I thought that was due on April 1st?March 1 is the projected release date. But i don't think it is a firm date.
Something Milestones I think it was... Sound close?Yes but can't bring the whole name to my mind still.
I'm waiting for Blaine's new book.
I'm waiting on POD. I abhor reading off a tablet/screen.Diddo

Anniversary apparel for BattleTech and Shadowrun in all sizes is back in stock exclusively at store.catalystgamelabs.com (http://store.catalystgamelabs.com). And the store got a bit of a facelift, along with some back-end improvements.
I haven't heard much about PoD version of Forever Faithful, Mr. Pardoe mentions it was supposedly be available at the same time as when it's release. I've seen signs of it or would have reserved it.
"Forever Faithful" will be available on February 23rd (2/23) both as an ebook and Print on Demand (PoD).
as per the original announcement:I understand that, the still not option for Pod. At least not on Amazon.

I understand that, the still not option for Pod. At least not on Amazon.
Unless it's going be someone else?
Presumably the POD option won't be there till it goes on-sale.
not sure if PoD, but in print:
Embers of War
Betrayal of Ideals
Legacy
The Nellus Academy Incident
All four books appear to be currently available in Print-on-Demand via Amazon.
Is Legacy a PoD or just straight print release? I was able to order the other three from my FLGS, but he can't do PoD orders.
Cubby - also any update if and when Legacy might be available as an eNovel?
Thanks Cubby
Will it be available from the CGL store? I would like try to assist CGL by giving them as much of my money as possible. If not then I can slum it through booktopia or Amazon.
Thirty meters tall, seventy tons of quick-striding death and destruction, the armored war machines called BattleMechs are the front line forces...
It's a nice thought, but for now you're better off going through those third-party vendors. It's not in the CGL store and I have no timeline for when it might be.
Soooooo . . .
3 weeks until House Arano book comes out.
I guess that the whole mercenary command will be a footnote, so I doubt they will have its dropship discussed in depth.
Different question, the BT Legends epub releases have all had new cover art using recent classic art. With the Warrior trilogy, where is that art from since I do not recognize it?
Not sure where best to put this, but I thought I'd just pop in and let people know that 25 Years of Art and Fiction is the DriveThruFiction deal of the day: 40% off.

the original version with that amazing whammy piece on the front and some unseen art on the inside was pulled. i think it only was released digitally in that form. the printed version with the hammerhands box set piece had safe unseens like the battlemaster on the interior. unsure how big the run on that one was but i don't think it was pulled from distribution at any point.

Leftover con shirts maybe?
Yep. 2016 if im correct.
Thought it was 2017, same year the classic Shadow Hawk miniatures were released.
Any new sheets that folks who have older RS pdfs won't have?
"Note: This is a compilation volume. The entries in this PDF are reprinted--albeit with the current BattleTech logo--from Record Sheets: 3039 Unabridged, Record Sheets: 3050 Upgrade Unabridged-Clan & Star League, Record Sheets: 3058 Unabridged, and Record Sheets: 3075 Unabridged. Players who own those Record Sheets will find the same units presented in Record Sheets: Succession Wars."
the FLE-16 is in there. i think this is its first appearance.
Wolverine 6D, Thunderbolt 5D, Zeus 6A, and Atlas 7A are brand new as well!
Thunderbolt 5D . . . hmm, 3025 version of the -5Sd?
These new classic variants only found in the Succession War Record Sheet book?
Edit: spoiler-free impressions
Wolverine - i had never considered that. i may continue not to
Thunderbolt - hilarious, especially if your opponent doesn't look at record sheets
Zeus - a little disjointed but fun
Atlas - ? ? ? ?
Hey, we can do record sheets again!Doesn't look like it to me. Product page states all sheets are available in previous products. Only change is the new logo. That can be done without creating new sheets.
On second go through, I found a Javelin 10A.
Interesting...
the ammo is a problem.

(edit: I don't have the PDF yet, so I happily reserve the right to be wrong.)
This RS product is really cool. At this point, the only thing I think new players could use is an expansion to the AGoAC rulebook to allow them to use the standard-tech stuff in that RS file, to whet their appetites before going full TW or BMM.

Better synergy with the units in TRO Succession Wars to base it in the 2700s
It’s called Succession Wars because it was the least ill-fitting name for 500 years of unit history. We already have a Succession Wars campaign in Sword and Dragon that uses a lot of the post 2780 units. Retool that to fit better with the current line. It would be cheaper.
Does it have a note pointing them at BMM and TW?
Yeah who ever made these must have been like "Lets see what happens if I do this".
Which means that the Star League is somehow even less fitting, and surely won't result in "better synergy".
I recently had to go through and figure out what units were available for use in 2729 and 2730 for a game. It's not a lot; less than half of what's in TRO Succession Wars. Any time after that, you have to ignore Royals and any non-Introductory tech variants because those largely weren't included. Just avoid the hassle and stick to the 3020s.

I love the idea of a Star League campaign book for myself, but why for new players? The universe primer and the TRO and Record Sheets being marketed to them are geared toward the Succession Wars. I think I'd lean more toward something like Sword and Dragon, minus the prototype tech and set in the Third or Fourth War.
As an unabashed and unrepentant Thud modder, what's the warload?
That's the Alpha Strike role, correct?
Looking at the new RS, I'm just curious. When did the Cicada's Medium Lasers migrate from the arms to the torsos?
yeah, it's always been that way. weirdly, the 3C has the machine guns in the legs.
this art never helped the perception
(https://cfw.sarna.net/wiki/images/thumb/c/c9/CicadaArmTwist.jpg/497px-m26cyqfymzrogqozbfojudc43yk9cxk.jpg?timestamp=20110129232349)
Art is always superseded by stats.Occasionally it would be cooler to change the stats to match art though.
..... were made in MML....Yep they were. We also switched the logo out and and replaced the era wording with the era icon.
In my copy of RS: Succession Wars several of the designs (Devastator) has a Role heading underneath the Rules Level heading in the 'Mech Data box. That's the Alpha Strike role, correct?
It's not on every record sheet though, which is weird.
EDIT: As for the actual question, yes, that's what it is. I suspect they're still implementing the feature and have some kinks and/or additional data to sort out. They recently asked me for a MUL list of roles, as in this week. So it was probably decided it wasn't worth holding up the release for. (I haven't seen RS: SW yet, so there's a lot of assumptions there based on what little I do know).
The roles matter in standard rules for lance construction in CampOps as well as alpha strike
Occasionally it would be cooler to change the stats to match art though.
It's a lot more work though. And people don't like it when we mess with their existing stuff. :-[
Much more important that players are singing off the same sheet of music at the game table.
"Really, they're in the torso? Huh...the piece of art I saw once seemed like something else." = Not really a problem.
"Oh, that sheet is wrong, you have the old one. They're actually in the arms now, and I just blew one off, so cross that weapon off." = Problem.
Credit where it's due though; I like the new RS, but I wish we could have included the quirks on each sheet. Very cool aspect of the game now.
When we release the new version of MegaMekLab you'll have the option to print the quirks on sheets. For official sheets we don't include them as they are an optional rule.
MegaMek is used to make official record sheets.
Word* is used to write official sourcebooks.
Indesign* is used to layout official books.
*or whatever software a writer/layout artist uses.
But none of those are "official BattleTech software."
Sorry. You had me all excited that we had official design software again.
This is presumably why nobody said that in the first place.
(yes, I know that sounds snarky as hell and no, I don't know how to make it better)

Art being one of the best marketting tools we have, afterall.Grant that if it's the art from the 30 year old mech designs that we're depending on to market the game, we've already shot ourselves in the foot.
Thing is though, your minis never become "unseen" The only case where they've retroed art, is those few cases where they've *had* to. And even then, the minis aren't "unseen". Unlike games like 40K (as an example), Battletech doesn't worry too much about what the mini on the tabletop looks like, because it' the record sheet that defines what the unit is, not the mini.
Yes, there are circumstances where minis can't be used, like in the case of Demo Agents not being permitted to use the old "Unseen" for official games. But in unofficial/home games? Bet your *** I will break out my old waddly big-gun Thunderbolt (even though I love Mr. Scroggins's redone one too!)
I look forward to seeing some of the designs redrawn, and maybe even someday being able to get legal minis of them when he does them. But doesn't mean if someone brought an old Awesome or Commando sculpt to the table I wouldn't let them use it.
I've never played a an "official game" so forgive me for not knowing this, do you have to bring your own minis or does the agent have minis enough for everyone? If I have to bring my own and my Orion Mini has become unseen, does that mean I can't use it?For every event that I have attended, the
If all or even most of the old Units are going to be getting new art, does that mean that TROs are going to be reprinted rendering the old designs illegal or will they have their own book like TRO: Phoenix Project keeping the older designs still legal?

Going to joggle the elbow . . . I see the new box set record sheets on the site DL page, but I do not yet see the link for the cut outs.

