It was a success. It was actually on Wednesday night. We were exchanging gifts with her family before the midnight service, and she noticed that I was both quite nervous, and had a single small package for her.

She opened it first, and getting through the gift wrap, and boxes, saw what it was. It surprised her dad and brother.
WhaTever happened to asking the father of the future his permission to marry his daughter before you asked the bride?

Congratulations my friend.  I wish you and you bride to be the best.

I've had a nice day albeit strangely sober (as driving)
I hope you rectified that condition after you arrived.

No, because in this case, her father has a freight train mind. It goes places very fast, and on rails.

Also, he wouldn't have kept it a secret from her.

Congrats my friend!

I didn't ask permission either, but her sister got knocked-up and then married. So really as long as I didn't do that (or still lived with his parents) I'm doing pretty damn good.

I didn't ask either, but I must be doing something right, as I'm closer to my in-laws than my own blood kin!

Hello All,

Question for everyone.

I seem to recall hearing about an "average military/civilian" ratio in some of the post jihad reports.

I never purchased those so I'm wondering if a ratio was given for the FS (or LC while joined).

I know the US is something like 300 million population & 1 million military.  And of that its like 10 support to 1 combat.

But while that is the US, I thought they had some BT figures somewhere for planetary militias.

Also, a lot of the PUG/Miliz is going to be reservist.  Do you have any favored ratio?  I was thinking 1 Active for 2 Reserves myself.

So for example.  If we use the US Ratio & my Active/Reserve rate for a world that has 900 Million people on it, then, we get a breakdown something like this.

100K Active Duty Combat Troops.
900K Active Duty Support Troops.
200K Reserve Combat MOS.
1.8 Million Reserve Support MOS.

This seems pretty high for anything BT related.

If we drop 1/300 initial figure down to 1 in 2000 & drop the world pop to 1/2 a billion then, we get:

8K Active Combat MOS
75K Active Support MOS
17K Reserve Combat MOS
150K Reserve Support MOS

10 Infantry/Tank Regiments active with 20 more Reserve might seem a bit high but is at least a much more "BT-ish" figure and given that Tikonov in 4SW had 80+ IIRC its certainly not out of the question.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone knew of the report figures & if any for the FC were ever given.

Thank you

Happy New Year.  Now that the Second Soviet Civil War is behind us, we can finally look forward to the formation of the Western Alliance and a Mars mission in 2017.

Happy New Year everyone.

Wedding planning is real mother of a problem, and it's rather expensive. We're considering eloping.

It would be cheaper.

The benefit of marrying an Event Planner was I had little to do.  However, my Event Planner wife relied heavily on a website called The Knot, so much so that she used its sister site, The Bump, when she was pregnant.  Another tip, while elopements are cheap don't discount the bigger price on a little-girl turned bride-to-be whose dream wedding just got royally stomped.  Anyway, good luck.

Nice Idea,  I saw a couple getting married on the beach at the resort I was at down there last October.

I rented a pavillion at a city park, we got one of her closest friends to officiate(and the wedding party had plenty of spares in that department), and the reception was held in our living room, with me grabbing the food and wedding cake on the way back from the ceremony, still in my wedding outfit.
