For those wanting to setup their own dedicated server, or just not mess with it, there are now officially supported servers running for public use. MegaMek.games lists the six servers running, who is supporting them, and provides instructions for setting up your own.

How to Reset a Servers Rules.
When using public servers, and the game options aren't changing, go under Game Options and reset to default and apply.

March 5th/2021 Update
We've set up a Official Megamek Discord here.. They have voice channels set up to match the dedicated servers.

March 11th/Update
We now indicate the recommend max play size for each server. In theory you can go beyond this bet understand the server could run out of memory, leading to crash and loss of game.

Also the hells-horses.megamek.games has temporarily been changed to a stable server. Once we have a 0.49.0 release it will move back to a dev server

March 13th
Adding a ton more dedicated servers for community play. Thanks to Hutti for them.

November 27th
Adding a few more servers thanks to Jay^ and Delra. For the most up to list see HERE

December 13th
Updated server list.

December 14th

June 14th 2023

I'm soooo not technical but could donate some c-bills if someone could set it up and provide me with some cost estimates.

Was wondering what happened when I saw the memory notification. Server ran out of memory and killed the instance. I'll see about upping the two TapEnvy controls to allow for the larger battles.

Out of curiosity, how many players, units, etc and what size map were y'all using? Trying to figure out resource needs to better advise players what MegaMek can handle at each memory bracket.

Both Diamond Shark & Ghost Bear has been upgraded to a larger instance and should support larger battles, possibly up to regiment v regiment scale.

As a reminder, these public servers are managed and paid by individuals/companies that respond to issues as time permits. If a particular server is down or having issues, please contact said person via these forums or the various BattleTech discords.

The Servers from The Griffins are mitigated due to the log4j issue. Java is on OpenJDK 11.0.12+7.
Is it possible to get a DNS redirect from the-griffins.megamek.games to megamek.lynxx-it.de so the users can access the savegames easily?

We were actually receiving a large number of reports that The Griffins were unusable so we removed them.

In addition, with the Log4J issue, MM doesn't use the one effected by the bug but we discovered other issues that will be addressed in 0.49.6.

Thx for the info. Due to my research you are right, the servers are not accessable through 'the-griffins.megamek.games'. For this subdomain there is no a record or cname record or something else. It looks like that all the necessary DNS infos are missing. When you use 'megamek.lynxx-it.de' you can access all megamek servers just fine. Unfortunately the DNS for *megamek.games is not in my hand.

Mitigations for log4j are removed. Update to new version 0.49.6 will be done when available :)

It is in mine. :)

As I said, we kept receiving complaints of people not being able to get to the instances, and even tried myself to verify. That is why I removed the DNS entry. If they are accessible again, I can re-add the requisite CNAME record.

Thats weird. I am monitoring the savegames mtime to see if the servers are functioning and I can see savegames from 6. 10. and 11. Dec 2021, so I thought of no problems on them.
Then I have to check my monitoring tool, maybe I can find a better way :)

It's been a few months so it's possible the issue we were all having got fixed and people used the direct URL vs the MegaMek.games one.

Ok, the servers got a problem for a few months. As I can see in the first post of this thread, the entries for 'the-griffins.megamek.games' were removed yesterday, 13. Dec. So, could it be possible to list the servers under the original name 'megamek.lynxx-it.de' on this thread, so the gamers have a few more servers to play on?
From my point of view the problems with the servers was, when you wanted to access them by 'the-griffins.megamek.games' URL which is not under my control. Also I would prefer an information for the users, that they can access the savegames from all servers on the URL https://megamek.lynxx-it.de/ for the last year and in the archive folder for ever. Or, maybe an easier way, you can pin my first thread 'https://bg.battletech.com/forums/megamek-games/lynxx-dedicated-megamek-servers/msg1434593/' on this forum and I keep this updated for every changes.

I see no issue with it but updating the OP is up to Hammer. I can re-add the CNAME pointing back to you as well if desired.