The terrain cutouts? The RS book has cutouts in the back as well

This was from a May 2018 post about Box Set preview content: https://bg.battletech.com/news/box-set-preview-content/ (https://bg.battletech.com/news/box-set-preview-content/).
I got caught up in an after-hours meeting yesterday, but will start the ball rolling on this today.
Cubby, can you comment on the possibility of getting other PDF-only products as POD? Does the performance of the POD novels affect this decision? It'd be awesome if I could get all the XTROs in one handy book. And apologies if this question was already mentioned elsewhere.
it was never advertised as PoD i don't thinkAs mentioned in the previous Upcoming Releases (https://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=62270.msg1462397#msg1462397) thread (dated 11/27/18)...
the only pdf to PoD advertised on the coming releases was Capital Punishment, which is a compilation of the Jihad Turning Points set on the house capital planets.
Step into the Aurigan Coalition in this Print-on-Demand and PDF product which brings the setting of the hit PC strategy game BattleTech into the long-running tabletop experience. Learn the proud history of the Coalition and its hope for the future, then take up the defense of the Arano dynasty with four all-new scenarios picking up where the game left off. "House Arano: The Aurigan Coalition" is authored by Harebrained Schemes' Andrew McIntosh and Kiva Maginn, writers and developers of the BattleTech PC game.(bolding mine)
If the PoD isn't gonna happen, I'm disappointed. I actually wanted a physical copy to go along with the couple of House Sourcebooks I have from back in the day.
Still POD as far as I know. None of the project parameters have changed, just the timing.
so uh. time for some only mostly baseless speculation.Shadow Cat redesign, see Mr. Scroggins gallery.
1) CGL does not generally produce art without a product to put it in (or at least this was their stated policy per Ray the last time the subject came up here)
2) Mr. Scroggins has been previewing his redesigns of classic clan omnis (three so far) and the orion on his patreon page. The cover of forever faithful has a sleeker looking mad cat.
3) The proposed clan box was shelved several years ago with most of the work done
4) TRO: Clan Invasion is coming Soon™
5)
Well can the PoD be added to what's mentioned on the Coming Releases page then? It lists PDF only.

There is a lot going on, trust me. There are some clues in those last few chapters, but of course, we have a few surprises in hand.

My copies of Forever Faithful and A Splinter of Hope/The Anvil arrived today. Apparently they arrived in Ireland 6 days ago and only exited customs yesterday...I guess they wanted time to read them before they delivered them to you. ;)

Well...I'm a grey-haired Geezer and never did a PoD before, i've heard of it sure, and know what it is, but having never done it, was not sure I was actually looking at it, because there was nothing that actually said PoD or anything else.
Oh yeah, I know, and I'm all for print version! What I meant is why is it important to know on the store page if its PoD or not. As long as customers buy a print version, it shows interest in the product in that format.
Oh yeah, I know, and I'm all for print version! What I meant is why is it important to know on the store page if its PoD or not. As long as customers buy a print version, it shows interest in the product in that format.
But is it really important when we buy a book to know that it is PoD? ??? Honest question.
One negative of PoD is that you can only find the PoD version on the website of the company that does the PoD.
Forever Faithful is a really nice story. I wouldn't have thought it because I don't care for that particular Clan but I really enjoyed it.
The only nitpick I have is that one of the designs used by one particular Clan hadn't been invented yet so it'd be hard to use. ;)

Very commonly used in both sourcebooks and fiction. A keyword search of my digital files returned over 100 separate products in which that term is used. "Inner Spherers" is unique to Forever Faithful, making me wonder if it's just a Jaguar figure of speech. (Notably, "Spheroid" is not used in "Exodus Road," which has the most Jaguar speaking roles.)Weirdly, would make sense for Clanners. I mean, with them and their "proper" speech. Spheroids? Weird contraction/abbreviation/whateveritiation. Inner Spherers on the other hand is more "correct".

Aff (affirmative), Neg (negative), Batchall (battle challenge) and others aren't weird contraction/abbreviation/whateveritiation? ;)I did say "proper" speech.
I was just wondering how he wanted Clan sensor techs to report Unions and Overlords.
I looking forward to the next new release, i got squirrel (squirrel!) away some dough so i can get them when they come out. The "new" House book is one of them. I don't recall if it has much info on what going be in it, i'd imagine there will be at scenario or two in it aside from info on minor Periphery royal house no one knew about (or big wig Major Royal Houses dropped from their social parties.)
Ooooo . . . throw blood in the waters and give us a House Arano table of contents!
Soon. Different/larger announcement coming this afternoon. Drafting and scheduling it now.

Spheroids is what their granddaddy called the spherers. You can't have the new cool clankids call them that too, they had to find something else ;)

Nice, nuSeen Stinger on KH book 2. First canon look at it, right?
Yes I think so (unless it was on mr scroggin’s deviantart)All of them [except the Crusader] have been for a little while now, but the remainder of the Macross-based Unseen replacements haven't been put in a canon product yet. Looks like this is the (re)start of it.
“We didn’t make enough for full retail distribution”
Did we ever get new Crusader art? IIRC, when the others were available on ShimmeringSword deviantart, the Crusader wasn't.
Umm… none of the images are showing for me, Cubby... not sure why.
And I too hope the "exclusive" stuff makes it to retail stores. Not really sure what the marketing strategy is there, but I'll echo that printing maps on neoprene is brilliant!
I assume it's more like "We don't know how well they'll sell and we don't want another, more expensive lance packs situation".
Pins are sold out already?!
I'm using Edge, and can see the pictures down in the Aircraft and Ships threads in Off Topic, so I really have no idea what's going on up here.
I'm using Edge.
I'm probably just going to hope that those battlemaps come out in paper at some point. I like, they're just a bit more than I'm willing to invest at the moment.
I am getting the map pack
Is there any chance Mr. Stackpole's Kell Hound stories in a Pod form?
Also I'm stoked by the return of paper maps. It has been a while and these ones look awesome. 6 double sided maps is great value, too; I'll probably buy two sets so I can mix and match all of them.
Nice, nuSeen Stinger on KH book 2. First canon look at it, right?
Would have been nice if it was in the spot the Commando is in...
I heard tptb are going to be focusing on products that move the timeline forward, and not focus as much on products that fill in older eras for a while. Is that true?
Lastly, while for a while we had a decent balance of source material from the past while advancing the story, for years now we’ve only explored the past. We need to tip things in the other direction for a while before we can go back and give the two equal time again.

That’s not the intention. None of those are final TRO-ready illos. This forum really, really needs a 'like post' option.
ASCE has gone to press.

but when do more GoAC boxes arrive?
I'm told that the Map Pack, the pin, and the BattleMats are expected to be on hand at Adepticon; unsure on quantities, but expect them to be limited. This makes me very happy. >:D
ASCE has gone to press.
Can someone give me a sense of what the mats look like (e.g. do they have a lot of elevation? a lot of flatland? a lot of unusual features like rivers or large thickets of trees?)
Also, are the hex sizes the same as those on the maps that came in the box set?
Further, can the mats be folded in half or partially rolled up if my table is not quite big enough to fit the full mat? Or is it all or nothing?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Think the nice neoprene play mats for Magic or other simialr games, akin to a mouse pad, or PC keyboard pad, but obviously bigger.
Here's hoping the edges are sewn or somehow sealed. MTG mats have always had fraying problems with use, but on more recent mats I've started to see sealed, stitched edges, and they look super sweet.
Cool. We got an ETA?No, when we do it’ll be announced.
--Another commemorative product will be available: lapel pins (https://store.catalystgamelabs.com/products/battletech-35th-anniversary-lapel-pin)! Wear your BattleTech love proudly with these enamel pins bearing the 35th Anniversary logo and Warhammer.Sooo.....when's the restock on these? 8)

Got My map pack pre-ordered at the FLGS!Record Sheets are being added.
What? Surely not, it just came out. Is there something missing or wrong with it? I just scanned mine quickly.
Record Sheets are being added.

only if you want the record sheets. or you can convince nckestrel to print and hand deliver them
Always want Record sheets.
Just curios to know as I was going to print and bind the Fronc Reaches PDF, so just want to know if I should wait on that.
When will Unending Faith be updated with the AS cards?
Mike
You should wait on that.
Should that be a fan project, instead?
That's awfully hilly for a "savannah", but still a great looking map! :thumbsup:Can't see the elevations, but I suspect it's more like "holey."

Several people have asked so here are the non-Grasslands sides of the neoprene mats
Do the mats come in 4" hex-grid sizes? 2"?
Love both the map set and the battlemats, but can't afford to buy either until they're available from UK retailers. Shipping adds ~65-70% to the cost and that's just too darned much, never mind the risk of getting sting for 20% import duties :(
Any idea when/if these products (and both new box sets) are likely to be available in the UK?
Do the mats come in 4" hex-grid sizes? 2"?
Any plans to restock L and XL Hoodies?
I got the email today, but I still can't track it. :-[
Stupid stealth armored shipping containers. ;)
How about some action shots of the new neoprene mats. I'm curious to see if they look good, but the "similar products develop ragged edges" issue mentioned earlier gives me pause. (Maybe I could use a clothes iron and a sheet of silicone paper to seal the edges?)
Got mine yesterday. *Hoping* to get some video and photos up on the official social media platforms and here on the forums tonight. (But sleep training the nine-month-old, so I may just curl up in a corner in the fetal position instead.)
hahaha . . . Carebear Kodiaks and My Little Balius!
speaking of clanners... TRO: Clan Invasion update? O:-)
Could we get a teaser of the House Arano book? Maybe a table of contents page or some such?
Still in progress. I'll share what I can when I can.
the mat is listed as 35800 on the box, which is the same number as the first BattleCorps anthology.
I have a question for anyone who bought the recent POD editions of the Warrior Trilogy;
What was ever done with the handful of references to Team Banzai in the books? I remember them figuring on a off in the background.
I just watched Buckaroo Banzai for the first time and I had no idea they borrowed so much.
I know the Team Banzai was an issue for the same reason as the Fighting Urukhai.
The novels themselves weren't touched, so all the references are still there. The only thing changed were the covers and the mech/vehicle images at the end of the book.
I got a tracking notice yesterday, and my maps are already scheduled for delivery. I have to say - that was *blindingly* fast. I even have a game scheduled for this Sunday to give them a test-drive.
It's a little late but it's here!
The year of Battletech rolls on with the release of "Turning Points: Tokasha"!
"As the Golden Century drew to a close, Clan Hell’s Horses christened a massive new OmniMech factory on Tokasha as the foundation of a new age of prosperity."
https://store.catalystgamelabs.com/products/turning-points-tokasha
We're also happy to announce that the revised "Operational Turning Points: Fronc Reaches" is available to download.
So reading the new Turning Points love it but now makes me want TRO Golden Century any update on it.
Our first units with Improved Standard Weapons!
that nightstar in fronc :o
Isn't it the same one from Spotlight On: Holt's Hilltoppers?
These are offered in standard Battletech map he sizes, if you need custom sizes there are sites that can do that.
Oh, sure. I'm aware of Hotzmatz. But, can they do your specific mat art? Or, am I left with something more generic?
holy moly! the fox. minsk. the mongoose and lancelot c. an omni corvis?? this is loaded with good stuff. hopefully we'll eventually see some art
So reading the new Turning Points love it but now makes me want TRO Golden Century any update on it.Totally agree with you, it's awesome Turning Point, specially extra stuff that came with it.
Be interesting to see the reasoning of the improved Stds rather than using SL issue.
They are between SL and Clantech.
The Minsk and Fox are very interesting, even if the former is quite ridiculously slow for its weight.
Well you see kids, when a Warhammer and a Hammerhands love each other very very much...

