Willdo - which part of the country are you in? I'm in South Wales.

There were fliers being handed out at the beerfest for a CAMRA beerfest in Swansea Bay - that's about an hour away by train, and a couple of us are mulling over trying that one out with a view to adopting it rather than the Cardiff beerex. I keep getting told I should go to the big beerex in Bristol, but I prefer the smaller festivals... and everyone I work with in Bristol looks at anything across the Severn as being about as far away as Mars, so it feels wrong for me to keep going the other way ;)

So, the wife is being induced (inducted?) tomorrow morning sometime after 0530.  Conveniently, she's decided to start having semi-consistent contractions.  Here's hoping my 0345 wake-up isn't pushed earlier.  Wish us well, please.

Good luck to all of you, hope we get to welcome another new member of Team Davion soon (and in the UK it would be "induced" not "inducted")

Yay Charlie 6! We were similar, she was going to be induced, but then Abigail decided to come on her own.

Good luck, sir!

Gentlemen, the well wishes are much appreciated.  At 1506 on 10 June, my second son Gordon Arthur was born in the very same hospital room that his older brother was two years earlier.  I'd forgotten how small eight pounds, four ounces and only 19" of baby can be.  Mother, child, and oldest son are currently in various stages of napping.

Dan, I thought in the U.S. we'd call it being induced also but U.S. Army medicine's quirks are legion.

Is Gordon a family name? I'm guessing it isn't after Alexander Davion's first loyal unit commander...

Any Davion tie-in is a coincidence.  The wife and I wanted something traditional but underutilized.  My family emigrated to the US in the late 1800s from somewhere in the UK (maybe Scotland or England).  Arthur is my Dad's middle name and we wanted something strong to go with it.  We stumbled on Gordon, and Mitchell (my first son's name), plowing through name books and discovered an English origin.  Besides, my second naming criteria was that if all else fails the boys could open a gas station together and who wouldn't want to by fuel from Mitch and Gordie?

Mahoosive congratulations!

On an unrelated note C6, the 10-yearly Census is released after 100 years in the UK so you may be able to track your family down if they emigrated that long ago

In other good news, I got hired today.  Well, I got offered a job.  The school board sti has to vote its approval, but that's usually a formality.  I'll be teaching 7th-8th grade History.  That's 12-14 year olds to y'all that may not be familiar with the American educational system.  I'd have preferred older, but it's a good district only 30 minutes from where I currently live, and I didn't have any other offers on the table, so I'll take it.

That's good.

I started spending time at a political call center a short walk from my apartment this week. I'll end up with keys to the place because I know the guy who runs it, and I'll be there regularly.

AW, good for you.

Dan, have fun.

On the alcohol front, my wife differed for a few nights but did appreciate my offer.  On the other hand, we've stockpiled a year's worth of wine shipments from our favorite winery so my motives are purely ulterior.

The only thing planned apart from alcohol consumption is ghyll scrambling (http://www.keswickextreme.com/ghyll_scrambling.html) and I've done something like that twice in Wales, last time led by a retired sergeant from the Royal Marine Commandos Arctic and Mountain Warfare Cadre... so I've already seen the face of fear! (and know what not to do next time as it's too terrifying!)

You've not seen the face of fear until you've seen the Commandos in fancy dress. You'd be surprised how many fill their personal allowance with fancy dress costumes each time it comes to deploying to Norway for training - and a remarkable number of the costumes are dresses.

I'm not sure what this says about my karma.  This morning, after some newborn-feeding and toddler-anger driven angst, I take the two year old to Starbucks with me.  I pull up to the drive through to pay for my order to find that the person in front of me decided to cover my tab.  I get home after telling my wife of my good fortune she asked if I paid it forward with the person behind me.  Since I didn't, my day has progressively gone down hill to a point that while driving home with the whole family in tow I yell at the minivan in front of me to "make the GD turn already, you whore!"

It was a nun.

Don't worry though, my karma ran over my dogma and I'm still fine.
