Marauders are traditionally used by commanders (aka, valuable targets) and a custom Royal one is equal to a very valuable target. The bad side of using such good mech is that it paint a big target on you.

The same is true for BattleMasters, though, and those are custom Royal ones, too.

Also, marauders are squishy compared to battlemasters.

Yeah, Hanse is probably in a battlemaster, but squishing a marauder with its 17 armor over a torso bomb isn't an unreasonable investment. If nothing else, it gets rid of a big chunk of the long range firepower.

Yes, I know that even normal royals are tougher than that, and he isn't in a normal royal.

Outstanding job, Chris, remarkable job reading BT fans in. Thank You for sharing with the BT fandom.

So Banzai Banzai attacker’s oh no what to do?
If you know the target it can easily become a trap.
With months of prep time, obstacles and mine placement.
AC 20 rigged on a pressure plate , in areas you channelized the enemy.
Even pit traps with mech equivalent of punji stakes.( collapsing buildings are my bane in game anytime I try to jump on one).
Never stop prepping your AO for battle with the enemy.
Just had an image of the roads around NAIS covered in a super lube and mechs trying to run on it.
or
Infantry in buildings with paint claymores or paint hoses that spray EM dampening paint to malf mech sensors.
Really need all the nobles with mechs that wanted to fight with Hanse at the NAIS, hidden and waiting to counter attack.
Propaganda coup, Federation nobles fighting to save technology vs. Dracs trying to make whole IS into their peasants.

Is there perhaps another company or two of Alacorns in NAIS, hidden behind shrubberies?

So, Yorinaga is cosplaying Saruman, while Hanse is cosplaying Creed?

There is apparently a 'Steiner Guard'  company of refitted  Banshees, -X-FC, I think.  I've been keeping track of his posts and he went over the available forces, but that was the most surprising one.

I get the feeling it's going to be over soon, in story terms, since Smith knows Morgan is now less than 30 minutes out.  At one point I wondered about city services getting involved, but the action seems to be moving too fast.  I wonder if we'll see any ASF getting involved, though.

Quite the opposite, he has them where he doesn't want them, in New Avalon, NAIS to be specific.

At a heavily fortified, isolated, sensor-filled area with both garrison forces and static defenses?  With a massive, mountain-shaped fortification in the near distance designed after the Star League's  I grant you he might prefer them not to be there, but, well - they have a plan, too, you know?

You could poke him over at spacebattles, but I don't think he'd appreciate it.

The mods would appreciate it less, and they're already in need of therapy. They'd ModHammer you and lock the thread.

Nah, not worried about them, they have enough fires to put out.

Irritate the writer, and...  His last response was one word; "No.". I'd say let it wait.

I just wanted to pop in and say that this is fantastic. Sure, it's a fanboy's wet dream about what the Federated Commonwealth COULD have been... but it's done with such flair, attention to detail, and lighthearted fun that I found myself stuck to my chair reading it for five fracking hours.

It's not perfect, of course. There are some noticeable recurring errors. Your use of punctuation and quotation marks are, at times, rather problematic; the period does not go after the quotation marks, for example. Also, you frequently use the word "unphased" but I'm pretty sure you mean "unfazed."

However as a fan-made work, such criticisms are, in the end, a lover's quarrel. Again, well done. Looking forward to more.

Uh... also, count me in as a member of the Katrina/Smith crowd.

The minor grammatical tweaks and professional editing catches do not detract at all from my enjoyment of going for a ride along his story.

My only complaint is the cliff hangers waiting for him to finish the next chapter. This seems to be a common one that I have with all good writers.  My voracious reading out paces their writing.

Until he posts more I along with many others will wait and wonder what is next for Mr Smith.

a) Load Calibre on your computer.
b) Load the file.
c) Select Convert, then Convert to PDF

Or

a) say "Could I have a PDF copy please?"

Epub's (to me) a superior read, and Calibre will also let you read books. If your tablet is Android, I highly recommend fbreader (Free Book, not FaceBook) which lets you read epubs & others. PDF has the issue with wanting to cram one whole page on screen; epub (and mobi, and azw) work far better for text, PDF for image-intensive books like TROs where the formatting is important.