And early Omnifighters .
Really TP Tokasha is a preview/companion piece for TRO:Golden Century.
Go buy it :D
Can't quite figure out how to make that Tinstar...
As much as I like details about new product isn't this thread about Upcoming Releases?
Instead page after page updates on shipments(yea thanks for letting me know that YOUR stuff arrive) and discussions about equipment dotted with spoilers.
Can't we just move this to thread for the respective product?
I myself am wondering at the logic of those omnifighters having SHS though....
A new series of exclusive Print-on-Demand (POD) sourcebooks will kick off with Capital Punishment, a collection of all Jihad Turning Points involving the Great Houses’ capital worlds.
I'm going to get this, aren't I?
Any way to let me know how and how much it'll be to get?

Precedent allows for conversation a few days to a week after release. If they really wanted to stop such conversation they’d not put product release announcements in this thread. The mods have steered things back on track if it goes on too long
AFAIK that blurb is basically all we know about it. I don’t recall it being acknowledged as a thing anywhere else
tbf Capital Punishment sounded like a lot more than a philosophy about content but i get that plans change (or were never that concrete to begin with)
I keep clicking refresh for the Cubby teased House Arano Table of Contents.
So, BigDuke66 is not totally incorrect. I probably should have created a "NEW RELEASE: BattleMats" dedicated thread for discussion of those, just as I've created similar threads for the Winter PDFs as a whole, the boxed sets, etc. That was just an oversight on my part, and my sense is that the BattleMat talk is too interwoven into this thread now to be split off. (A mod is more than free to prove me wrong.)
To get us sort of back on track, I'm really looking forward to TRO:Golden Century and TRO:IrregularTech. The IrregularTech because I think I could use units listed there in any time frame, and the Golden Century one because I've long been interested in the Star League to Clan "bridge" units. So far TRO:IrregularTech disappeared from any mentioned aside people whom were interested in it. Im not sure were going get it anytime soon. Im just glad some movement going on with Golden Century.
Hey Cubby, any chance that fifth battle mat may appear on the CGL store?
It will not be, it's an exclusive at this time.Bummer, but thanks for the info.

XTRO: Manufacturer set in 3150 would make an excellent series

You know you can link to individual posts so that we don't have to comb through an 11-page thread looking for your reference, right? Just FYI.
But thanks. So you are referring to just the stats. I wouldn't say they were "written-up" but maybe that's just because I'm a guy who prefers fluff to stats.
And I'm fairly sure that the models in IrTech are different from the ones that have already been published anyway.
Sarna tries to be accurate about what it reports, citing each entry with where, what page, etc.
I honestly believe that TRO would include all-new stuff verses just rebranding of old ones.
They more likely brand new MOD and forgotten ones.
Either case, i'm hoping a new TRO will grace our CGL store and other distributors soon.
There are a couple of online stores where I've seenCombat Manual: House Davion on preorder for some time. Is this really coming out soon?
It’s been on preorder in some places since before CM Kurita
Which means jack because these stores pull these things from gods-knows-where sometimes when they've not been announced or in some cases, even considered.
Whatever happened to those novels that got announced few years back by the way? Think there was a Case White novel and something else? All cancelled or fallen into backburner? I mean, i think they were announced before the new line developer.
The Case White novel was in progress when Victor Milan died in February 2018. From the obit I wrote at that time (https://bg.battletech.com/news/passing-of-victor-milan/), Fiction Director John Helfers said he intended to assign an author to finish it. Where that falls among the fiction priorities or what its status might be at this time, I don't know.Oof. RIP. I vaguely recall reading he died but forgot Milan was writing Case White.
The Stackpole Kell Hound novellas and the Brozek young adult novels were announced back then as well, and they've just recently come onto the market (or will soon, in the latter case). The other items on that list may still be in the pipeline.Ah, right, Kell Hound stuff.
Betrayal of Ideals ebook
Will have to check the internet wayback for previously announced but removed items
It's available as a Print on Demand volume (https://www.amazon.com/BattleTech-Betrayal-Blaine-Lee-Pardoe/dp/1520399626) as well, ICYMI.
Let me save you the time: the answer for anything you find via that method will be, "If it was removed, it's because it's not currently being worked on."
Please don't make me field a bunch of questions about Shadows of Faith or anything else you're able to dredge up.
Is there a way to see what era a particular novel is in?Legacy covers from the Grasshopper's creation when Star League Civil War broke out to the end of the Jihad where it was part of the Stone's Regiment liberating Terra.
Is there a way to see what era a particular novel is in?
Some new fiction that advances the timeline is coming...I swear by the old gods and new.
Blaine "Buck" Pardoe
If it's even half as good as Forever Faithful, it will be well received. If it actually advances the timeline, a welcome bonus! The 3140s could certainly use more quality fiction for one of BT's most interesting eras IMHO.
What era is that new book set on?
House Arano book comes out soon; still on track for 4/26 release?A Catalyst release is never late; It is released exactly when it means to. ;)
I would like apologize to the community and beg your patience a little further. We have to postpone the release of House Arano: The Aurigan Coalition until May 31. Key people involved have been tied up getting other projects across the finish line, and we still need a proper buffer before release to allow for testing of the POD system, as this is our first time using it for this type of product.
House Arano: The Aurigan Coaltion is now in editing, with design and layout already started. Turning Points: War of 3039 Vega will be released later today. Next week we’ll show you some previews, along with teasers for the upcoming Alpha Strike Commanders Edition.
Thank you for your patience and continued support.

New Release Date for House Arano: The Aurigan Coalition
Please see the message below from Ray Arrastia, BattleTech assistant line developer, regarding a new release date for House Arano: The Aurigan Coalition:
No, I appreciate the date . . . it lets me plan, in the case of the Arano book, two or three months in advance to put the money in the budget. Guess we are buying popcorn with Endgame!
It sucks, I know. I’m sorry.Just make it worth the wait. ;)
Guess I'll have to get one of these to fill the void...

Is there a usual day of the week these kinds of things are released? Not really. There reasons why they dont publish the release dates.

Thank you...I feel I have potentially caused a misunderstanding by not adequately framing my question...what I meant was...is there a usual day of the week when they release previews and teasers, not is there a usual date for when they release new products for purchase, which is what I think you thought I meant, which was my fault.

This last wave of mini-PDFs were targeted for Friday afternoons, though the exact hour varied. We slipped weeks on a couple, but with one exception I think they were all on Fridays.
I generally try to target announcements of new product to Wednesdays or Fridays, though needs occasionally vary.
But yes, teasers and other content are posted when they're ready and as time in our schedules allows.
Question I haven’t thought about; why do you guys not offer preorders through the catalyst website? I always wondered about gay.
The last part of your sentence is ripe for a humorous reply :)

Kit must have been locked in a closet by the mods, bound and gagged.
Well, crap. They've figured out Rule #1 of Getting Weirdo's Money: Put a Marauder on it.
Is Rule #2 "Put more Marauders on it"? Or is it "Put some infantry doing shenanigans on it"?

Has the Commander's Edition been previewed elsewhere? I can't recall hearing about this before and it's not entirely clear to me what the actual product is.
just the cover. it seems to be a melding of AS and ASC (with not insignificant changes) so they only have to print one book
It includes all to date errata plus some other changes both minor and major, is much easier to reference, and is laid out significantly better.
Kinda, except better. Unlike BMM, it doesn't leave out the really interesting stuff.
No.
Correction: It doesn't leave out all of the really interesting stuff.
Now, converting warships to use mech rules in order to have major fleet engagements. We are talking here!
No, but in Battleforce you can do it if you print on both sides of the sheet.
So, for the Commanders Edition... if I bought the new book, then got rid of my AS rulebook and my AS Companion, would I be losing anything other than warships?
Was that the entire ToC? I'm really surprised by the lack of conversion and PV rules.
So the Commander's Edition is essentially the BattleMech Manuel for AS?
Think of it as the Captain Planet of updates. It'll be more powerful than AS and ASC were on their own, and on top of that there will be magnificent hair and no pants.Just how magnificent are we talking here, something on this (http://www.gearsonline.net/series/fivestarstories/characters/images/spaccorn1.jpg) or even this (http://www.gearsonline.net/series/fivestarstories/characters/images/aisha1.jpg) level?

I noticed the formation building rules, will these have any notes or suggestions on factional flavor since the Combat Manuals are canceled? I'm not asking for super-in-depth stuff, but just if it's pure vanilla or has some sprinkles on it.

