I was rather impressed with the Fusion when I got them at Hertz.  I think I got 36MPG out of one of them.   O0

I drive them a lot for work, so I was happy to be able to get one.  The fact I stole it from the dealership was just a bonus.

Well it appears "the boy" has blown the head gasket in our 1991 Mazda B2200.  He has like  an anti-Midas touch.

What should I do?

1.  Fix it myself?
2.  Donate it
3.  Sell it to the wreckers?

A new head and gasket set is $579

Mopar, what kind of shape is the the wee beastie in? If it is thrashed you may just want to sell/donate it, if is in good condition and you are willing fix (but have the boy work off some or all of the cost of the parts builds character). Just my thoughts on the subject.

It's good shape.  No rust or body damage.  The AC blows cold.  Paint is faded white.  Seats are nice.

It does have an electrical draw that I suspect is coming from the positive battery cable.

It only has 130k miles on it.

If I had skills, I think $600 and some time for a decent truck would be worth it.

I have the time, I'd love the skills... it's that pesky money crap that gets in the way...

It's our truck not his.  He was "borrowing it" because his STi is in the shop with a blown motor.

Let's recap some of "the boys" car exploits ...

Mazda RX-7 sideswipes truck
Mazda RX-7 rear ends car
Mazda RX-7 backs into car
Mazda RX-7 oil pan ripped off curb jumping
Audi Coupe sideswiped by truck - car effectively totaled
Neon SRT-4 - crashed - twice
Neon SRT-4 - stolen - recovered - totaled
S2000 - crashed - twice
S2000 - spun rod bearing
S2000 - car broken into - supposed sabotage of engine - car totaled
STi - engine blown
STi - modified to ethanol - engine blown
Borrowed Mazda Pick Up - killed dog
Borrowed Mazda Pick Up - blown head gasket

That's the short list  >:(

Sad times.  I have gotten rid of the GTO.  Changed my work schedule and have to commute now, and that just wasn't a commuter vehicle.

Got a 2010 Ford Fusion with 13K miles for it straight up.  Cost me $15 for a documentation fee.
In Ohio now, you don't get your title when you pay off the loan on your car.  I had to go to the title bureau and shell out $16 for a paper title.

Still working on the Royale at the moment.  I'm up to hoses.  There are two coolant lines running to the radiator in the nose of the car.  Is there any reason i can't run a big rubber line to the nose?  The current set up uses aluminum lines, but there is almost as much rubber connecting the entire mess together as there is aluminum piping.  Frankly, it runs through the center of the tub, and considering how much rubber i can see, it might be easier to go full rubber than the mess it currently is.

the only reason i can come up with (and its a stretch) is hose collapse at high temps or puncture threat.

Man, he sounds like my step cousin, Mopar. Unfortunately, he met a bad end. :( I hope the boy learns that these machines are not disposable toys and he should be a bit more respectful and learn how to use them properly.

You would have thought that would have sunk in.

Hopefully some bicycle time will help.   ;D

If he's under MY roof or on MY insurance ... I'd take the DL and all driving privileges and strike him from the insurance.  Give him a MOPED until he learns to drive SAFELY.
If he's independant: I'd stop fixing his broken equipment and forbid him from touching my vehicles.
6 different vehicles he has effectively destroyed?  wow.

He's not under our roof and our insurance booted him long ago.  His mother on the other hand is a little soft on him.  He's her only child.

No you don't.

Good news is that I've gotten the motor torn down.  I found a cheaper supplier for the head at $380 without the gasket set, but that's only $69.  Hopefully it's back on the road by next week.

I've taken a 63 Plymouth Sport Fury as a way to support myself.

Mopar, he needs some serious time running the shoe leather express or on pedal powertm

My Godson just had his first crash and it totalled his Malibu.  We're joking that his next ride will be a bumper car...  (He was in a left hand turn [banked] of a road that was oiled and chipped *after* a rain storm and got his right side tires off the surface... at 35 mph.)

Actually he's been riding his bike, but he did do some other things.

Appears he managed to get the STi put back together stock and then he offloaded it to Carmaxx.  WHATEVER YOU DO - DO NOT BUY A USED  STi FROM CARMAXX.

He's traded the STi parts he had to his roommate for a Toyota Paseo.

Mopar, new Dart? or should I look for a old dart with a slant 6?

The new Dart is an Alfa Romeo and is rather impressive at it's price point.  There are three engine options - I think I would check out the 1.4L turbo that is rated at 40MPG freeway.  I was very impressed with the interior for such an inexpensive car and everything I've read so far has been positive.

It's an Alfa?  The odds of ever getting a real Alfa are slim, so this presents itself as a positive idea to me.

My car still books for about 13K...  }:)

You see early 60s Chevys but the Olds, Pontiacs and Buicks seem far and few between
