In Progress: Another Big wack Attack!
« on: 28 February 2011, 15:36:23 »
Not having posted anything for awhile, what with the top secret hush-hush wink-wink nudge-nudge goings on, I can share some in-progress pics of a commission I am working on for a client.

Enjoy!

I really love this color scheme. Would it happen to be for a fellow Star Adder? :-*
I love how your cockpit jeweling came out too. Most of my units have a lot of blue in them
and I was searching for a good viewport color.
I'm not adventurous enough to try jeweling yet though [tickedoff]  but maybe someday

Nice Scheme.

What are the tanks on the right side in the last picture?
They are stonking looking.

That, sir, is a work of art........... [rockon]

I notice that the grey parts don't look like painted metal, it has a ceramic look to it.......especially on the Blood Asp.
and i've seen that look on the Mechs over on CSO...i've only seen that look with the grey color.

Not sure how wack does it but I would venture a guess that its whatever primer/base color he used just washed with black. Grey does tend to turn out better in that regard than most other colors.  ??? wierd.

The grey is actually not the same on all the minis. I decided to prime with Flames of War (Vallejo?) German Grey spray primer, followed by a light dusting of Board to Pieces light grey primer and used a combination of drybrushing, panel painting and targeted washes to try to get a decent effect on each of the minis. As an accident the Vikings came out initially with a perfect grey fade to grey-black, which I then had to mess with to get the even grey you see here.

I seem to find myself doing a lot of blues and greys or blues and blacks lately, but I keep trying to adjust the finish because I'm never quite happy with them. Hopefully the client will be.

Although I'm worried about the force, looks a little bit on the light end. Might want to reconsider that Rifleman......

For this one, a craft black paint (Americana Lamp Black), followed by Americana Light Cinnamon, Antique Gold and Vallejo Golden Yellow, all thinned so as not to create too much of a buildup on the model. I put a sliver of Americana White along one corner or lower edge and a dot or two of white in the middle of the black area for depth.

I find the craft paints tend to require less thinning in general and for shading work are still quite useful in getting a good effect.

That's how I feel about the first Blood Asp. And whats up with the shrunken Blood Kite?
I think they left it in the dryer too long.  The original Behemoth was one of my fav all time mechs.
If you ever saw what they based it off of, its hardly recognizable.  Kudos really goes out to whoever
could go from that to what we got in the end O0

Thats one dead sexy Blood Asp.

I do have one question regarding the Vikings, how did you recommend doing up all those missile ports?  I'm having a deuce of a time getting them to stand out without bleeding into each other with a ComStar-white scheme.