Warships, quirks, conversions and PV calculations are not in ASCe. The Table of Contents was posted on Facebook. It would be more specific than me.
Using the Quirks gave the mechs flavor so they will be missed :(
Quirks I'm waffling on. They are certainly interesting, but hardly necessary and not particularly helpful for game balance. There was a decent amount of work invested in them, but I am a proponent of limiting 'optional' rules in AS so I can't really complain much about leaving them out.
I'm curious about Touring the Stars: Gulf Breeze, if there will be big space station or something in it.
I think it mentions the MUL a couple times, but the formation building rules are largely the same as from the Companion, along with some minor rebalancing of the various Lances (and a couple new ones under "Combined Infantry and Transport Formations"). There's also a much better explanation of how to use Special Command Abilities for your entire force. That part is very similar to the Combat Manuals, though it doesn't come with examples; more it's how those abilities are governed.
Following the steps under "Force Building" will let you build your own units that would not have looked out of place on a Combat Manual page.
No, it's not correct. The conversion rules in the Companion aren't changing, but they are being left out of the Commander's Edition for both space and availability considerations.
You are no more required to use the MUL with the Commander's Edition than when Alpha Strike first came out: it's really damn convenient if you do, but barring a few pieces of errata/updates to correct mistakes your cards all still work.
OK. The Companion has the conversion rules. So if I want to make custom Mechs to convert to Alpha strike then I either have to buy the older companion book or wait until the PDF with the conversion rules appear.
For the moment, yes. I'm sure if you'd prefer to do neither of those things that someone would be willing to help you do that in the meantime.
The Battle map / mat is already sold out. Any chance for a re-stock? Or alternative place to get it from?
Any chance the 5th one will go up for sale on the CGL online store?
For the time being, it's available only as an agent exclusive OR for purchase a major convention when you buy the other four BattleMats at the same time. Future availability has not been determined.

Sadness! I purchased 4 Mats at the same time on the website! Let me throw more money at you!
I'm fascinated with this JMPS and JMPW mechanic mentioned in the preview page. I like the idea of mirroring the fact that all jump jets are not made equal. If it's something that can be talked about, how do the specials get added to specific 'mechs? Are they codified quirks for certain models whose fluff mentions particularly good or poor jets, or are they based on the sheer number of jets the 'mech carries or some other metric?
It will be detailed in the book, I'm not sure if they're prepared to discuss it yet.
Just saw this pop up on Catalyst's Instagram...

Very cool, I'm really looking forward to ASCE,...what Mech is that on the front cover, I can't make it out...also, is that a hard copy re-print of the Tech Manual, that's mine as well???
Looks like a Thunderbolt losing an arm.
Looks like a Thunderbolt losing an arm.Damn machine gun ammo!
How interested are people in the Spotlight series? I ask because I've realized that if and when we jump ahead to 3250, most, if not all, of the units that exist now and are getting Spotlights are going to be gone. Or at the very least their current line-ups will be gone, possibly replaced be a new group calling them selves the same thing, but with no connection to the original group.
Sounds like the Spotlights On would be the perfect product to introduce the new small units then. Why, they're going to be dead soon.
Why, they're going to be dead soon.
I'm excited to see a fresh new part of the inner sphere, learn about its people ... and plot its conquest ;) The preview art is gorgeous and love the FASA era throwback credits page.
Cheers,

Argo record sheet... should I be excited or should I panic? :DBeing that it also has an entry in the "Rules Annex", I'm going with "excited"...
Any estimates when we can expect the PDF?

True, but it's incredibly likely. Or rather from what we know it's incredibly likely. What, exactly, do "we" know? The only thing I can think of that will kill them is poor sales. Have TPTB made an announcement on that?
What is the book under that Alpha Strike book?
Sorry if this has been already answered

The AS:CE has a T-bolt on the cover.
And yes, that’s a print proof of the previously announced reprint of TM

So my silence isn’t misconstrued as confirmation: I have no idea what this opinion is based on.
Your gaming group must be very boring if they insist that everything you do must be on the absolute bleeding edge of the timeline. I take it you don't purchase any historical products either, never ever play 3025 games, and so forth?
I think it stems from the pop culture purge Herb did during the Jihad era. Could be wrong.More the impending ilClan (Both book and actual in-universe state [Is the book still slated for GenCon this year?]) and the 100 year time skip that come with them. Pretty sure every existing mercenary command will cease to exist during the intervening time, heck it's possible that the Successor States no longer exist.
I’ve had 30 years to play 3025. I would like to get back to bleeding edge for a while.Beyond that BT has been pushing an 'all eras' approach for the last, what decade? And an more then just a board game angle for the same time. 3025 material only appeals to people want to play the board game in 3025.
More the impending ilClan ... the 100 year time skip that come with them.

Um, did I miss something? I don't remember seeing that anywhere around here before. ???
I think the ilclan time skip thing was a Herb & Ben era idea, which as far as we know has been dropped.OK, for those somehow not in the know Herb at one point floated/posted to these boards the idea that after ilClan (the book) came out there would be a jump forward in time to 3250, some, possibly even most, people weren't happy with and for a long time that was all we heard.
Probably a good thing it has as well, since based on Ben Rome's blog, the purpose of it was to setup Jihad & Dark Age 2.0. And we all know how popular that was the first time.
I hope there's no time skip. I just want more BattleTech and BattleTech lore. For the reasons I've explained above, this looks doubtful.

The IlClan shouldn't be that big of a jump. The basic ideas of how it ends were decided years ago on a table at gencon.
This is not how books are written. Anything that happened at GenCon under the previous line developer has as little to do with IlClan as I do. I'll be surprised if it matches even a little bit.
I'm in the know; I was pointing out that there is very, very little evidence for a timeskip outside of what Herb said 5+ years ago. Herb is not the line developer, even if he was at the time. A lot can change in five years.I distinctly remember a big planning session that Herb posted teasing photo's from at some point, plotting out the story beyond ilClan, presumably all the planning is still somewhat valid, and these two snippets from the latest sourcebooks wouldn't line up with an ilClan existing if one doesn't come into existence.
Which is a long winded way of saying we have no idea what's coming and that such assumptions aren't well supported unless your name is Brent or Ray. Normally I'd leave speculation of that nature alone, but the way it was introduced was really loaded in a way that doesn't play well with the... excitable nature of this thread in particular and this forum in general.
Beg to differ.Indeed, and speaking of myself, I was part of the group that were positive to the proposed TimeJump with equipment/tech reset.
There was also hints at a rules overhaul - completely new set of weapons to boot, with all existing stuff relegated to "obsolete".
Some (most?) players voiced concerns about gameplay after a suggested radical revamping of equipment options. (There was talk about reducing the options to more generic weapon systems and making all existing equipment "obsolete" in that it hardly scratched the new super-armor, or something like that.)
Others were unhappy about a time jump, i.e. a proposed gap in the timeline that would then have to be backfilled. That had worked so-so for the 20 Year Update and many were apparently unhappy with the Jihad/Dark Age time gap (and/or how it was backfilled).
According to my vague memory, a handful may even have complained about the very concept of an ilClan existing, or any major change to the starmap.
So while there was a lot of typical internet angst bandied about (which CGL felt amounted to a negative feedback), different people had different opinions on different things. My personal impression back then was that my own "sit and wait, and judge it when I see it" attitude was actually the most widespread among the fanbase, albeit not the most vocal.
Indeed, and speaking of myself, I was part of the group that were positive to the proposed TimeJump with equipment/tech reset.Yep, people complain about having to carry lots of books or about rules complexity, well this would have fixed things.
Such a missed opportunity.... :( :'(
I distinctly remember a big planning session that Herb posted teasing photo's from at some point, plotting out the story beyond ilClan, presumably all the planning is still somewhat valid, and these two snippets from the latest sourcebooks wouldn't line up with an ilClan existing if one doesn't come into existence.
So the time jump to 3250 is still on?? I thought that was quietly shelved??
It’s not an active thing.
So what does everyone think of the Argo making into the game ?
new Atlas II
I'm happy and curious about Argo.
There another thread to discuss the details of PDF books (and PoD) content.
schrodinger's extinction: extinct until observed as not extinct
So due the actual End of the Dark Age storyline, when can we buy ilClan sourcebook?
Has been a while, since we have gotten new stuff for story continuation. :(
You know . . . the book that came out last GenCon moved things forward? Since it had not for years before that, complaining about timeline movement is a bit disingenuous.Well, you know ... this was almost a year ago and IMHO that the timeline did not move for some years is nothing what fans and customers shhould so simply accept.
Well, you know ... this was almost a year ago and IMHO that the timeline did not move for some years is nothing what fans and customers shhould so simply accept. That's one possible view.
That's one possible view.
Another is that the timeline is arguably too long already, and must advance only very slowly. We're dealing with third and fourth generation protagonists already. Reset the board too often and it becomes meaningless.
I'd rather prefer CGL to explore each era in great depth and breadth.
Anything in the pipe about or mentioning Homeworlds?
This is my view as well. I think there is more than enough of a time period for players to choose to play in...each time period has thousands of planets and lots of factions, Merc units, upstarts, pirates etc, etc to fight with/against and there are literally hundreds of different unit types to utilise and the scope of missions or campaigns is only limited by your imagination...I'd be happy to see the time line go no further and instead have each time period to be filled out with more cool content. The problem is that 3025 is, at the very least, very old school, and if your trying to bring in newer players it's probably not the best choice of material, at least as far as setting go's.
It might not match with the idea of fiction driven timeline progress which currently seems to be the plan, but I'd say there is a fair argument ilClan should be the last major "era".If Legacy is anything to go by I think that the possibility of fiction focusing on small units is unlikely going forward.
It provides a reasonable wrap up from a narrative point of view (the reestablishment of some form of loose clan style Star League), provides plenty of scope for smaller fiction driven progress within the era, and would stop thinning the fanbase over more time periods. There WILL be era's after it, if anything it will likely serve to close out the current epoch of BT.
Anything in the pipe about or mentioning Homeworlds?I'm going to guessing it will be covered in ilClan.
Just trying to complete a unit that has a certain origins there...
TT
Anything in the pipe about or mentioning Homeworlds?
Anything in the pipe about or mentioning Homeworlds?Nope.
If Legacy is anything to go by I think that the possibility of fiction focusing on small units is unlikely going forward. That is however the eventual goal.
We currently have ~700 years of playable timeline (2450-3150). The question that has to be asked is what does more timeline offer us from both a gameplay and narrative perspective? We’re at the point where I feel like advancing the timeline for the sake of advancing the timeline isn’t enough any more.
Love or hate the old 3250 idea, but it was to offer a substantive change to both the game and structure of the universe. If it’s decided to move past 3150, itshould both have a clearly defined feel that isn’t just “ok everyone’s still fighting but now the wolves are the most powerful and here’s ten new toys”
Anyone who says they know anything about the Homeworlds these days has been using that pipe.
If Legacy is anything to go by I think that the possibility of fiction focusing on small units is unlikely going forward.
Yeah, have to wonder how you got that idea . . . we saw none of the regular story units in the book (WD, GDL, KH, DBoG, etc), were introduced to several small bands that likely went bust which was part of the reason the machine passed into other hands. Throw on that we got the KH starter trilogy, the new box sets have fiction for Carlyle's Commandos which was small unit, even the new novellas one had the early POV character being a small merc command.
Yeah, I'd love to see a timeline of the Carlyle's:
COLBY COMMANDOS -> CARLYLE'S COMMANDOS -> GREY DEATH LEGION
So, there is defintely a story there on How Colby's Commandos becomes Carlyle's Commandos
Galatea, 30XX
The young adept scrunched his nose, attempting to make out Durant's handwriting. "Colby's Commandos to Carlyle's commandos?"
"Yes" Durant nodded in agreement.
"Fine." The adept notarized the form. "Your form CSMB341.32D-P has been officially processed and fee processed from your escrow account. Please allow five to ten business days for the official listings to change at the hiring hall."
"Great, thanks." With the day's work done, Durant Carlyle wandered off to find a bottle to drain.
The problem is that 3025 is, at the very least, very old school, and if your trying to bring in newer players it's probably not the best choice of material, at least as far as setting go's.
Also, 3025 is a good starting point for new players to get into the game because of the lower Tech level and smaller amount of unit choice (although still providing a great variety of Tech and units). And that's wrong. Limiting gameplay to specific eras is a bad decision, to say the least. The system would be better if newer gamers could play at any setting they like, but using simpler rules.
That's one possible view.
Another is that the timeline is arguably too long already, and must advance only very slowly. We're dealing with third and fourth generation protagonists already. Reset the board too often and it becomes meaningless.
I'd rather prefer CGL to explore each era in great depth and breadth.
Older eras are already explored enough. It is hard to believe that you didn't have enough time to enjoy all the eras and digest their stories IN THE PAST 35 YEARS. Heck, we are stuck in Dark Age for the last 17 years. The plot advanced only 18 years in-universe (3132-3150), kinda hard to be slower than this.
Warhammer 40K and Star Fleet Battles say hello. Also the original White Wolf RPG line was static until they had their "end of the world" / reboot.
I can't disagree more

