'Mech Grappling - need clarification
« on: 19 February 2015, 15:34:25 »
I had jumped my PXH to face a Timber Wolf, and skipped arm-mounted weapon attacks with the intent to grapple.  The Timber Wolf had also jumped this turn.  The PXH was pristine & undamaged.
When it came to the Physical Attack Phase, my PXH did not have the Grapple option available as I had expected.
(Yes, they were in adjacent hexes.)  It was able to punch 2x.

What was preventing the Grapple from occurring?

Additionally, TW PG147 doesn't state that Push Attacks must be on an even level, though my units don't seem to be able to push a target that is higher or lower; I have not tried pushing a vehicle on a L1 terrain from a L0-terrain BattleMech - Not sure if it would have any effect, but if it would be useful if it could force it out of the hex.

Grappling is a TacOps skill, so you must have the TacOps Grappling Skill option enabled to use grapple. You can find it under the advanced combat options.

Regarding push, I'm really not sure.

In order to push:

1)  Both units must be on the same level.
2)  Your feet must be facing the opponent, as well as your torso.
3)  You must not have fired weapons in either arm.
4)  You must be standing at the end of the firing phase (of course).

You can kick the target or hatchet it if it is one level below you (headkicks for 60+ tons, anyone?).
You can punch on the target's leg table if it is one level above you.

If you need to move something that is on a hex that can't be pushed (because adjacent hexes are on a different level), you can always try to charge or DFA.

Thanks ;)
I had successfully used grappling in a previous match, so it is on. All conditions I know of were met.

In situations like this, if you create a saved game it can usually be used to figure out why the button isn't being enabled.

Still can not grapple :(

All conditions were met:
Attacker and target standing on the same level terrain.
Attacker adjacent to target.
No weapons fired from either arms of the attacker.
Feet and torso facing the target.
TacOps: Grappling is on.

Current version is 41.1 (haven't yet upgraded)

Are you allowed to fire even torso weapons when grappling?  I don't think you can fire ANY weapons in the weapon phase.

I do believe Snimm is right:

TO pg 90 - "The grappling unit may not make any weapon attacks in the turn in which it attempts to grapple."
