Did a rewatch of the Dolph/Vandamme Universal soldier, and man did they really miss out on some good stuff they could have delved into..

Ignore the sequels until you get to 2009's Universal Soldier: Regeneration. It is direct to video, and it is seriously good.

Anybody going to go see the new "Death Wish" with Bruce Willis?
I doubt I will. The first one was okay. But Willis is no Charles Bronson. (One of my favorite actors.)

Honestly, I'm really tired of the "man goes on Roaring Rampage Of Revenge for crimes committed against his wife and daughter" plot.

I like Willis, but the original was a product of its time.  And I really dislike Eli Roth's work.  Really really dislike.   So putting him in a film that was exploitative to start out with?   I am going with a hard "no."

True that.  We had that one with Travolta recently (set in columbus)..

Personally i am just getting sick to death of all the bloody reboots/remakes, period..

Would licensing issues be another problem too?  You own said property, but if you make new one you have go through alot legal work to establish ownership.  Would that be one angle they do these repeats?  I recall that number classic 1920-30s-40s and even into 50s had alot remakes among them.  Like Robin Hood for example.

I wonder if they're counting movies that aren't direct retellings but follow the basic plot or not?

It was a science fiction double feature.

I saw that Cruise won the Razzie for worst actor in The Mummy, so I watched it to clear dvr space.  About half way through, I paused for...

Alien Covenant.  That was just awful.  When the medic girl went ape shit hysterical I was done. I sat through the rest just to get it out of the way.   I have an idea...no more robots on ships.

And back to finish The Mummy.  I have never cared for Cruise, but if that was worst acting, it must have been an off year for action flicks.  I guess no Expendables movie.

A Bridge Too Far is really great movie, top notch cast and there was still a great deal of working WWII gear around for convincing battle scenes before the age of CGI.

Found an old VCD (yes) of Police Academy while throwing away old stuff.

Wow they'd never get away with a lot of this stuff nowadays. Kim Cattrall looks smashing. Why can't they bring back that 80s hair?

I watched it on the tv last year, having previously seen it as a kid, it stood up the test of time well and it was really something different seeing it with all the knowledge about the operation I have now.
Shoot first, laugh later.

Very good movie.  There are couple of scenes that are not historically correct but other than that it's a great movie.

That's why IMO a lot of older (late 70s to late 80s) comedies are a LOT more funnier than stuff these days.. Not so ...  "watered down"..

My thoughts exactly.  The first movie had a fairly good balance of action to comedy.  The second doubled down on the comedy at the expense of everything else.