To be quite honest I have simply accepted that Battletech isn't a game for me. Never seen a fan base so averse against moving forward.
That is however the eventual goal.Sorry Adrian, could you clarify this a bit.
Yeah, have to wonder how you got that idea . . . we saw none of the regular story units in the book (WD, GDL, KH, DBoG, etc), were introduced to several small bands that likely went bust which was part of the reason the machine passed into other hands. Throw on that we got the KH starter trilogy, the new box sets have fiction for Carlyle's Commandos which was small unit, even the new novellas one had the early POV character being a small merc command.Legacy was like nothing we've gotten before, and while the individual stories that make it up might be as you describe, the overall narrative was not. Would you be all that interested in buying any of those stories, or even all of them, if it wasn't for that narrative? Do you think it would have sold anywhere near as well if the book wasn't about that it was, but just a random collection of short stories from BT?
That's a fair point, SCC. I guess all it would take to make it not "Old School" though, would be to have new and modernised (aka MWO style or similar) artwork commissioned for the TRO's and give them a more modern format, (keep the new plastic modernised mini's coming too). The tech level is good for introducing new players, but the setting is too dated, based upon meme's that don't grab anywhere near as much attention. If you wanted to rope someone into BT would you show them art from that era or more modern stuff?
Also, 3025 is a good starting point for new players to get into the game because of the lower Tech level and smaller amount of unit choice (although still providing a great variety of Tech and units).
...and having Alpha Strike helps a lot as it allows more people to get their game on more often, when otherwise they might be too time poor to indulge in a CBT game.
That's one possible view.Just about every BT book depends upon timeline expansion
Another is that the timeline is arguably too long already, and must advance only very slowly. We're dealing with third and fourth generation protagonists already. Reset the board too often and it becomes meaningless.

Just about every BT book depends upon timeline expansionWith all due respect, no. Only the "spine" novels do. And for me it's become a real problem. Whenever there was a new Stackpole novel, I was like "oh noes, what's he gonna do to the universe this time"?
That’s looking very unlikely, and until now that hasn’t been stated or hinted at.So to clarify.. We're not likely going to be going to get a new book as a sequel wise to Shattered Fortress this gencon? I know things take time and frankly it sounds like there's been more reshuffling going on in the background than we had thought. So does these small comments and hints mean not to expect much but what was announced is coming out? This sort a kind of leaves people hanging here.
Just want expectations to be clear.
40K has advanced over a hundred years in the last two, it's not exactly one to hold up as an example. Star Fleet Battles is based on a property that has advanced decades in the last ten years (though I rightly don't know where it is now or exactly how recently that happened) thanks to Star Trek Online.
You may want to update your go-to examples.
40K has had one advance. And SFB *can't* advance. It has no connections to Star Trek Online.
. Star Fleet Battle is milking nostalgia of the TV series
But hey... House Arano tomorrow, hopefully?
Flags, pics, and wireframe art? Thanks for the taste . . . from the ToC and this, I assume we are getting the PC group called Rampart Company . . .How did you forget Glitch? The fifth is the PC.
Out of curiousity, why no Decker, Behemoth, Medusa, and the other two I forget the names of as members? They were the original pilots. *starts looking at pages*

People were posting assumptions and I corrected them.
If true it will fell disappointing of a summer. New rule books dont get me really excited. New stories and other things to.I’m sorry. The stories aren’t our only focus.
Canon In-universe magazine would at least keep us feeling the game a more living thing such as Battletechology did than these big gaps of low activity.I would love this. Actually, I don’t know anyone on staff who doesn’t love this idea or doesn’t have fond memories of BattleTechnology. There’s been several proposals for it. However, I haven’t been shown that it’s even remotely financially viable. And while everyone from the owners down the the most casual fans may get stars in their eyes when this is discussed, I’ll bring up the bottom line every time.
Wait?excellent catch. I was going to post a zoomed in pic to drop a hint, but you already got it. :)
The Star Group?
Isn't that one of the predecessors to Interstellar Expeditions?

Touring the Stars?
I was looking forward to Gladiator Gazette but ether I'm the only one hungry for more Solaris or IlClan and whatever is following it is taking up all the available writing talent that would be needed to crank out the mini PDFs at a regular bases.
And paying the writing talent. Their kids like to eat too, you know.
Yes, PDF makes it easier/cheaper to distribute a product. But all the work that went into it has to be paid for.

Bosefius, is the quality of the POD book high enough? I mean is it comparable to the other perfect bound books we've received from CGL? (I'm willing to try POD but if the pages fall out three days after I get it because of crappy glue I'm going to be annoyed.)My POD copy of Forever Faithful is indistinguishable, quality-wise, from previous CGL books - to the point where I suspect the other books (Betrayal of Ideals GenCon edition, The Nellus Academy Incident, The Anvil/A Splinter of Hope, BattleCorps anthologies) were produced through a similar process even if they weren't POD.

Well, they ARE trying to make this one in the style of the original House sourcebooks. Crackling glue and loose pages would just be an homage. ;)

That said, my Forever Faithful copy has an Amazon imprint indicating a German production facility. I know next to nothing about POD logistics, but I strongly suspect there's a number of production sites scattered all over the globe. And the quality of the end product will likely depend on the specific site that produced it. (Though Amazon will strive to make all output as equal as possible, quality-wise.)
Looking forward to holding House Arano in my hands, and am excited and curious about how it will turn out.

How do you think they named the characters in the game? ;)
Right when I get kicked in the shorts financially. Going to have to wait myself :(
On the topic of failed bindings, my original mercenaries handbook binding just failed after years of tough love.
This looks good. I don’t know anything about this house though. Could someone give a brief timeline run down? When is this book ‘set’?
How do you think they named the characters in the game? ;)
I'm just gonna say, interesting view into what else Bosefius was looking at when he posted...And a good reminder to the rest of us to DOUBLE CHECK those copied URL's...lest you get an accidental Ban...*wink-wink - if ya know what I mean - wink-wink, nudge-nudge, say no more, say no more!* ^-^
It's a quirk of imgbb.com - if you upload pictures, it sometimes likes to sneak in a garbage link like that. Not tied to Bosefius' recent surfing history or anything else. And, my fault for not warning him ahead of time.

That said, if the next plot-forward book is unlikely to come out for gencon, would it be possible to get some indication when it might be more likely, to better calibrate our hopes and expectations?i absolutely do not have an answer for you. I understand how badly you want one, and please know I would give you one if I could. The only think I can think of saying, hopefully without overstepping and getting me in any trouble, is that there is no new piece of the story to tell until we have a _good_ story to tell. We’re working on it, and have been working on it. But that is also measured against other things we need to focus on.
Wait for it…wait for it…
It’s only half way though the year. We’ve got some cool, big stuff to start kicking out.
House Arano is from the Harebrained Schemes "BattleTech" PC game - far too much content to summarize here. The game is set in the mid-3020s, and this sourcebook is set in the couple of years just after the game, pre-4SW.
Here's the plot summary of the game - obviously, don't read it if you ever plan on playing through the game: http://www.sarna.net/wiki/BattleTech_(Video_Game)#Plot_Synopsis (http://www.sarna.net/wiki/BattleTech_(Video_Game)#Plot_Synopsis)
Thank you for this.
Well...
House Arano: The Aurigan Coalition Update - May 30
The files for House Arano: The Aurigan Coalition were turned over for POD (print on demand) on Friday May 24th and processing began. After some technical revisions, the file was marked approved for proofing on Wednesday May 29th, and production began on a physical proof. Once the proof is created, it will be shipped overnight for inspection and approval (or revision). The turnaround time could be between 3-5 days, with an additional day for review (and creation of revisions if needed).
With this final timeframe, it does not appear that we will meet our May 31st release date, but will absolutely have the POD and PDF book available for purchase by June 7th.
Thank you again for your patience.

