"Freya" is a strange FRR variant of the Thunderbolt that showed up at the start of the Ronin Wars. It was a gift from the Lyrans, much like the VND-1AA was a gift from the Capellians. It has the strength of the original design but it sacrifices firepower for a more heat efficient weapon load and jump jet mobility. The large laser was replaced with an Autocannon 5. The rest of the loadout is similar to other Thunderbolt variants. The design ended up replacing a lot of Shadow Hawks because of how similar it is.

Just as a side note, I was not going for efficiency here. I wanted to make something different.

Taking the ton out of armor makes it less of a Thunderbolt to me, especially coming from the Lyrans. You could rob the ammo bins a bit more with Fractional Accounting to restore it...
-
I like it. But like Daryk says - she’s a little under armoured. I wouldn’t want to be locked in a long engagement with this TBolt.
That said, the AC5, LRM, SRM combo doesn’t make it a stand in, us gunned ShadHawk.
I like the idea of it as a cheap-ish, rushed to the front jack of all trades the FRR desperately needed in its first days.
-
It just occurred to me dropping to an AC/2 would give you the armor back, and let you add the second MG...

The armor profile is identical to the stock Thunderbolt except for the legs... as long as you stick with partial cover you won't notice much of a difference. :))

That's one thing I was thinking about. Other thing, I wanted to make a variant with an Autocannon since a PPC variant exists. This guy is far from perfect, but it is a stand out from the others. It can consistently fire its main gun at all ranges and supplement that with no heat worries.

The AC/2 isn't powerful enough. It is a fun idea, though.

I kinda like the AC/2 idea. If you're packing the AC/5 you're not doing it for power anyways, and the tonnage could get armor or the LRM-15 back, which is the real long-range workhorse. Or 3 LRM-5s and an extra ton of LRM ammo, but at that point things start to get cheesy...

Maybe... It would definitely be interesting, though.

I'm not worrying about armor as it still has more armor than most of its contemporary IntroTech heavies. Archer and Orion have more armor, just about everyone else has less. Some significantly so (JagerMech, Quickdraw, Rifleman and the Ost twins).
-
I'd drop the single MG and ammo for a flamer. At very close range you won't be firing the LRM or AC5 so the minor overheat will be ok, and it enhances the AI capabilities.

Yeah that's basically how I feel. Freya is still 90% covered.

... I might do that. The sicko in me kind of wants to figure out how to throw on a 2nd machine gun...
You know, I'm going to do that. I think Vikings were known for their own unique way of creating fires. Kind of goes with the theme. Good call!

Ok, so after a lot of thought, I think this is the route I want to take...

I think this works out nicely. This version is basically a beefier Shadow Hawk, taking inspiration from two of the Thud variants I like the most (stock and jump). Obviously, the Autocannon 5 was put on, but I think "Freya" is a unique variant. It can fill the planetary assault role of the original thanks to its armor but it has a weapon load that can fill a variety of rolls. I also like how light it is on the heat scale so it can consistently fire, something that the original Thud can't really do. It's different.
-
Cutting half a ton of SRM ammo (that you'll never use anyway) could get the armor back up to 13 easily.

I don't want to do fractional accounting... it's a good idea, though.

Ah, ok... If you said that before, sorry I missed it.
