Pine trees. Biggest offenders here, and they're in full bloom now.
On the other hand, what would be the Landes forest without them?

I'm really beginning to loath Northern IL. Arizona looks more and more tempting. Except for that whole water issue...

Never will happen. Texas will endure long past the rest of the nation thanks to cowboy literature and the films of Marian Morrison and others of his ilk. Hell science fiction has a whole subgenre that basically brings back the true Texas spirit. Even if Texas does die, it will only become stronger than Herb or any who hates Texas can imagine; it will become something akin to Arcadia.

As AW said, it is plants with their mating season. Due to the incredibly long winter, spring is going to be hell with that horrid gunk. The best thing to do is go to a Walgreens and buy something called WalAct(Note, this is the original formula of Actifed in a form that people can actually buy. Avoid all the useless junk that the Kyle's Moms of the world have forced on America thanks to the Methheads, and just get Actifed. If you live in Canada, just buy what you have access to already. Sudafed is useless. Benadryl is a placebo that makes my heart race. Mucinex just makes the mucus a little looser. This message is not from Pfizer since they basically dropped the ball when they made Nu Actifed, so nuts to them.)

Well it has been rather nice here in Lewisville. The hotel is nice enough. And the weather is like a good mid July day in Edmonton. Despite of Shadow Ravens lost passport he is meeting new people and we even where able to get me a new pair of shoes for less that I would have paid in the great wet north.

Last year July was surprisingly tropical here, after a very chilly spring. Temps started from quite low foir teh season to way above average. That felt weird.

I am glad that you got cheaper shoes probably at the Vista Ridge Mall which has seen better days, but the Cinemark theater other than the prices is pretty good.

So am I. The mall was kinda nice. And on a Thursday night almost nigh, very few people. I also have a question for you Texas folks. Is it normal not to put greats on your storm drains? When we where walking around that was one of the things I seamed to notice, and the lack of sidewalks.

The grates are semi-common. Also, sidewalks are far from absent around here, but their presence is also pretty inconsistent.

Rule of thumb for side walks, they become usually more common when closing in on a point of interest ie a park, mall, or downtown area in most Texas cities. The real reason for the lack of sidewalks is that Texas is spread out compared to most of the rest of the country. Our cities mirror this as well. Thus, it is more normal to see people take cars mostly everywhere since nothing is located near enough to each other or within walking distance. Though this is not always true. When I lived in Denton (a few miles north of Lewisville), I lived in apartment complex that was close enough to a mall called the Golden Triangle Mall which has a Barnes and Noble. Since I prefer walking over driving, I'd usually just walk to the Barnes and Noble even with the heavy construction going on there when I was living at the complex.

Most Texas cities have no real rhyme or reason in planning or style thanks to most of the construction really taking place after twentieth century oil boom that startled at Spindletop in 1901 and the invention of air conditioning. Before those two events, most Texas buildings were designed to trap cool air and were kind of small due to Texas not being that rich. We were rich in land though, and that's what people wanted in Texas: land. After the money from oil and the invention of centralized air, people built whatever they liked unless they were planned communities such as the Woodlands or Flower Mound which have stricter building codes.

Anyone heard from Arkansa Warrior? With the deadly tornadoes that hit his home state I'm hoping he made through OK. 16 dead in Arkansas as of this posting.

45 minutes or so north of me.  I'm fine.  The towns hit worst, Mayflower and Vilonia, were hit by tornadoes just a few years ago as well.  Gotta feel for those folks, but if I was one of them I'd be moving posthaste.

Sidewalks are really the only thing this area really needs. The mall is close enough that it's easy for people to walk to,which we did this afternoon as well, so I could pick up some extra clothes. Planned for a one day 'emergency stay' not the three this has become. There are a couple of decent enough restaurants near at hand as well, but sidewalks and more cross walks would be nice. Real shame is that some moronic city planner went and put a darn highway between me and Olive Garden

You know I never really cared one way or another when I went to that mall. I just walked around except of course if I had to cross the highway. At that point, the car got used. Personally, the worst part was that it had a pretty good Borders until that got closed.

Thank goodness I don't live there, never learned to drive.....

Mind you here, crossing the road can be an experience.  I find they'll try driving
over a crossing with people on it, if they think they can.  So being a tall chap, as I
cross I always look right at the drivers in a hard fashion.  Seems to work as I'm not
dead or maimed yet.  When I say look, I actually mean in that "don't even think about
being an idiot around me" way.  Funny really, for a nation of conformists they don't give
a hoot about traffic laws.

That said, there's terrible trouble here with folks driving under the influence.  But that might
just be the country for you, here at least.  Not meaning to imply that rural residents anywhere
else, are raging drunk road hogs.....though I can think of a few places in Somerset :)

As I said, wrong. Just ask all of my Kiwi, Aussie, Japanese and Irish friends...

But it's the added thrill of the separate bus and bicycle lanes that are the danger, the cars can only creep along at a walking speed

So the rule is, island nations drive on the one side, continents (australia doesn't count) on the other?

It makes sense.  I briefly visited the US Virgin Islands and discovered that they drive on the other side, even though they drive US vehicles, so the steering wheel's on the side you wouldn't want!

Ahhh the Dutch, never met one I didn't like.  Which when you think about it, is a pretty
decent thing to say about any nations folks.

Doc my Mum went over there for a week a couple of years back, said the same thing
about the traffic and bikes etc.