Any word on status of new Game boxes?
Any word on status of new Game boxes?I ordered an GoAC in march (from an importer) and it just came in this week.
Before you start what I'm sure will be a spicy rumor, what are you actually asking about?
While I would love to be asking about a remote controlled from my smartphone TW scale Marauder mini that has blue LEDs for the PPCs in its arms and makes pew pew sounds . . . yeah, I was asking about the reprinting of the Game of Armored Combat box.
Up in store yet?
Hoping to have something on that next week. In process, but I'll have a better answer soon.
Nope.
And remember, that'll be the DTRPG store, not CGL's.
So not today...but maybe Sat???
So after House Arano what is next for plot books? Any movement on TRO golden century or something elseHouse Arano isn't a plot book, but the next expected one is ilClan.
Hoping to have something on that next week. In process, but I'll have a better answer soon.
Release Dates are jinxed, and in the fashion of Douglas Adams's Bistromatic Drive only serve to establish on which day the product won't come out. Everybody knows that.
With that out of the way, my current understanding is that the HB:Arano will be available exclusively as a PoD product (no PDF), and exclusively via DrivethruRPG, right?
If so, and having never used this vendor before myself, do they even offer PoD shipment to Germany?

House Arano: The Aurigan Coalition is authored by Harebrained Schemes’ Andrew McIntosh and Kiva Maginn, writer and developer of the BattleTech PC game.
To survive on the fringes of the Inner Sphere, those of noble birth must once again call on champions of mercenary mind.

House Arano update: we have eagerly been waiting clearance from our PoD printer that the final files have been processed and are ready to go, which would allow us to make the book available for purchase. Like many of you, we have eagerly “mashing the F5 button” all day, but as of this writing it is still not available.
I do not believe there will be any change to the status over the weekend, but as soon as we have the green light from the printer and DriveThruRPG, we will announce the release of the book.
Thank you for your continued patience.

This is honestly getting a tad tiresome. Why not just add a week to the original estimate to begin with?
Because that's how you challenge the universe to slow you down by eight days.

Nope, no more dates. We’ve never dealt with this process before, and it’s a learning experience. We’re being open about that. We’re on this ride together now, and it’ll be released once it’s been cleared.

I'm close to being terminally confused. So is the book going to be not released as a PDF?
You know this kind of response is exactly why we've rarely had hard dates for anything in a long, long time?Curious, I thought the delays had something to do with the lack of hard dates. I must be getting old. This is, what, the second or third delay on this book alone?

We as a community have been utterly spoiled by the openess and transparency of CGL. In the long run weve had more good surprises than bad, and the only reason we get so worked up is becuse they share so much to get excited about.
Keep up the good work Catalyst, my wallet is ready when you are
Cheers,

the delays are a bummer, but it certainly beats the "we want to release it but we can't because reasons" that happened with Second Succession WarWhat I find a bit perplexing is the fact that they never seem to see these delays coming, you'd think they be aware of these potential problems by now.

I'd much prefer to keep the updates/previews and "Should be next month" tidbits rolling in than get nothing at all...I'm with you. Updates and previews for me, even if the update is, "shit hit the fan... it's gonna be a bit."
Right, its better than no word at all. We can at least feel included as well as ne able to plot our gaming budgets.

I appreciate the openness.
The only shame is now there is zero chance of this making Origins. We’ll see.
It was never going to be a physical product at Origins or GenCon IIRC- PDF & PoD only. Yup, see Lorcan's post at the top of page 31 where he quotes the original release. Now, might they have one PoD's on hand to show off? Sure I guess, but not stacks for sale afaik.
It will be BOTH.
YES there are reasons the pdf isn’t out first.

Is the mess with the Shadowrun Sprawl Ops Kickstarter impacting on BattleTech releases or are the resources for SR & BT totally separate? The Kickstarter updates are starting to make it sound like CGL is having to divert a lot of effort into sorting things out.
I know I will be getting the PDF of the House Arano book. I dont think I will make it to any of the big conventions this year...so DTF is hard to get. The other thing that is hard is the fact that only one FLGS in a hour drive carries Battletech books....or any product of Battletech.
Also going back some weeks or months, i skipped over RS Succession Wars. What new variants did it have? Might pick it up while getting House Arano.Sarris made a good comparison spreadsheet here: https://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=64807.0
Unrelated to the House Arano book.
The decision not to release the PDF before/separate from the POD book is a marketing choice, to try to ensure a strong launch for this new product type. Potentially cutting into the sales of the first-ever POD book for the sake of getting a PDF to you a couple of days sooner, is not the way to get more POD.
Definitively interested in ordering a POD version, might ignore that completely if PDF were available first.
Concerned about total cost though, mostly due to shipping costs, which seem to be 9 euros. Not necessarily bad in itself, unless it is significant fraction of a book... Don't have anything else i'm interested in ordering in print right now. But no matter, i'll get the book either way.
Finally got my copy of Forever Faithful. No issues; just been trying to be more fiscally responsible and have not bought books in 6 months.;D My wife and I have that agreement in reverse, in that books default to zero cost for the purpose of "fiscal responsibility". That includes PoD BattleTech books.
And there's a free Chaos Campaign:Succession Wars PDF while we're waiting for the kickstarter. In between all the speculation :).
Is this currently up and available, or an upcoming in the future?

I'm pretty sure that's the plan, that they'll be available on the store "at some point in the near future." Wish I had more clarity, but my sense is that they're not con exclusives.
High on my list of dates to confirm, along with dates for the reprints of both boxed sets, but should be soon, next month or so. I need to double-check with the fulfillment center before saying more.
CC:SW download on the site tonight, if at all possible. Apologies for the delay but, uh, it's been quite the 24 hours.

We just had a productive meeting with the DriveThruRPG people, House Arano should be available this weekend finally. The copies we had At the show sold out in under 24 hours.

Soooo... when you gonna our the minis on the online store? :)
You’ll have to cross your fingers that they don’t sell out at the con and cgl wants to unload them after the season endsProbably more likely that scrappers will buy them out and sell them on e-bay
It’s nice when some crumbs from the con merch feast fall on the ground for us plebes like the faction dice from a few years ago
If I have a chance to beat the scalpers to the Webstore, that’s one more chance than I have otherwise. No, I'm saying scalpers will vacuum up the supply at the Cons

Thanks, everyone, for your patience.
I really like the succession wars chaos campaign package.
That one was a beast, and I will endlessly sing Paul's praises* for managing to retrofit a version of the Chaos Campaign that works with only the new boxed sets.

What is in the current pipeline coming in anyways since House Arano came out?
We have some Touring the Stars, and Turning Points as far i'm aware of electronic, and physically the Alpha Strike Commander's book.

Alpha Strike has the Commander's Edition and two Unit Card decks (Succession Wars and Clan Invasion).
Technical Readout: Clan Invasion and the new TechManual were at Origins as well.
Let's see if the Alpha Strike cards get a general release. All the previous sets have been con exclusives.

Do the Alpha Strike cards (or the PoD Leviathan cards) fit in standard card sleeves? If they do, you could sleeve the cards and then use dry erase markers on the sleeves.
Any news about Ilclan?no news. Was unlikely it would be at GC. Super unlikely now.
Been busy. Nothing on the upcoming products page.
Excited about the Clan Box kickstarter.
I'm surprised you found the Falcon Guards card. It must have been buried at the bottom of the box.
Any news about Ilclan? There been nothing about Ilclan. I get the feeling it's not ready yet. We'll find out in month or two.

Huh, TRO Clan Invasion was at Origins . . . can we get a Table of Contents release?
I got an applied science as a Physical Therapist Assistant by the way.
Magna ****** Laude and everything.
Now on to the board exam.
Hope everybody is doing well.
You don't have a Shadowrun counterpart running that end of the business?? :o

I need to do a general catch-up post, similar to the omnibus one back in March. What's coming, where stuff is, spoilers, and so on. I've been getting behind, due to the SR6 weekly posts, the KS, and a small mountain of BT editing work.
(And a hectic day job and two small kids and yeah yeah yeah buddy, where's the ToC, whiner?)
Not as busy as Cubby, it seems...
Huh, TRO Clan Invasion was at Origins . . . can we get a Table of Contents release?
This isn't a pretty version, obviously, but it should work until Cubby has less on his plate.

