The j edgar is a pretty great fusion vee.  So Id pair it with a pretty great fusion vee with at least the same armor, the drillson.  The hovertank with PPC/srm has less armor, so it doesnt feel like a bigger j edgar.  The drillson shares the laser + 2srm2 like the j edgar, but upgrades the laser to a large, and then adds some lrms and machine guns.

For mechs, since 4 arty guns supporting 1 company of mechs and 1 company of tanks is a lot of artillery, I would skew for dedicated support/spotters.  So stingers/wasps as a scout lance, to jump around and provide artillery spotting without closing to engage, riflemen/jagers/hatchmen/orion types for Anti-aircraft support to form a picket, and an intercept cavalry lance of dragons/quickdraws/crabs/sentinels type faster things to run out to counter enemy probe attacks before they reach the artillery.

Ask the Writers / Re: Marian Aerospace question
« Last post by Chinless on Today at 04:36:00 »
With that in mind, what is an Ala Alba Wing or Caelum Wing? The terms show up in various Field Manuals and seem to describe the aero assets belonging to an entire Legion, but we have no idea how large any of those formations actually are.

Info is a bit scant on this, but FM: Periphery p77 has some of the answers. Ala Alba (White Wing) is simply the name of the Praetorian Guard's aero contingent. They are listed as being a wing in strength. They get a brief mention in Handbook: Major Periphery States p158, too.

Caelum Wings also get mentions in Shattered Fortress p88 and 90, and TR:3150 p204. SF mentions that the II Caelum Wing is indeed a wing in strength, meaning the others presumably are as well, but the TR ref also mentions maniples.

That would suggest the Caelum is merely a name for the aero wings - its meaning in Latin appears to be "the sky, heaven'.

Its less certain that these Marians Wings follow the usual Marian naming schemes, with a Wing being the equivalent of a Cohors, and being comprised of three Maniples. Its unclear whether Maniples are broken down into further into Centuries.

Looking further back to The Periphery 2nd Ed p60, it states 2 fighters make a team, and 5 teams make an air maniple. Two air maniples then make a wing, with 5 wings making a squadron.

BattleMechs / Re: 'Warcriming the Militia' - Battlemechs of the WoB

Yes and no; the year is 3152 or so, Berith and the other veterans are dead or retired.  Equipment and tech is hard to build or impossible to pass off as domestic equipment developed by their allies, the supply line from the IS and sole remaining Deep Periphery colony under their control is measured  in years, and while some Clan equipment is available its still expensive and Introtech and Primitive tech is still very common.

The WoB equipment is still considered front-line or cutting edge, so it's limited more by logistics and things like logistics, troop numbers, and the need to remain hidden until the Invasion of the Cluster kicks off.

Vibromines detonate prematurely when a unit move, a 50 ton mech would set them off from 3 hexes away if they're dialed to a 20 ton trigger weight of I'm remembering right. Only weakness is winning initiative since your opponent can move the unit out of the minefield before something can trigger the vibromines.

That's clever. Although the problem is how to get there and trigger this, but anyway the point is to makes them out of that specific hex they are camping, so whatever the opponent's units are moves first to get out of there or not it won't matter.
