quarters, and added the "free" armor from the structural integrity.  The below looks as good as I can get it but I'm open to additional changes.  As has already been pointed out, this is the "obsolete" Leopard.

A few inconsistencies remain, notably the inclusion of 31 tons of cargo space and some sources listed 29.5 tons of armor as opposed to 30 tons of armor.  Everything else tracks well with the published versions.  Published versions I referenced include DropShip/Jumpships, TRO: 3025, TRO: 3057, BattleSpace and the Tech Manual.

It could be said that different shipyards have different versions;

DS&JS has the Leopards weighing in at 1,720 tons
TRO: 3025 (original) has the Leopards weighing in at 1,700 tons
TRO: 3057 (unrevised) has the obsolete Leopards weighing in at 1,720 tons, and the upgraded versions at 1,800
TRO: 3025(R) has them weigh in at 1,720 tons
AT2R lists all Leopards at 1,900 tons

I am fully aware that this is due to changing construction rules, but it could be fluffed as simply different versions of what is essentially the same ship.

I see no reason why any 4-mech/2-ASF (or 6 ASF) aerodyne transport with 4/6 thrust, with generally the same weapons/armor compliment can't be called "Leopard", even if its tonnage falls somewhere between 1,700 and 2,000 tons.

Heck; just looking at the Leopard and the Leopard CV, nobody could objectively say that those are the same class of ship; if these two disparate designs can be considered effectively the same, why not a 1,800 or 2,000 ton version* of the same, with any difference taken up by cargo space and/or crew comfort?


*TM pp. 184 states that aerodyne dropships can only be constructed in 100-ton increments.

Sigh, what they did to that ship just makes me cry a little on the inside.

The original "fluff" stats were awesome. 
Meanwhile those got nerfed & the upgrade model is just SAD I say.

All the earliest ships suffer from being designed before there were any construction rules. In DS & JS, vehicle capacity was determine by a combination of available cargo mass and maximum number of vehicles, which effectively represented volume. For example, the Gazelle could carry 15 heavy vehicles massing a total of 950t which could perhaps be 10 75t vehicles and 5 20t vehicles, instead of the 1500t of vehicles that 15 heavy vehicle bays would represent under later rules. The Seeker had a particularly high number of light vehicles that could be carried, with a maximum of 50 massing 1kt or less.

The DS&JS system allowed a lot of flexibility with minimal wasted mass - unlike putting a 55t vehicle in a current heavy vehicle bay, for example - but never made it into a construction system, instead we got the simple 50t or 100t vehicle bay model, with volume not considered at all.