So... art for the Warhammer IIC, Marauder IIC, and Marauder II... new or repeat? If repeat, which versions?
Well maybe we get a revised or updated version in a couple of years. Lets hope for the best. ;)
Hrm. A little sad to see that it doesn't round out all of the missing designs from the Unseen-ness that weren't in TRO:Succession Wars. I see several that are still missing of the IS designs at least.
Well maybe we get a revised or updated version in a couple of years. Lets hope for the best. ;)
For 3055 inclusion Linebacker would have been more apt than Pouncer or Phantom which were later and less widespread . . . no Night Gyr but it had the other 3 from that set.
Since I already have it in my hand, this feels like it's just a little bit late. And honestly, the relative scarcity of some included 'Mechs doesn't really matter a whole lot, or the Grasshopper wouldn't have made Succession Wars.
This isn't a pretty version, obviously, but it should work until Cubby has less on his plate.
Huh, I wonder what I wrote.
No no . . . I was actually surprised, you like to tease stuff before it surprise drops like that . . .
All of the credits from the previous TROs that had a unit that went into the boom are printed on the credits page. Did you write anything for 3050 Upgrade?
Yeah I noticed that too. I choose to blame autocorrect :))
Pouncer was tested in a single cluster during Revival and IIRC the fluff was still getting mixed reviews. Phantom was developed late Revival IIRC and I do not recall it being in the phone book. The Linebacker came about before and was supposed to be spread through the touman which would explain how it might have appeared with others. Like I said, the JFSB entries were more wide spread as part of the Falcon-Jag cooperation so their inclusion and the WCSB mechs exclusion makes sense- plus by the other standard I promote, the Turkina had screen time in a older video game.
I do. Imagine my surprise/frustration when I started seeing customer pics of it at Origins.
Those ****** customers. What were they thinking, sharing all their excitement about the product? ;)
Hey when are the neoprene mat will be back in stock?
They've been re-ordered.
Enough to go through distribution or again only for CGL store?
They've been re-ordered.
Got my Paper maps over 2 months ago now from my local Game Store.
Possibly. I'm not trying to be cryptic, but I haven't gotten to that yet. Hoping to start herding the cats again this weekend.
Cubby, when you do a big update announcement, do you think there is a chance for info on ilClan? There’s no new information at this time.
I hear cattle prods work well . . .
Hoping to start herding the cats again this weekend.
Do we have no new information at this time on any other products?
But there's just one of me, and I have to prioritize.
Still waiting for a dry bone to chew about Homeworlds. Is any info somewhat planned? Even if it's a one liner paragraph. No, I’m sorry.

TT
The announcement was it would very very probably not be GenCon, that they were focusing on rolling out Clan Invasion kickstarter . . . but Cubby mentioned he will be doing a upcoming release notice before the 4th five posts before yours, so . . . ?
We're straying.
Mods, please split this into (yet another) thread about the Homeworld Clans if desired.

TechManual Reprint Now Available in Print, PDF, and Combo Formats!
Do those of us who already bought the PDF from BattleCorps get and updated version automatically or do we have to re-buy it?
To be honest, we don't know how it's being handled. If you created an account on the new store using the same email you used on Battlecorps you should see your previous purchase. You can log in, download it, see if it's the updated version.
Has there been anything regarding a street date for alpha strike commanders edition? My group has started transitioning bigger games to AS, so it’s suddenly very relevant to me...What about Interstellar Operations? It has the rule larger AS games while your waiting for the Commander Edition to be released.
No link?? I can't imagine TPTB would ban a link to his stuff...

The Wasp is also in metal but not plastic. There are some floating around but I'm not sure how to get them.Visit the CGL booth at a con, or hit up someone who can. Seems to be the only way. xp
a third lance of uniques would require either dipping into the osts OR reruns from the boxes OR bringing back quads - though quads' total absence from TROs: SW and CI makes me think there won't be a goliath or scorpion any time soon. obvioiusly everything is subject to change and nothing is guaranteed before the 17th, but here's hoping we'll have a shot at helping make it happen
Plenty of Scorpions in later TROs, bizarrely enough. I mean, if the thing was supposed to be such a failure, but then maybe the changes "under the hood" were even more extensive than what was done to the shape.
I did read on one of the Facebook groups that the Alpha Strike Commander's Edition book has a tentative street date of 10th July...and when I bugged Miniature Market over the phone for an estimate of when my pre-ordered copy would likely be shipped, they said "possibly next week"...these two sources seem to concur...

it's not a guarantee, but amazon has always been a good source for release date in the past
Amazon is NEVER a good source for Battletech release dates.
There are two kinds of release dates: Ones that chime directly from CGL, and bald-faced lies.

--The reprint of TechManual boasting the 35th anniversary vintage cover is now available in print, PDF, and combo formats on the Catalyst Game Labs store (https://store.catalystgamelabs.com/products/battletech-techmanual-book-pdf).
In regards to the TechManual (or anything really), that is purchased from the CGL webstore with an international destination, is there a possibility that you guys might be able to investigate cheaper postage options. The cheapest postage option to purchase the TechManual is considerably more than the book itself.
Having had to recently mail a few things internationally, the shipping rates they are charging are not by any stretch out of line with what it actually costs these days.
One more anecdotal example, Costco (a US warehouse store) offers free shipping on most of the large items on its website. A mattress I was looking to buy was $200 online. In my local store it was $150. I've seen similar pricing on other large items, they basically build the shipping in to the base price.
I would bet that with Miniature Market they are eating some of the International Shipping cost.
They may be able to negotiate with someone like FedEx to get a reduced rate due to volume(?), but I'm still willing to bet dollars to donuts that Miniature Market is eating some of that cost (like places that give you "free shipping on purchases over $XX amount" do).
In the immortal words of Robert Heinlein, "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch."

The costs are wildly out of step with other US sellers, large or small. Living on an island, I have a pretty good idea what shipping costs should look like, and CGL is expensive. It's frustrating when people bring up a legitimate problem that gets in the way of them spending money buying supporting the brand, and the response from those who don't have the problem is to dismiss it. I think if there are better options, they should be explored.

That is a problem easily solved by tactics.
No they don't. They either shoot at other units, or scream and duck because the other infantry player was smart enough to support them, which means someone else is currently shooting at them.
You assume incorrectly. Initiative is powerful; the more units I have and the less you have, the more likely I can keep my important units for the last move.
opponents would only be shooting at 'locked-down' infantry if no other viable target ;)
Just after that I said in that thread there had been no errata. My personal opinion is not official rules changes.
This isn't a pretty version, obviously, but it should work until Cubby has less on his plate.
That's not an index, it's the table of contents (in the picture, assuming you mean the same thing). It's organized in the same order that the units appear in the book, which is by tonnage then alphabetically.
I have never in my life seen a table of contents that didn't match the order of what was actually in the book. And I'd be incredibly confused if I did.
I have never in my life seen a table of contents that didn't match the order of what was actually in the book. And I'd be incredibly confused if I did.
It's not like the TRO:SW is a rulebooks, it's a listing of mechs. I bet you salvage rights that you wouldn't be confused in the slightest.
It's a listing of Mechs in the order they appear in the book. I'd be confused as hell if the TOC goes Akuma, Albatross, Annihilator, Atlas (etc) and the first Mechs in the book go Dart, Fireball, Locust, Commando. That'd be disorienting as hell.
Do... do people not go into a TRO thinking "I know what I'm looking for is a Light/Medium/Heavy/Assault, I'll start there?" if they don't know what it is?As a grognard, I have to laugh at that assertion. The very definition of "new player" is that they don't know what they're looking for. An alphabetical index would indeed be helpful to them.
I genuinely do not know what having an index would do to help in this case. Indices are great and helpful, but based on page-count including one would have meant a couple other designs get left out of it entirely.

How often do you go looking for something in a TRO armed with a name and literally nothing else?

(Snip) A clear explanation of new player confusion
To be fair, the original TRO 3025 had both a ToC and an index. Players thus had both means to find units: in the order presented (ToC) and alphabetically (index).
To be fair, the original TRO 3025 had both a ToC and an index. Players thus had both means to find units: in the order presented (ToC) and alphabetically (index).
The above is what I would perfer. I've never played TT and
As an established player: often. I imagine new players would need it even more often.
I agree this shouldn't exist in the TOC, but rather as a stand alone index. The value seems obvious to anyone who hasn't memorized the tonnage of a unit.
I can also add another example that just happened while looking at the KS stretchgoal listing the Longbow.
*scene reproduction*: "Oooohhh, longbow!" *open TRO:SW and look at the TCO for the longbow* I looked, and looked, and looked. It's not there, but the amount of time lost making sure I didn't browse over it, is, once again, frustrating. With an index, it would have taken 5 seconds to confirm it's not in that TRO at all.
Go to masterunitlist.info. Type in Longbow. See that Longbow is 85 tons. Look at the 85 ton mechs in TRO. Conclude it isn't there.
I agree that an Index would have been the right move, but I guess that ship has sailed. At this point, the above directions might be the fastest way to deduce the presence or lack thereof of any one certain mech from a TRO.
Hmm, that Uziel art gets different background . . . which is funny, b/c its either a RAC or LAC from a custom personal variant. But IIRC the art existed way before the custom variant.

Had to register to express my pleasure that the Kell Hounds Ascendant is getting POD and that you're working on Battlecorps Anthology 6. I've got my fingers crossed that you're going to make A Bonfire of Worlds and the Founding of the Clans trilogy also available on POD.

I got it from a FLGS here, so it must be listed in some distributor.

Not ATOW? or is legends replacing it entirely?
Lifepath and point-based build systems meh. Won't be sad to see it go.
My FLGS has started ordering direct from IWM. I think we are three orders in, and we have talked to them about the KS . . . apparently the owners are discussing getting involved, but they are not yet.

Okay, so the latest Anthology has a taste of Redemption Rift . . . was it a BC serial?
How many of these stories are left to published. I wasn't a subscriber, but i find it surprising there so any many stories still in the vault of the BattleCorp that have yet to be published in book form. There are 421 stories listed on Sarna.
I haven't seen any change of plans regarding the rest of the books. I believe they intend to continue with the reprint styles past SO.

What is MechWarrior Destiny? They used a updated version of the old MechWarrior 1 PC game cover.
Not soon.
Lol, great answer . . . to be clear, no sarcasm, it just tickled my funny bone.
TacOps has been split into two volumes now, interesting.
Has anyone gotten a good look at the covers? I was internally debating whether it was two volumes or a standard and special edition cover
Loving the cover on Tac Ops Advanced Units & Equipment. That was a favorite of mine from way back. What was the image on the other Tac Ops book used on before? I know I've seen it but I can't remember where.http://www.sarna.net/wiki/CityTech,_Second_Edition
Wondering if tac1, tac2 and strat ate interstellar ops.

It might be more than a simple reprint eg bringing in stuff like tripods and LAMs along with advanced gear introduced after 2008 like TSEMP. I don’t think they’d split it in half unless they had a reason. No, it’s just a reprint, split in two.
As long as the single volume version continues to get errata updates in pdf, I'm good...We won’t be updating two versions of the same book(s).
No, it’s just a reprint, split in two.
A 400 page supplemental game book is not viable, on many levels.
We won’t be updating two versions of the same book(s).So...the single volume people are out of luck? We have to use the twin volumes if we need errants done? :(
We won’t be updating two versions of the same book(s).
They don't update The BattleTech Compendium, because later books superseded it. These two new books supersede the single older book. Thus, updates/errata will be provided for the two new books, but they will no longer provide updates/errata for the old obsolete book.
Bad example, compendium was out before the internet. BMRr would be closer, but these are still called tacops. I could see it going either way.

The 3250 intro provides some... interesting clues about the state of things in the futureFrom TRO: Succession Wars?
Eh, it’s Gencon, I assume that Cubby is crazy busy with other things.
Everyone at GenCon exists in a perpetual haze of exhaustion.
Does everyone have enough coffee to make them stay awake? Coffee intake is important! ;D
Did I miss an announcement yesterday about TRO Clan Invasion becoming available online?
Because its up on drivethrurpg today.
Does this TRO has anything relevant for an old player? New artwork? New variants or new fluff?Previously it was stated no new art.
I really try to find a reason to purchase this.
Marauder IIC & Warhammer IIC are interesting since they are showing PP art but we are getting new art in CI.It's not just PP art. The entries are basically the PP entries. Only PP variants are described with nothing relating to the Unseen/nuSeen designs.

Interesting . . . I do not have it so I could not have said.
Yeah, the original Warhammer IIC is a nicely functional mech, but the 4 is really a superior machine and the Sharks sold it far & wide.
Better*, CGL have BattleTech and Shadowrun-themed energy drinks!
*or possibly worse
The TRO Clan Invasion the only new book for Gencon or is there others?
What we need to know (eventually) is if we purchased the TacOps single volume PDF, will we get the new dual volume version as a standard update or will we have to buy both volumes again for continued support
Regarding the recent release of TRO: Clan Invasion, I just noticed something odd.
It is missing the Shadow Hawk and Griffin. Has everything else you would expect. Both of those are in the Beginner's box/GoAC box. Yet between the two new TRO's, we don't have an entry for them. Odd, eh?
Cheers,
Mad
They're in TRO SW.So if their in TRO: SW, can they be used in Clan Invasion? This sort reply is why i think it's potentially going confuse new players. xp
So if their in TRO: SW, can they be used in Clan Invasion? This sort reply is why i think it's potentially going confuse new players. xpDoing it by years won't improve this, the only way to fix that is a massive cull of the number of 'Mechs and put everything into a single lightweight and cheap volume.
Its going scatter stuff something terrible.

the enforcer iii was only in 3060. can i use it in 3067? 3075? 3085? what in tro 3060 (in-universe perspective: 3060) answers those questions any better than TRO: Clan Invasion? The way the books were written, they would appear to be available. However, that's me assuming. Since it's been part of the game. new player won't know that, unless they spell it out in a TRO or source book. They would have to the MUL.

Era thing limits number units per era (Mechs, Fighters, Tanks, etc) unless their planning to have companion book or something TRO by Era book.

Your saying that because the new TRO's have eras in them I'll assume that the 'Mechs in them are only available in the era in the name, but if the TRO's are by year I won't assume that the 'Mechs contained within are only available in that year? By you logic I can assume that every design published in TRO:3050 was out of production, if not extinct by 3055 because that's when the next year TRO comes out, and that no 'Mechs where produced between 3058 and 3060
What I would love to see, as a longtime player that has original unredacted TROs from way back, and has no need to rebuy this TRO, is a way to cheaply buy or just read this 3250 intro because I am coupling starving for plot forward information. But I can think of few things less appealing than paying again for product I already own.
Eesh this upcoming releases thread we find out about unofficially about the new product. xp
The TRO Clan Invasion the only new book for Gencon or is there others?
Personally, and stated before several times, I was looking forward to seeing the prototypes of the KS minis. And was not disappointed (man, that Phoenix Hawk looks sharp!) when the photos started surfacing.
You going to be doing any summary of what was released so far to KS backers? I realize most of the fiction so far is recycled BattleCorp fiction, but as I understand it some is not.
Slightly off-topic, but is the red/black the Red Duke's paint scheme? I was planning on putting some of my box set and KS 'Mechs toward building his unit, but couldn't tell from the book if it was a "bisected at the waist" type of split.
Also, that dazzle camo scheme is fire. I like it.

Why yes, I am obsessively scanning that book so I can build the Red Hunters using Classics from the KS.
W.
Interestingly, only the Red Duke, and his XO Harimander Singh, get the red & black schemes. As of Decision at Thunder Rift, other 'Mechs in the Red Hunters were flat grey and black, except for one Wasp in orange-black tiger stripes. The MAD that Grayson Carlisle captured belonged to Vallendel, and was in grey and black.

...so I, uh, should probably purchase that book now...
what i'd like is if they took something like TRO: Succession Wars, shuffle the units a bit (eg Ymir out, Mad II in) and then rewrite the entire thing from the perspective of 3250
Interestingly, Mike Stackpole always described the Kell Hounds as red with black legs.
Very similar.
In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only
red paint
So many units use Red or Red on Black, it's not even funny. It is an easy type of camo to paint.
So many units use Red or Red on Black, it's not even funny. It's also a good camo pattern for the Desert Mountain/Desert Sinkhole maps from Map Pack 3. I love those maps.
Then you throw on Maroon & Black, Maroon & Gray . . . Maroon & Charcoal . . . yeah, its going to make visual identification of any mystery opponents who use those sorts of colors difficult.
Scout- (using salute) "Lance, patrolling, Grid XXXYYY . . . uh . . . well, the warbook is hard to determine . . . could be Kell Hounds, Wolf Dragoon's Wolf Spiders, some Kurita noble, Mayhem's Misfits, Ch-" (burst of static, signal goes dead).
Yeah, using those colors should make it easier to kill scouts simply b/c they are flipping through screens trying to match up with who they found.
from the perspective of 3060, you can infer that you can use them in 3085? No, you cannot.
so just like any other organization (ie TRO by years confers no actual benefit besides appeasing old players)
You hold in your hands the requested compilation of BattleMechs in operation across the Inner Sphere, beginning in the Age of War, continuing through the time of the First Star League and the Succession Wars, and up to the eve of Operation REVIVAL.It can't with units going extinct.
If you’re concerned about extinction dates you’re deep enough in to know about the MUL.This guy.
Considering how many people on this forum feild Primitives on a regular basis, don't think many care about extinction dates.
If it actually says Extinct, then there are no known (in universe) examples of that unit in a military force and it is believed by everyone to no longer be in service anywhere.
The MUL is about combat deployment, and informing players what is in use. It could be in a museum, or hidden in a star league cache, or maybe somebody has one and the rest of the Inner Sphere doesn't know about. None of those count.
The MUL isn't interested in being a straight-jacket. We're a tool to assist, not to beat people with. If a player wants an extinct mech, it's their (local) game. If a writer wants one in a story, it's an exception. We move on. We informed and people did what they wanted and good for them.
Probably because I look at EXTINCT as meaning
NO LONGER IN PRODUCTION
not
THEY ALL SUDDENLY DISAPPEARED
Real World Example
The MODEL T Ford is no longer in production. Doesn't mean I can't find them out in the world, or machine replacement part for them
How many people taking that much time to keep a Model T in working order are willing to take them into combat?
No one should put any stock in the production numbers that have been printed, in any book, ever.source because i can't quote a locked thread (https://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=63696.msg1491209#msg1491209)
The writers certainly don't.
Production goes at the speed of plot.
Why on Earth would you deliberately decide to interpret something as both 1) not what it actually means, which has been defined before and 2) Makes the entire MUL framework around it make less sense? ???
I don't get it.

December 31, 3085, Portland, Fronq Reaches
Corporal Dan "NewbKiller" Colter piloted his Thorn THE-S (http://www.masterunitlist.info/Unit/Details/3195/thorn-the-s) into the repair bay. He had just returned from patrol having drawn the short straw for the New Year's Eve schedule. Well, he thought to himself as he powered down the little mech, Looks like I got back in time that I won't miss the whole party, the countdown clock, sure, but still some time to socialize...maybe even give Mary a New Year's Eve Kiss!
He chuckled to himself as he started across the repair bay thinking of the attractive young Astrotech, his reverie interupted as his wrist chronometer beeped, signalling midnight, the start of the new year 3086. He looked at the watch as realization spread across his face.
DAMN, my Gloves! he thought, I left them in the cockpit! He loved them gloves. They were a gift from his mother two years past when he left home to join the forces on Portland.
Turning about to return to his Thorn, he stood in shock, his neurohelmet clattering to the ground as it slipped from his numb fingers.
HIS THORN WAS GONE! Wha-....what hapend to his 'MECH!?!?! It should be right THERE!!! He just parked it minutes ago!
His face blanched as all color drained in shock. he had no idea how he was going to explained to the Quartermaster let alone the C.O. how his mech suddenly disappeared.
Is there any updates on when the releases from Gencon will be released??
I know we have this discussion all the time ;)
I just really, really, really wish the MUL/BT in general had a discriptor to come Between IN PRODUCTION and EXTINCT as I've said many times before, I just cannot picture DEC 31 3079 the forces of the IS have 100's if not 1000's of 'Mech XYZ-123 in their stables and then on JAN 1 3080 they all suddenly disappeared.
I'm pretty sure if I started looking I could find lots of real world miltitary examples of smaller nations still having Antiquated units.
No matter how many people tell me: Whelp them's the rules!, I will always refer to the poorly written Narative above
...
Anyways, knowing Kill Zone is Volume Seven of the BattleCorps Anthology, where can I get a copy of Volume Six?
I've asked this before, but I think it was another thread. I'd be happy to buy both Six and Seven, provided I can get Six at least digitally. :fine_print:
